I always look at reviews but never do them myself, which is wrong. We have been here 3 times now all this year, so that says something, it is a bit disorganised in layout but what is wrong with that at times, the toilets etc are a bit tired but that is all, but what matters is that it is a cracking site in a stunning location with a good pub nearby, the owners have plans to do quite a few upgrades and are hoping to be open for 11 months a year, Rome was not built in a day. The owners have always been very helpful to us and very friendly and it looks like things will get a lot better which makes it hard to give it full marks but I still do, as a package it really does take some beating and it always has a great atmosphere. Going back again before they close for the season.

Lovely site, very welcoming owners, regular/ongoing maintenance observed to keep site tip top. Toilets and showers were good and kept clean. Site close to beach approximately 10 minutes walk, rather steep incline to the beach but plenty of benches for stopping off for a rest. There is a local pub which serves nice food and is not too pricy.

This campsite is in a lovely location adjacent to the Cleveland Way and with a good bus service to Whitby just outside the entrance. The toilets and showers are clean but inadequate when the site is busy. Solo campers should note there is a surcharge on single occupancy pitches which makes it quite expensive.

We visited this site with a group of friends at the end of August 2014. We all had a great time.
The site is well placed for the beach (its a very steep hill down to the bay but its worth it!), There's a small café serving sandwiches, drinks, cakes and ice cream too.
The site also leads onto the Cleveland Way (think that's what its called) on which we walked to Whitby. It takes a good couple of hours and the first stretch is hard going but its a lovely walk in nice weather!
The site itself is nice but the toilet/shower facilities let it down a bit. There's only 2 each for men and women (there is also a family room). Due to proximity of the beach the showers were regularly clogged up with sand and often unusable but they were relatively clean. Could do with sprucing up a bit and maybe add another block for the size of the site.
There's no playground but our boys thoroughly enjoyed playing in amongst the trees or on the beach!
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would probably go back.

Lovely peaceful site, wardens are very friendly with loads of info on the area.
Stayed here with a couple of couples and we were blessed with fantastic views of the bay.
Recommend the pub down in the village on the cove and the one above, on the huge hill, both have breathtaking views!
Showers and toilets are clean, site tidy and there's a site shop which sells milk, bacon and eggs. (Handy)
Overall lovely site, which we will be using again!

Hello all
Just had a few days in Brunswick Bay North Yorkshire.
Fantastic sea views with dog friendly pubs that do excellent pub food.
Unfortunately Cant say the same for the Brunswick Bay Campsite, the manager was quiet happy to let children and adults play cricket and football around my campervan hitting my van at times. Told them to go away several times but in the end gave up and complained to the manager who paid lip service to me, but when push came to shove he wasn't interested and told us to go to a quieter site.
His websites states 'At Runswick Bay Caravan & Camping Park you are assured of a warm welcome and a peaceful and relaxing break away from the stress of city life'.
Should have separate play area for ball games etc. We could hear parents adults telling their children to play away from their own vehicles.
Disgraceful attitude Disgraceful site Manager who was happy to take my money but has no duty of care for my property whilst on his site.

Lovely site. Very close to the beach which is stunning but has quite a steep walk up and down. Take the car! But the car parks can fill quickly.
The pub adjacent to the site was a welcome sight after our first trek back up from the beach on a very hot day!
The site is well maintained and the grass is kept short and is collected and not left strewn all over the camping fields, which means less cuttings getting constantly dragged underfoot into your tent!
There were only a couple of showers but the water was hot and they're free (which they should be on any site where you are already paying to stay). Toilets/showers were clean.
We were pitched on the top field which we thought was the best spot as tents could only pitch around the perimeter and pitches are well spaced. I hate nothing worse when tents are nearly on top of each other so loved the top camping field. It was also ideal for children to play in the centre.
I didn't use the shop on site so can't comment on that.
The nearest supermarket is a Co-op a couple of miles down the road. Best to take the car etc if you have a few items to purchase.
The nearest small village isn't too far away with a pub or two. (Didn't use them so can't comment).
There's a fish and chip shop located there, smelt lovely and seemed busy when it was open.
Ideal spot to have a drive into Whitby etc
Would definitely return to this site.

We have just come back from a 5 day break at Runswick. It is a very large well laid out site. There were three areas for camping and there was a mix of tents, caravans and trailer tents on all three areas. One of the areas had no hook up. The toilet block was clean but small for such a large site. They were cleaned twice a day but only from chest down as the ceiling fans could have had a going over. It does look like they are renewing all of the facilities as the wash up area was lovely but still had to be tiled. There is a freezer for ice blocks and a washing machine and tumble dryer. A large wet room for disabled. The bins on the pitches were emptied daily but the main bins were over flowing. The grounds were beautifully kept. Set in a wooded area with lots of trees and grass. The owners are very welcoming and made you relaxed from booking to arrival and during your stay. Make sure you bring provisions though as the shop only sells basic, bacon, eggs and milk. The nearest shop after that is about 2 miles away. There is an oval pitch on which you are on the outside edge leaving a very large centrepiece of grass for children to play safely. However this does get very noisy but curfew is at 11 o'clock and everyone abides by it. There is a dog friendly pub on 5 minute walk and the beach is only about a 10 minute walk down a very steep hill. We absolutely loved it here and will go back(out of school holidays though)

This campsite is in a good location for walking to Runswick Bay and access to the coastal footpath. The pitches were all grass but not really clearly marked boundaries for pitching.
Taps were close to our 'van but no drains so it was a walk to the toilet block every time with the grey water.
The toilet block, although clean, was pretty shabby. The showers, only 2 in the mens, were very small. Washing up area was ok. My wife wouldn't use the block, using the shower and toilet on the van. For the pricing the block should be a far higher quality.

We have just returned from a 6 night stay at Runswick Bay Caravan Park. This is the first time we have stayed there and will not be staying again. The site is large in size, but it is all mixed up, there is no semblance of order, some of the hard standing pitches are along the side of the path into the site, the tents were just put up anywhere. It is not very well organised. We were shown our pitch on arrival an that was it, no welcome or anyone to ask if everything was OK. The only words spoken to us were when we were leaving and we were asked if we had enjoyed our stay. The ONLY toilet block on the whole site consists of 3 toilets and 2 showers for the ladies and 3 toilets, two showers and 2 stones for the men, there needs to be at least 2 toilet blocks with at least 6 toilets in each and 6 showers, for the large amount of people camping in tents, with no wash facilities of their own. There is no specified children's play area and children are running around the caravans and cars, which could cause damage.
