Just visited this fantastic site for one night whilst backpacking with my son. The bloke who checked us in was friendly and very helpful. The site has a nice family friendly feel and all the amenities are kept clean and well cared for.
The location is fantastic, its a short but steep walk from the beach and its on a good bus route too. There is loads of walking from the site if that's your thing.
Its quite a big site with a well sheltered non-electric area and a similar sized area for EHU. As far as I could see there are only two female showers for the whole site and I can imagine this causing queues in peak time. Just looking at the website its probably on the higher end of what I would pay for a family camping trip so that might put me off a little but the site itself is great.

Great site in a fabulous location, walking distance to the pub! The owners go out of their way to help and even though they were fully booked on one of the busiest and hottest weekends, they still managed to squeeze us in! Was our first real camping adventure in our new tent, and what a great way to start! Will definitely return again! Onsite showers and utility room for washing up or clothes washing with machines. The office also sells milk, so no need to walk to the local post office village/ shop like I did, (1 mile away in Hinderwell) to find they wouldn't serve me with the dog! Location close to bay and only 8 miles from Whitby. So looking forward to a return visit!

Just got back from Runswick Bay today, and got to say we absolutely loved it.
The site is very dog friendly which suited our Lab Retriever, who was shattered at the end of each day. A rare sight indeed.
The campsite was very clean, the owners made us feel really welcome and it was great value for money.
We will certainly be visiting again in the near future, and we thoroughly recommend you do too.

We have just returned from a fabulous 2 days at Runswick Bay.
We arrived in the early evening and we were warmly greeted by the staff at reception.
We are family of 2 adults, 2 kids (10, 7) and a dog.
Our pitch was spacious and had electric hookup. The grassed areas were very well maintained and the campsite was absolutely spotless. Our pitch was opposite the toilet facilities so we didn't have to run far during the night :-))
Even though the site was busy there was still loads of room for the kids to play and have fun.
The wash up area had 3 sink with absolutely piping hot water and great water pressure. The toilet/shower block was basic but did the job just fine. There was quite often grass cuttings on the floor but this was cleaned frequently (and not surprising that it was there as the grass was freshly mown!) Not a problem at all.
The site is in a great location for walking - we walked to Staithes (3. 5 miles away) and fossil hunted with the children and sampled some great ale at the Cod and Lobster.
All in all it was a super weekend. The only downside was the site was pricey (£33 per night). Still, it's not enough to put us off going back).

I took my wife on her first camping trip here and she loved it. The site was great, small but for what we were looking for had everything.
The showers, although small were powerful and well maintained. The toilets were well stocked and cleaned regularly.
The staff on the sight were very friendly and approachable, nothing was a chore for them as they were always willing to help.
There is some great scenery in the surrounding area, with Runswick Bay beach only a short walk away and a pub at the top of the hill for a pint after walking back up it.
All in all we had a great two night stay and are looking to go back as soon as possible, and this time take our dog too as everywhere is dog friendly.

We booked at Runswick Bay for 3 nights. Unfortunately the weather for 2 days was horrific! However, the campsite itself and the owners really were brilliant.
They couldn't do enough for us - even when it involved an issue with my van not starting (and the owner drove me to the local garage!) They were constantly cleaning the toilets and trying to keep on top of what was some really bad weather (dense fog and torrential rain!).
They were really friendly and welcoming and this really did make a huge difference to our stay.
Runswick Bay beach is a short walk away (just be prepared for the steep walk down to it), and when the weather is ok, it's gorgeous!
We really cannot recommend this campsite enough - we will definitely be visiting here again!

