Turned left into the road as the sat nav said and thought to ourselves -'Hmmmm - this must be the wrong way - how on earth are we going to turn round on this narrow road?'.Sat nav was right, it just looked wrong; too rural and wild. As we neared the entrance, we could see part of the site stretched out below us. It looked wonderful as it was set amongst trees and bushes at the bottom of a disused quarry with lots of 'hilly' bits. Approach road had cattle grids to keep sheep out of the site - or was it to keep the kids in! Play area was great (nice size and plenty of interesting things for kids to play on). Loos and showers are typical caravan club, as in superb. There is even a drying room for your coats etc. Which we thought was a super idea. We chose to stay for our 5 night stop at the far end of the site. It was quite a long way from the only toilet block, which was a mixed blessing. Very few campers walked past our pitch, meaning it was very quiet and relaxing, but when nature called it was quite a hike to the loos but then its fair to say you cannot have it all! The view of the cliffs from our pitch was fabulous. We used our freesat for tv and had no problems getting a perfect picture on the tv but we could not get a decent signal through the caravan aerial on either analogue or digital. The booster system provided by the caravan club worked well though, and the shop sells the long cable you will need if you do not already have one. The shop also sells the usual gas / toilet chemicals / essential groceries / newspapers etc. We found the peak district was full of interesting days out and we ran out of time before we ran out of things to do! Of particular note were the town of Buxton, Bolsover castle, Pevril castle, the numerous caverns and Chatsworth house and estate (although this was a little expensive in our opinion). In conclusion, if you want to stay on a caravan club site with character, peace and tranquillity, plenty of wildlife and a kiddies play area then look no further! And to put icing on the cake, the wardens are really helpful and friendly too!

This is a very nice site set in an old Quarry, also surrounded by a country park with some nice walks into Buxton, shops & pub a short distance away by car or a long walk, better to take both with you or drive into Buxton,
The site has one main toilet block but this was very clean & tidy @ all times the site was nicely laid out with a kids play area & some pitches with hedges on both sides making them nice & private, friendly staff on hand, one main criticism was all large pitches were hard standing, could do with some grass ones for those who like this option.

This lovely site near Buxton is well worth a visit. It is very well hidden in an old quarry and remarkably quiet. The toilet block and associated facilities were all as you would expect from a CC site. We took little notice of and pitched well away from the children's play area but it looked pretty much as you'd expect. The site team were very friendly and helpful. A Fish and Chip van calls on Saturday night and I can highly recommend them. Very good indeed. The dog walking area was excellent and the walk up to Solomon's Temple is well worth it for the views. Buxton has a Morrison's and Waitrose. Can recommend Buxton tandoori, if you fancy an Indian takeaway one night. There is a Karting track very nearby - 20 laps for a tenner. The site is an ideal and central base for exploring the Peak District and I would recommend it without hesitation.

The site was in a good location, well placed to tour the Peak District. Shower block looking a bit tired, and not that many showers either, but if you picked the right time there were no queues. The Caravan Club should spend some money here to bring it up to scratch. The pitches could have been a bit more private, more hedges would be an improvement. All the wardens were very good, cheerful and helpful.

Spent two nights here and, all in all, was very pleased with it. Facilities on site were of a very high standard and staff were helpful and friendly. Fees were roughly £17 per night.
Within easy walking distance is the Buxton Country Park (adjacent to the site), containing GoApe, Solomon's Temple and Poole's Cavern. The walk into Buxton took about twenty minutes - the walk back is steep.
Buxton is well worth visiting. The town centre offers excellent shopping, eating and drinking, as well as the imprssive pavillion and gardens.

The wardens at this site are very friendly and helpful and are a credit to the Caravan Club.
The site itself is set in a quarry surrounded by fields and sheep. Very peaceful setting for a quiet break. We noticed a small play area for children with a picnic area alongside which was a nice touch. The facilities are adequate but kept very clean. Pitches are quite small and the roads are narrow on site. Just be patient and wait for other campers to hitch up.
Buxton has plenty of supermarkets so no need to take lots of provisions. Only 1/2 miles in the car with easy access to car parks.
A visit to Tittesworth Reservoir with its large play area for children and nice 4.9 mile moderate walk for adults is recommended. As is a trip to Bakewell for one of its tarts and scrummy items from its many delis.

