Had one week at Scratby hall during the school hols, sure it was busy, yep it was noisy at times, yep there were more kids running about than you could shake a stick at, the toilets and showers were busy at times but show me a site in August that is any different. Tthe toilets and showers arent the best, I mean you havent got a member of staff stood in the corner offering you a towel to dry your hands and trying to sell you aftershave (not in the blokes block at any rate) you wouldn't attempt to eat lunch off the floor in them and yes the wash up block could be a bit bigger.
That out of the way. The positives. Site shop is brilliant the best I have seen in Norfolk or anywhere else for that matter. Staff are lovely. Swimming pool is fab. Our kids loved it. Plenty of space to play footie and other holiday activities with the family and act like a big kid yourself.
The site is central to most of the local attractions, Norfolk is brilliant to explore, been going down there on and off for the last 30 years and still see something new everytime. Want advice? when you are driving around and see a sign post that says 'By Road'. Don't even think about it. Turn down it and drive. See where it takes you! one of the best ways of finding out of the way little villages, old thatched pubs to have a quick half in, and a great way of finding brill fishing holes if that is your game! Want a good day out with the kids? drive up the coast to cromer and go fishing for crabs off the pier! I mean it. Brilliant!. The parents get more competitive than the kids to see who catch the most/biggest etc.
Want another freebie that the kids will love? go to see the rock being made at Docwras rock shop in Regent Road yarmouth. Our kids loved seeing it being boiled up, rolled out, and made into sticks. Free to watch! Then go up to the market place to where the chip vans are.Docwras have their own there, look for pinnochio. Best chips on the ruddy planet! Curry sauce to die for!
Back at the camp site. At night it was so quiet! Every one is up so early that by 10pm all you could hear was people snoring in the next tent/caravan. Days are full in norfolk!. Cant wait to go there again this year. So in short. If you want it quiet in the kids hols. Look else where. One of the more distant islands off the Scottish coast perhaps?. If on the other hand you want a good affordable base in the thick of the Norfolk broads/Yarmouth. Scratby is for you! see you there!

We chose this site for our first big trip camping with our 2 young children (3 and 1) and we were delighted. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the place was very well maintained, the shop had everything you could possibly need and was certainly not overpriced (in fact the camping equipment was the same price as in Tesco which was a nice shock), the playground and pool were great and very well looked after. Despite what others have said, in my opinion, the showers were good, the womens was always clean although my husband says the mens was not always as good. Even though the site was clearly full there was never even a sniff of a queue or a wait. They even had a baby bath and jug to use which I thought was excellent. I would agree that the pitches were too close together and that the place at times did feel a bit like a car park although I think much of that was due to the insensitivity of others than the fault of the site, people could have parked next to their tents or caravans but didn't.

I stayed at Scratby for a 2nd time following my stay and review in August 2005.
This time around the site was full and felt cramped with just a foot or so between our van and the awning of the next van. People were in at all angles by the look of it, with cars, vans, trailers and even a large boat on a trailer. I don’t remember it being like that before.
It was fairly quite late on in the evening but being near the small play park was a mistake. It was locked at 9pm but this didn’t stop a group of mumbling, fumbling bigger kids hanging around by the gate until well after 11pm. Could have done with the warden moving them on.
We had some difficulties with the site hook up and the pitch tripped out multiple times, as did the adjoining pitch. I reported it on the occasions it tripped as it had to be re-set from a box in the facilities block. This was very inconvenient. I was advised my caravan had a loading issue, or my appliances were faulty, despite never having had this issue before or since. The pitch next door was told the same thing as they tripped their pitch a few times too.
The site manager / owner told me that 10amp was the pitch limit and my kettle or (standard) lights was blowing it. Most sites are 16amp for serviced pitches, so worth considering this if you have a caravan and want lights on whilst brewing up for a cuppa and definitely worth making sure you've got enough gas before you go.
I also paid for an awning on my pitch but since it was raining when I arrived and a short stay I didn't put it up and used my pop up gazebo instead, over the doorway. I was asked to remove it though as it was against site rules. The pitch the other side of me had a tent, a smaller pup tent and a dome tent with no sides (i.E. A gazebo) in the middle of the pitch (and their car was parked half on the roadway) but this was apparently OK. Odd but when I had a tent and trailer tent, I used to feel the caravanner's always got a better deal, now I'm one of these caravanner's I feel differently. Again worth noting this so you don’t fall foul of the rules, although in fairness I was offered a refund for 3 days of awning cost since I was not using anything after the gazebo came down on the first evening.
Good things about the site are location is handy for touring the area and the pool was very nice on the really hot day we were there and is well worth a visit.
Also the pitches are very neat, well kept, trimmed and drained, albeit very tightly packed in as I say.
When I last visited and submitted a review for this site I mentioned the poor showers and when I booked again I was hoping they had improved in the last 3 years and enquired about this. However, the supply pressure is still very low, there is no temp control so you scold off peak and get very cold at peak morning time which is not good for anybody but especially the kiddies.
On my last review in Aug 2005 I concluded with:
'All in all I would go back for the location and swimming pool but the showers do make me wonder whether it's worth it. On balance I'd say this is a 6/10 site but sort the showers / water supply problems and it could easily be a 9/10'.
Three years on in August 2008 and I would like to amend this conclusion and say that since the showers are no better, maybe worse and the potential electrical tripping when the site is full, combined with the fact that I've stayed in plenty of better sites since, I wouldn’t consider going back for a third time and in my mind this is a 4/10 site at best.

