Just come back from our first stay at this site and to be honest we were really disappointed.

First the positives:

Great location (we were pitched right next to the forest and the kids loved it),

Very clean,

Extremely friendly staff.

Now the negatives:

Noisy on both sides due to railway and fast road,

No bins on site apart from main entrance,

No waste water points apart from main entrance, Inadequate toilet block in a daft position,

Absolutely no character whatsoever,

No trees! It's a forest site, where are the trees? It's as if they decided that the forest must stop on the edge of the site and that the site must be flat and featureless.

The toilet block was the worst thing. It's won Loo of the year awards so we were expecting good things but:

It is far too small for the size of the site (only 3 male loos),

It is cramped inside (uncomfortably so when washing your hands back to back with another man weeing!),

The shower floors are too flat meaning that the drying area (and your shoes) gets soaked,

There is no temp. Control on the showers,

The block is right at the entrance to a site that is basically a long rectangle (it's not far to walk really but we were pitched right at the end of the site and it's further than it needs to be - why not put it nearer the centre?

All of these are very minor gripes but the site is not cheap and, as it's so new, we had high hopes. If this was anywhere else but on the edge of a lovely forest it would have very little going fot it. As it is the forest is enough to bring us back - but not very often!

Just got back from here and had a really good trip, the wardens are really friendly and helpful, with the mention of the road and railway I wasn't expecting such a nice site, its surrounded by trees and well set out, the hardstanding pitches are really wide as there made for a caravan + awning and car, theres a good motorhome service point thats easy to drive over and fill up the water tank.

The toilets and showers were really nice and they didn't have the key code working when we were there so no problems with that.

The forest was great for cycling and walking but the track from the campsite was a bit rough for the first short bit, I decided to walk with my bike but still slipped on the mud and went head first into the bushes, but you can get round by the station so did that the next couple of days instead.

They have a plan of the forest you can buy for £2 in reception and also some other cycle rides maps that are free, there was also a booklet with all the attraction around chesire which was really good. Its worth a cycle or walk to Eddisbury farm shop, its not far and easy to get to with home made cider, liqures, jucies, preserves and a great little tea room!

It was easy to get the train to Chester, its a request stop, you just stick your arm out as the train comes into the station really slowly, and on the way back you just tell the ticket lady you want to get off at delamere and its no problem, they have the time table in reception.

We only noticed on the way out, in the village that theres a shop it looked a good size but we didn't use it this time, they sell basics at the campsite.

As this site is open all year well be going back soon!

Nice site in a nice edge of the forest setting.

First the road. We had some concerns about this. It is not that busy but vehicles to pass at high speed. The noise seemed an issue for the first couple of hours then we just didn't seem to notice it much. There was were also some planes flying over en-route to Manchester Airport but again you just notice the first few. The trains weren't a problem. Only about 1 an hour and were slow moving.

On the whole the site is flat and we were offered a choice of pitches.

Clean blocks. We didn't think the water was too hot for our 3 and 5 year olds.

Site is mainly for walkers as there isn't much in the immediate vicinity except the forest. But Chester is only a 30 minute train ride away and well worth a visit.

Would highly recommend a drive to the Anderton Boat Lift in nearby Northwich.

Our little boy had to be taken to A&E while we were here and the site staff were really helpful with directions and offering to call the hospital in advance for us.

Stayed for two nights in early September. We arrived later than planned but wardens met us quickly and told us we had the only pitch remaining.

Site has multiple mixed camping / tourer and caravan areas. Lots of EHU points and all sharing the main toilet and shower blocks. As previously mentioned keycode entry which seemed to be catching a few people out.Toilets and other facilities were spotless and the loo of the year award proudly displayed definitely seems to be valid for this site.

Barriers close at 11pm so make sure your not too late getting back.

In the surrounding area Chester surpassed our expectations and would definitely be somewhere we would go back to explore more of the historic buildings and sites they have open to the public. A very nice walk along the city wall and along the canals etc.

