Spent one night here whilst visiting family in the area. It's next to a busy B road but fairly quiet traffic sound wise at night. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming wardens gave a good feel to the site. Pitch (on hardstanding) was level but as it had been raining rather a lot it was a bit muddy underfoot.
Toilets and shower blocks clean and plentiful. Pot wash also very clean and warm. The site is 250 mtrs walk (no footpath) to a train station, we didn't hear the trains but we walked to the cafe at the station which sells a good variety of cakes, snacks, ice creams and meals - a nice distraction on a rainy day. The forest looked very appealing for exploring/walking so we'll come back to this very nice and welcoming site to sample the forest in the future and maybe take a train to Chester or Manchester.

We have just returned from an 8 night stay here. A great site in a great location. The forest can be accessed direct from the site on foot and on bike. I would recommend a walk or cycle from the site via the lake to the visitors centre at the centre of the forest. We have a 3 year old who loved the location too, the walks and cycling. The Gruffalo walk was excellent and just long enough for the little one to manage. I would recommend The Vale Royal Abbey Arms (turn right out of the campsite about 2 miles down the road) food was excellent and reasonable price, will be lovely to sit outside in the better weather.
The site itself was great, kept very tidy, staff very helpful and friendly. Happy to let the kids play ball games on the field as it was empty of tents etc. Lots of wildlife to watch from the caravan. For us the only downside was the closeness to the road which is well used and fast moving, Delamere station is located just behind the site, this is great for anyone wanted to explore further afield as trains run to Manchester and Chester, however the downside to this was the noise of the trains into the early hours. Neither of these would put us off returning as the location is excellent but we would be conscious of the pitch we would select if given an option next time.

I camped here for just the one night and found it to be the cleanest campsite that I have stayed at. The reception seemed to stock the essentials and the campsite was well laid out. I intend to revisit the area for longer sometime and this is the site I will choose.

We stayed here for a long weekend in July with some friends (a couple of other families and their kids ages ranging from 9 to 1 years)
Very warm welcome from the staff and they did their best to accommodate us all in the same space, away from other campers so that we could set up all together and the kids had a play area in the middle of the 4 tents.
Very clean toilets and showers and the site was relatively quiet even though it seemed fairly busy.
On edge of the forest although we drive to one of the car parks for the walks - mainly because of the small children but it is walkable. We followed the Gruffalo trail with the children which went down very well, good paths to follow and pushchair/wheelchair friendly for the most part.
Fish chips ever from van on Friday evenings from 5 till 7 - although we didn't partake in this a lot of people did and it smelled lovely!

Been to Delamere a few times Bank Holiday is a no no in future, lots of midges, lots of Big footballs being bounced on the pathways for ages, we went out in the end to get some peace. Though no one is supposed to play ball games. Water in showers red hot and you cant regulate. Couldn't wait to get home to have a shower. Lots and lots of children everywhere running in between caravans screaming and lots of barking dogs. Then someone on a Karaoke machine singing full blast until after twelve o clock. I have Grandchildren so I know what noise is but it was just Madness. Told some adults off playing football banged into our car then my leg, it was a hard ball as well. Oh well you learn by your mistakes.

Just spent 4 nights here over the Easter Weekend,
Site is quiet despite being full and facilities coped. The site reception sells a few essentials, but you really need to come fully stocked or be prepared to drive to a shop, or possibly get the train.
Toilet facilities were ok although the push button showers very frustrating
There is a train station within 10 mins walk of site with a reasonable service to Chester or Manchester.
Delamere forest is lovely with great routes for cycling or dog walking and a Park run every Saturday. Other than that there is not much for children of any age.
Basically a typical c&cc site. Always come away feeling somewhat shortchanged.

Visited this site during the February half term holiday for 5 days.
We aimed to get to the site just after 12, but realised when we arrived and saw signs saying no arrivals before 1pm we may have to wait. However after speaking to the friendly wardens they were sympathetic and let us set up.
Our pitch was a good size, and importantly it was level side to side. There was plenty of room for the car, caravan and awning to be arranged side by side. One minor gripe about the pitch is that was made of what looked like loose road stone, and as such the pegs for my awning came out very easily.
On site facilities are good. The toilets are accessed by a locked coded door. They are clean and tidy. Showers are of the annoying push button variety and the cubicles are a bit small.
The on site shop sells the basics, and important for us at the time, they sell propane gas!
It would be nice if there was a kids play park on site, t would also be good to have a barrier on the entrance and exit t improve security.
Site locations was very good, right next to some amazing walks into Delamere forest. Half an hours drive away is Chester to the west and Northwich to the east.

Warm welcome. Clean toilets and showers. Some pitches prone to water lying during heavy rain. Most pitches level. Quiet site. On edge of expansive forest with walks. Good paths to follow. The best fish and chips ever from van on Friday evening 5-7. Not to be missed.

We stayed here last September and returned this year as we like the area and site.
Typical C&CC site with good clean facilities as you would expect. Site not full even though it was a gloriously sunny weekend in September. Never had to wait to use any of the facilities and they were all kept clean.
We had a choice of pitch and were very happy with the one we picked. Wardens friendly and helpful and let us stay a bit later on the Sunday. We arrived in time for the Friday night chip van which was a result as far as our son was concerned:)
Spent the day in Chester went on the train which is by far the easiest option. Lots to do and we will go back as there is still much we haven't seen.
Went for a walk in the forest which is conveniently placed.
Great site we will be back

A three night stay without any problems. This was our second stay this year. A well laid out site with very helpful staff. An ideal spot for cyclists, bird watchers and if you fancy a trip to Chester is a 15 minute easy trip.
Only one slight criticism. The shower cubicle design is poor as it allows water to cover all of the cubicle floor.