When we turned up at this site it looked really busy with what looked looked like rather small marked and numbered pitches. The very friendly staff at reception advised us to drive through first busy field and into the larger field and then pitch wherever we wanted.
If I was squashed into the first field I would have been gutted that just over the hedge there was plenty of room.
Very nice swimming pool, although it wasn't very well advertised that this would close on the last day of August. Resulting in a family wearing armbands and all gear waiting patiently for a pool that wasn't going to open for at least 6 months. Overall great site and great shop.

This site is very well placed and very neatly kept. Cleanliness was just about passable but not especially marvellous. I was however very disappointed with the size of the pitches. They were so small that our tent (4 man) was only a few inches away from the next door caravan, and this pattern was followed over the whole ehu area of the site. This is not only dangerous (fire hazard) but also leaves you feeling very hemmed in. The only place for cars to fit seemed to be in front of your unit, so that when sitting outside tent of an evening it felt like we were camping in a car park.
Secondly, the toilet and shower block requires a key for use. So all 4 members of my family had to share one key, which is so annoying when one is in the shower and small son wants the toilet! I felt the key system was very petty and especially irritating when you run in the rain to the loo only to find you forgot the key. These two things spoiled our trip to this site and would not return.

Stayed here for 3 nights,a really clean, well kept site, with an excellent shop, and pretty quiet at night.Surrounding area has loads to do and nothing is really more than a 15 minute drive away.A few moans though. No hot water available for dishwashing most of the time.Showers have no temperature control, but were clean and not too busy (just remember to take your key!) The worse thing was one group who continuously had to play football right outside our tent, despite being asked not to,until they finally knocked over our gas ring, which caused a lot of animosity.I think either a small area needs to be set aside for ball games,or ball games not allowed(it is just respect for other campers,in my opinion). However the site does offer very good value for the facilities offered

Having just spent 8 days here, I can honestly say the site is a credit to the owners - clean, tidy, well - kept, etc.
The grass is kept immaculately short and was in fact 'trimmed' every time someone vacated a pitch!
We were at the 'top' end of the main field which backed onto a large hedge, which kept the wind at bay very well.
Despite heavy showers overnight, the ground was so well drained it was possible to walk barefoot on the grass wihin 30 mins of the rain stopping !
Would certainly visit again

We stayed here for 6 nights. The site looks lovely when you turn up at the entrance, cut grass and well looked after.
The pitches are right next to each other with no fire break at all. A bit like sardines in a can. The grass was cut 3 times whilst we were there , looks nice but as they don't pick up the clippings, the kids brought most of them in our tt on their trainers.
There is no open play area for playing football or bat and ball games for them to run about, only in front of the tt not ideal as some balls did hit other tents. There didnt seem to ba a noise curfew on site, if there is no warden to enforce it.
Site shop is well stocked up with camping bits, food, sweets, fresh bread. (a bit pricey but aren't they all)
The toilets were nice and clean with plenty of very very hot water. The water burnt my hands when I used the hand basin. You are given a key to gain access to the toilets, This seems the place for teenagers to gather (lovely)
The site has a childrens play area which is fenced off with a gate that gets locked at 9pm.My children enjoyed it apart from my 10 year old that found it a bit babyish. The play equipment is quite simple, and there is no room to play any other games there.
The swimming pool was open most days, when the lifeguard turned up for work. The water was warm with nice grass areas to sit on. The pool itself is a bit old and could do with some money spent on it, as there is some sharp bits about to scratch yourself on.
There is plenty to see and do in the area with some nice beaches and days out. We went to bewilderwood. The place is full of tree houses and roap bridges ,slides and aerial runways. Children will love it. Once you are in no more money for rides, just old fashioned running about and climbing about. Don't wear your sunday best as they will get dirty.

We stayed for 2 weeks on this site, had a great time. The facilities on this site are great, shower / toilet blocks were well kept, plenty of hot water most of the time,t he shop here is well stocked and well priced, also a nice and clean swimming pool. My only gripe was that a lot of noise later at night from mainly young teenagers who were staying on the rally field, I feel this site could do with some night time security patrols, but other than that I would come back again in 2009.

Just spent a week here lovely flat site well laid out, very friendly quiet site even when full, well stocked shop, launderette, play area swimming pool outside. Lots of things to do in the area. Only one shower block but this wasn't a problem never had to queue the only small grip was there was only hooks in the showers a shelf would have been good. Hope to go sometime soon
