There had been a lot of rain before we visited and lots of pitches were out of action through flooding, Staff were working hard to put things right. The site is located in an old quarry with high sides all around and is very peaceful. The site is also quite remote if you need transport to get around. Buxton site was due to be refurbished soon after we left. It needed it because the toilets and showers block badly needed upgrading. TV reception is non existent here. Having said all that we enjoyed our stay here. Fortunately we had a car at our disposal so getting around was easy. The peak district scenery is stunning with lots of places to visit and on a clear day you can see for 30 miles easily. Buxton is worth a visit and has a fantastic gardens in the center and a very well known tea shop which was great for afternoon tea's.

Standard CC facilities, very clean and pleasant wardens. Pitches are of an ample size and largely very level and free draining.
The only 'issues' there are is it is in an old quarry so mobile phone signal is largely non existent and TV is very patchy although there are TV pints on the EHU points. There was an issue of the electricity feed to the TV boosters failing at around 9pm each night, this was apparently due to the amount of people using kettles/TVs/heating which was slightly annoying.

Had to stop somewhere as we were running out of time, light and patience. Pity this site matches all the other caravan club sites we have stayed at or seen. All brand new motorhomes or caravans, and some people look down their noses at an 'older 'van. Having said that it was spotless, the toilet block was clean, tidy and warm, , an even had separate cubicles to wash in. We thought £30 for one night was very expensive. ( non members fee ). As it was packed, some people must like that sort of site,

The site is comparably with other CC sites and has no obvious faults.
The Caravan Club web page indicated the site was full but we booked by phone and there were ample pitches available.
Papers ordered on each of the three days of our visit.
Plenty of dog walking off-site among the woods to Pooles Cavern and Buxton and also the paths to Solomon Temple.
We returned home considerably fitter than when we arrived, everywhere is uphill on the way out or way back to the site, and those of limited mobility or pushchair users would struggle to walk far from the site.
There appears to be no mobile phone coverage on site but a land line phone is available.
There was heavy rain one night but the site drained well and pools/puddles were minimal.

Unusual site with the one facilities block around centre so if you are pitched on the extremities its a bit of a walk, clean but dated shower/toilet block but the dishwashing facility is undercover. On arrival was told to reverse onto pitch even thought the CC Magazine say that this 'rule' has been abolished, also on noticeboard outside it says to order paper before 4:30 but when we asked for a paper they said it was a weekend service only, so your only option is a walk back to a petrol station on the main road about a 30 min roundtrip. As said previously TV reception is very poor, even with a booster. No dog walk on site but plenty of areas outside the entrance through the countrypark carpark on way to woods, seems locals come here to let their dogs off as its a semi-enclosed area. Nice walk through the woods into Buxton all uphill on way back but no problem if you are generally fit, not good for prams or pushchairs though

A site set in a disused quarry just on the outskirts of Buxton. The site itself is longer than its width but there are several different little areas which breaks it up. The vast majority of the pitches are now hard standing with a few grass ones for tenters and non awning(ers). There is just the 1 sanitary block, maintained to the usual high standards but the water pressure in the showers is not great. Disabled facs are available. Dishwashing area is covered and there are laundry facs. The usual CC rules apply so if you are averse to them then find somewhere else. Wifi is supposed to be up and running but we found it c**p, and you need a booster for the Tv. Not really a site for kids but they can expend some energy on the hill just above the site.
The area is quiet, apart from fly overs from planes on the way to land at Manchester. Plenty of dog walking opportunities just off site and the walk to Buxton isn't that bad or far if you have a decent level of fitness, uphill on the return though (taxi about £5). Good shopping in Buxton and the Peak District is fantastic for walking and sight seeing. The CC office provide basics and newspapers can be ordered.

Very pleasant site, quiet, spacious and well laid out. Facilities were a little dated but spotless and the wardens friendly but it still suffers from the normal Caravan Club regulations in which everything has to be in exactly the right place and you really need a car or taxi ride to get into Buxton itself unless you're prepared for a hike along some very steep woodland trails.
Will also mention that you won't get a TV signal unless you have a aerial booster cable or a big dish on account of the steep cliffs which surround the site.

Just had a fantastic week at Grin Low. We arrived on the B/H Monday, it looked busy with other people arriving and leaving too yet never felt 'busy'.
You choose your pitch then let them know, so we pitched near one of the the water / waste points, but you wouldn't even know you were next to it.
The toilet block, I could rave about. Spotless, cleaned every morning and warm. The showers were fantastic, from cool to really really hot, and NO button to hold the shower on!
They had a proper on/off lever with a separate temperature controller.
The location with being in a disused quarry, made it really sheltered from any wind. OK, so it rained every day in some way with drizzle, mizzle and fog included, it didn't bother us.
The pitches were big enough to take your caravan, awning and in our case a large 4x4 and still have space to spare.
We use a portable satellite system for the TV, so we never tried the normal ariel and so can't say how that performed.
We had no phone signal on the site in the quarry (3 network), so we paid for a weeks CC wifi so we could work her smart phone, but at £10 for the week, we found that a bit steep as it's £25 for a YEAR with them!
It's an excellent place to either stay and relax, or in our case use as a base to explore the Peak District, which is what we did.
Not badly priced I would say considering some sites dictate a minimum of so many nights around bank holiday time, and at an inflated rate.
So all in all, would we go back?? Without a doubt, YES.

A very unusual site set in a disused quarry in the middle of a country park. Sheep wander around the country park with their latest off springs. There are many dog walks around the park and also walks into the town of Buxton where Morrisons, Waitrose and Aldi can be found as well as many other interesting shops.
Toilets and showers beginning to show their age but kept spotless by wardens who were all very helpful and friendly.
There was a resident Pheasant on site who seemed to patrol the area a couple of times a day quite unfazed by people wandering about. Plenty of well known places to visit from this site including Derwent Water and dams where the Dam Busters practised.
Overall a very nice site with plenty to do in surrounding areas.

Visited this campsite for the first time mid april stayed for three nights mid week, campsite quite narrow and long and situated in a old limestone quarry but that description doesn't really do it justice because what a peaceful picturesque oasis this site is, pitches very spacious and facility's usual caravan club high standard we have all come to expect, and surrounding countryside beautiful.