Brilliant friendly site. The owners are lovely & very friendly. The site is very dog friendly. Very good location to beach. If you like to walking some nice coast walks.
Site is lovely and clean only thing that lets it down is the shower block which is small but clean.
Children loved it even though it didn't have a play park lots of room to play football etc
We Will be back very soon before the summer ends x

Booking accepted by phone (we were late deciding to get away for the summer half term) and the site owner was very accommodating when we asked for EHU and none was available. Arrangements were made for us to hook up for an hour or so to charge up the battery when needed. When we arrived we were given a pitch with EHU after all. Bonus!
The site facilities are good - a very clean toilet block, with 3 loos and 2 showers (in the ladies, at least) but I did think they were rather stretched over a busy holiday week. A laundry room, although we did not use it, would be useful for longer stays. This is a well looked after site and the warden was to be seen busying himself at all hours of the day, dealing with arrivals and the daily management of the site.
The site is in an ideal position for walking the Cleveland Way, both North and South. A pub (The Runswick Bay Hotel) is accessed via a field path, and worth visiting in the evening or during inclement weather -it sells a range of bar food as well as selected beers. Good hospitality was received.
The village is compact and easily accessed from the campsite via a meandering pathway down from Cliffemount Hotel, which is just down the road from the Cleveland Way path markers, outside of the Runswick Bay Hotel. This brought us out onto the warren of tiny paths between the hillside cottages - most of which would appear to be holiday lets.
The campsite is in a lovely position and although rather isolated, that is exactly its appeal. A twice an hour bus service runs between Whitby and Loftus and we happily caught the bus (at the stop on the main road, just a few minutes walk away from the campsite) to Sandsend, where we walked the beach to Whitby before partaking of the views up at the Abbey, visiting the olde-worlde shops in the old town etc.
We would return to the site again and cannot fault the management of the site by the wardens. The only let down was the rain and fog which we experienced on 2 days - neither of which were under the control of the campsite owners, of course.
A little gem!

We stayed here for 3 nights over the last May bank holiday. We had a lovely time and would return.
The staff were very welcoming, especially when we realised our EHU was a long way from our pitch - they soon provided us with an extension.
Our pitch was flat and large. We couldn't see the sea from the site - which we thought from the site's website we would be able to, but it is a fairly large site so perhaps that's why - maybe you can from another part.
The site was fully booked and was busy although there was still space around you it was fairly noisy. That being said the rules say quiet after 11 and this was mostly adhered to - perhaps midnight ish but we had beautiful weather and I think people were just enjoying being outside.
The toilet block was clean and lovely and warm, even on the first night when it was freezing. There are only 2, small showers so it was a little tricky getting dry and changed. The water was piping hot. We saw queues a lot but somehow timed it right so we didn't have to queue.
There are also only 3 toilets and we did have to queue for these at busy periods. I think the main thing that would help (apart from more showers and toilets) would be to add some more sinks. People were trying to wash their hands, brush their teeth and have a wash all in the same 3 sinks which became a bit hectic.
The site provides free wifi which was fab.
The washing up facilities are good and there was a freezer in there too for ice packs. There seemed to be a washing machine too but we didn't use it.
The site itself was immaculate, bins, recycling and water stations very close to all areas of the site. Lovely tree lined paths and grass cut short.
There is a pub a few minutes away (Runswick Arms Hotel) which was nice - seems to be in the middle of being refurbished. Had a limited menu but looked tasty. The beach is only a 5 mins walk down the hill and depending on how fit you are the same back ! (It's very steep)
Whitby, Robins Hood Bay and the moors are only a few miles away.
A fantastic stay and we'll return again.

We are a family group of 7 with two tents and 1 dog, we were pitched together on great plots C and D. The owners have taken over the running of this site and are continuing improving and rebuilding this site. They are friendly and helpful and keep the site clean and in good condition. We were here for spring bank weekend and the site was chocka, its is very child and dog friendly with a great dog walk on the cliff tops. Runswick itself is also very dog friendly and the beach is beautiful and also well kept. Runswick is unspoilt by tourism and is not for people who want constant entertainment, we absolutely loved both the site and the bay. There are a few nice pubs that do food but we mainly cooked on site as the weather was good. Also there is a bus stop close to site and it only takes around 20-30mins to whitby which we did but actually preferred our day down at runswick bay beach. All in all I would recommend both the site and Runswick and we cant wait to go back next summer. The only thing that some people may find useful is an on site shop but we didn't need this as we always take too much.
