Having had problems with our towing vehicle prior to out holiday we had to resort to camping, something we hadn't done for several years. We were at the last minute trying to book a camping pitch (having previously organised everything for a caravan holiday). Silversands were able to accommodate. Our pitch wasn't great, the ground being rather unlevel and initially we were disappointed with the size, not really big enough for a 4 man tent. Our views however made up for our initial disappointments - the area is fantastic and the site is right on the edge of a lovely beach, perfect place to start the day, breakfast on the rocks. Sea beautifully clear and shallow in lagoons, great for kayaking, wished we'd packed the dinghy. The toilet block was basic but kept clean. Two showers available -cost £1. 00 but lasts ages, long enough to wash and condition long hair + shower. We were travelling to Skye so this was just a stop over for a few days prior to sail from Mallaig (Port 10 minutes away). Never saw owners after arrival day so can't comment, accept they did try to locate a different pitch for us. A lot seem to stay just for a couple of days I would definitely visit again but next time stay longer and probably not in midge season - though they didn't trouble us too much.

Stayed here for 2 nights with the family and kids. The site is 90% great. Tent pitching over looking the water. Toilet and showers clean. If you need toilet through the night take a light. As I think from our stay campsite lights were off. John and his partner. Very friendly and helpful. This is a fantastic site with 100% views. I will be back again

Just back from a fabulous bank holiday weekend at this gem of a site. The weather was perfect - warm sun and clear blue skies. My neighbour was booked in as well and John managed to get us adjacent pitches right on the beach front where we could watch the wee ones still playing well after 10:30 because of the late evenings at this time of year.
The sand looks a bright white colour until you look closely and you can see the silver grains in it - hence the name I suppose.
John and Karen are so accommodating, and our weekend was complete when we took the kids to see the Jacobite steam train arriving in Mallaig.
Thanks, John - we'll be back.

As a family we have been visiting this site for 28 years and my in laws for 25 years before that. This site is a family run site, which was it appeal. My mother was the person that helped open the small bridge on the way to silver sands.
Cathy and her chidren have always welcomed us year after year they have watch my husband grow up and then my children and now my grand children. This is a safe and welcome site, beautiful location, it has changed but never lost the friendly welcoming. I remember one of my first visits when there was still livestock on the site.
It is well worth a visit for the location, (rain or Shine) walking swimming, small town, touring, island hoping, further adventure north or a quiet rest from your busy working life re charge your batteries it is well worth it Miss you Cathy. Good Luck John and Karen continue your mams legacy Bev

We spent two glorious days on this site on our way to Skye, if you want a spotless organised site with all mod cons, this is not the site for you, but if you want peace, friendly people, glorious views, silver sands, turquoise seas, good hot showers and clean toilet facilities then this is the site for you. We were very lucky the weather was perfect, even for a paddle in the sea with the dogs, and John the owner is so laid back, just find a pitch, you will need levellers for some, then he will come for payment when he has time. So different to some sites were you pay before even getting onto a pitch. We will definitely be back next year, even have a favourite pitch we would try to get if available.

We have just spent a lovely 2 weeks on this site with our tourer. There was more than enough room for our awning also. The weather was not great but the people we met and 'John' the owner made it a fantastic holiday. Everyone was very friendly and the thing that surprised me the most is that everyone helped each other out. We had storm force winds which caused us to take our awning down for a couple of days and a poor man lost his tent however, everyone around was there to help. We were overlooking the beach and within a few steps you were standing on white sands, which meant it was great for swimming, kayaking etc. The toilets are basic but kept immaculate and it was £1 for a shower, which gave you 10 mins, which is more than enough time. There is also a family shower room, which helps if you have youngsters. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer, which was a godsend on the wet days. There is a local butchers van which comes on a Tuesday and Friday and if you are there on any one of these days, then I would strongly recommend the steak pies. I have even brought some home to put in the freezer. I would strongly recommend this site as the people, location and views are fantastic. I will certainly be returning next year!

Had a 10 night stay here and we were really sorry to be leaving. The view and sunsets are stunning. This is a beautiful site in a beautiful part of our country and we will be returning. The toilets and kitchen area were kept clean an tidy. We cannot thank John Karen and Ronan enough for all their help and smiling faces regardless of the weather. But a special thank you to Ronan for showing Gus how to catch fish.

Wow, what a lovely place Silversands is, Location wise it doesn't get much better than this with all pitches directly overlooking the white sandy beaches and turquoise waters ! Ok some of the grass pitches are a little uneven but that's a small price to pay for such a great place ! The toilet and shower facilities are a little dated but were kept immaculately clean (showers cost £1 and seemed to run for ever) The site is reached by a single track road with passing places - no problem for our large motorhome, there's a well stocked shop in the village about 3 miles, The owner John is a really nice, laid back guy, when we booked we were told just to turn up, find a nice pitch and enjoy as he'd be around sometime tomorrow for the money, as the site is only 7 miles from Mallaig its a great stop over if your en route to Skye ! Well recommended !

Just back from a 3 day stay here have to say its gorgeous, white sands clear blue seas and a perfect pitch looking on to it. £20 a night site fees which include s electric is very reasonable for 2 adults and 2 kids in a large tent. Showers cost £1, local shop 3 miles away stocks almost everything you'll need or its a short drive to mallaig.

Beautiful rocky coves, white sands and views to Skye. Perfect for kayaks. There's just a notice that says you're welcome if you can find a spot and they collect the money in the morning. So there were little tents scattered all over, it's well worth having a good hunt for a place amongst the rocks etc. We got parked right by our own tiny beach. Toilets are a bit basic but that suits me.
Ferry to Skye from Mallaig is just up the road and there are good places to eat there.