Really interesting site - set in an old quarry. It's very rugged and the rock face is quite dramatic along one side.
The pitches were big and flat and are hardstanding with EHU.
Showers etc. Good - usual CC standard.
Lovely walks around here directly out of the site up to the folly through the fields.
Buxton is a nice town - they often have a food festival selling all kinds of delicious things to try!
We couldn't get freeview to work here - others seemed to have Sky dishes, so that probably works.

This wont take long at all this first bit ! As per usual the usual grip of powerless showers, yes they are clean and tidy and well set out but please turn the water pressure up a little bit !
Grip over and finished with not so good bits now onto those better elements
The reception well !
As some of you are aware his lordship is bigger than most and had quite a laugh with the ladies in the reception ! as they were like me just a tadge over 5ft ! we was made to feel very welcome by the campsite team and it was nice to have this welcome.
The security is pretty good into the place. Swipe card entrance.
We was asked to find our choice of pitches and bearing in mind we have one of the biggest twin axles on the market after checking one of the pitches it appeared at first glance we may struggle to get our caravan on and after two laps of the site one of the wardens came over and took us to a pitch and then brought out a little tractor buggy type thing, we detached and they moved our van onto the pitch for us. Our problem was with the length of the van and our 4x4 we would struggle to get the turning space for the car to reverse onto the pitch but the wardens were brillant and helped out brillantly with getting us onto one of the cul de sac pitchs. They were even still smiling and having something of a positive attitude even when the heavens opened. The staff at Grin Low are awesome and the caravan club should be proud to have these first class people.
So onto the facilities, as appears usual his lordships grip over powerflow in the showers isnt up to his standards but they are well kept, well looked after and up to the caravan clubs standards.
The views from within this site are awesome, it is set within a quarry and although some noise from planes on the way into Manchester airport it is still an impressive site at night with the stars and light reflecting on the cliff walls, it was really a lovely site to relax in.
Not far into Buxton / Bakewell from here with supermarkets and a caravan / camping accessories shops.
All in all this is a repeat site for us and we will be coming back.
For Grin Low CC site it is a B+ (sorry his lordship and his powershowers ! when I suggested a A-)

We visited this place for 5 nights over what was probably the wettest weekend this year, I thought we would be floating in the morning but in the morning there was hardly any standing water so drainage is good. It is a good job we were on hardstanding if we had been on a site on grass we would still be there up to our axles. The site was in a beautiful location with loads of walk and caves etc and things to do but because of where it is your own transport is helpful, we did not walk or cycle as much as we would have liked because of the weather. If you were to walk to Buxton town it takes about an hour or so, nice walk if the weather is good but uphill all the way back. There is loads of restaurants pubs shops etc in Buxton and a theatre and a great park for kids in Buxton. I would highly recommend the Buckingham hotel (as you go downhill towards Buxton on the right near to pedestrian lights) which had an attached bar (the name escapes me) where the food was great and the bar had about 8 different lagers and loads of real ale pumps. The site toilets and facilities (laundry room & drying room etc) were spot on and the wardens on site were very helpful and friendly, because of a few problem I had they could not do enough for us, it has encouraged me to join the caravan club if these standards are anything to go by.

We had a lovely long weekend at this site and I cannot praise the wardens enough, they were absolutely brilliant. We arrived on site to find that we had a flat tyre on our twin axel caravan. This was bad enough, but then to discover that we had left the spare and jack at home we thought we were in real trouble.
The warden and his wife were amazing they lent us a jack, recommended a tyre place, lent us a map. They were so helpful, nicer wardens I have yet to meet, a big thankyou to them.
The site is beautifully kept, toilet blocks, pitches ect are spotless. Also if like us you like going walking and biking then this is the place to be with the High peak trail and the Tissington trail not far away. From the site you can walk up to salomans temple we did this with our three year old so it's not hard, you can also walk to buxton, pooles cavern and go-ape all without using the car. A truly lovely place to stay and the kids will love the play area and chippie van.