Would stay here again.

Nice site - ideal for walkers and cyclists. On arrival wardens were very friendly, asked us if we had any preferences and guided us to our chosen pitch.

We were concerned that there was a main road running down one side of the site and a railway line down the other but the noise was not intrusive or unbearable.

Our only criticism was having to use a key code to get into the ablutions, a nightmare for parents with young children as they couldn't reach the key code pad and also for the older generation, some had great difficulty in inputting the letters and numbers and then having to turn a knob in a short amount of time before you had to start again.

We were only based here for three nights and the weather turned against us but we would definitely visit again, probably for longer next time.

This is a lovely site. We had 3 glorious days there last week.  The  facilities are very good, plenty of points for fresh water. The site is well laid out and there are lots of EHU for tents as well as caravans.
The toilet blocks are very clean, but get very busy on a Saturday morning so you need to be up early if you don't want to queue.  The showers were a bit on the hot side, you can't adjust the temperature, also you do have to have a strong thumb to keep pressing them on all the time.
The site is set in the lovely surroundings of the forest.
Delamere forest train station is right next to the site, so it would be easily accessible by train.  The local train goes to Manchester, or Chester, and they appear to run fairly frequently.  There is a cafe right by the station, it was quite good.
One slight knock back was there is no play area for the children, but generally a very good site
The wardens were very friendly and helpful, I would  go there again

We chose this site for a weekend trip as it is only 30 minutes from our home. At the time of our visit there had been prolonged heavy rain which had left some areas of the site quite soft underfoot. The site managers seemed to apreciate our needs as tent campers and we were shown to a pitch which was on raised ground and wouldn't become waterlogged if more rain fell. We found all of the site staff to be friendly and helpful.

The site toilet and shower facilities were of a very high standard and kept spotlessly clean. The amenity building also had a covered washing up area, chemical disposal and a laundry.

The reception area also acted as a small shop but opening hours were fairly limited.

The campsite itself is right on the edge of Delamere Forest and is surrounded by trees. At the moment the site is quite open; trees have been planted to provide screening between rows of pitches but these will take some years to mature. The site buidlings are all finished in timber and blend in well with the forest setting.

I noticed that large areas of the site are equiped with EHU which is great but I can see that at busy times it may be difficult to get a non EHU pitch.

The site does have a main road running past which although isn't busy at night the traffic that does use it is travelling at speed so it could be a little bit intrusive.

There's lots to do in the local area. The site leads straight into Delamere Forest which has a visitors centre, walking and bike trails, bike hire and the 'Go Ape' experience.

The station adjacent to the campsite has a decent cafe and you can take the train into nearby Chester.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this site.

The site has only been opened a short while so was naturally clean & new !

Welcoming wardens , small shop in reception for those essentials.

Toilet block (only one block - but the site itself isn't massive so will probably suffice) entrance via code number (which our 7 year old couldn't reach) cleaned daily and showers have nice hot water (although isn't adjustable so may be too hot for youngsters) -- Two usual gripes nowhere to put your clothes and those pesky buttons that give you 5 seconds of water before it turns itself off !

If you are one that is solely after peace and quiet - then be warned the site is bang next to a road (albeit not too busy) and one side of the field is next to the train station (trains run from about 7.30 am to about 10.30pm) although I do have to say that you can only really hear them when they are setting off from the station.

No kids play area was a little disappointing for a new site as they could have easily put a simple 'something' on the site when they were building it.

Lots of fresh water points and 16 amp EHU all within easy reach.

Several gateways from the site lead you directly in to the forest - 'Go-ape'  (tree top rope ladder / rope slide type place) is only a couple of minutes walk away (age 10+) and if you have two wheels -  loads of bike ride routes and if not bike hire is available locally .

Cheshire Ice cream farm & candle workshop several miles away are worth a visit.

All in all a nice little site that no doubt will flourish as time goes by.
