Stunning CC site set in a disused quarry on the edge of the Grin Low Country Park - loads of walking, woods and fantastic scenery (and all free!). We called the wardens for directions to the site before setting off and they were VERY helpful - found the site without any hassle at all! Really friendly welcome on arrival. The pitches are really big and all divided into small areas/sections so it feels quite secluded! We pitched quite near the toilet block (only one central block - but always spotless and never too busy!) but some pitches are quite a way from the block. Indoor washing up area and small info room bursting with ideas / things to do. The fish & chip waggon came round on Saturday night (this is a regular thing - he also comes on a Tuesday night). They only offer fish & chips with mushy peas and gravy as extras if your stomach can take it?! The fish & chips were good too and not overpriced. The weather wasn't the best we'd ever had but you just get on with it. Walk through the Grin Low Country Park and up to Solomans Temple - you can see Buxton town from there and the Peaks for miles around (on a clear day). You can also walk through Grin Low Woods to Pooles Cavern (no dogs allowed so we didn't venture in!). The walk to Buxton, through the woods and then down some residential streets isn't too far (uphill on the way back though!). From Pooles Cavern we entered Buxton town via the Pavilion Gardens (beautiful - even in the rain). Buxton is a lovely town with plenty to explore (Buxton Baths/Buxton Opera House). It was the well dressing festival during our stay - we managed to find 5 in and around the town - a lot of hard work had obviously gone into them all. Found a doggie friendly pub too. The Old Clubhouse (right next to the Opera House). We actually managed to sit outside and eat, during a rare dry spell in the day (!), but they do allow dogs inside. Quick, basic pub grub and not overpriced. If we decide to go back to Derbyshire we'll definitely stay at Grin Low again!

Just returned from our second trip to this lovely site. The weather has been kind to us until today when it poured down - taking the awning down was not fun! The staff are very helpful and friendly. The shower block is very clean and heated, only one block so at peak times may need to wait for a free shower. The walk into Buxton is through a wood nice walk down hard coming back as it is steep but still enjoyable. Excellent dog walking just outside the site. Would recommend this site, already booked our next visit

Have just returned from our first visit to Grin Low and luckily didn't take any notice of some of previous reviews. The site has a lot of bushes and trees and beautiful views and walks in the nearby country park. Some days the site was just about full and whenever I visited the toilet block it was practically empty so no problems with only having the one. Even from the most remote pitch on the site it was barely a two minute walk so don't be put off.
The site offers open pitches with lovely views as well as more private pitches with hedges on three sides and they are really spacious. A butcher visited daily during our stay- handy for the barbeque and the fish and chip van came twice a week and everyone seemed very satisfied with their food.
Grin Low is an ideal base for touring the area but the walks around the site kept us busy too.

This was our 1st visit to the site but it won't be our last. The site is well kept and the toilet block immaculate, although a second block would be an advantage. It snowed most of the time we were there and a very kind gentleman helped us put our awning up - thank you it was much appreciated. The walk just outside the site is great. Our two border collies and us thoroughly enjoyed the whole weekend. Hope it's better weather next time!

This site is set in a stunning location with fantastic views. Set in the middle of a national park surrounded by wildlife.
The drive up to the site is amazing with beautifull scenery.
The site itself is ok, as others have mentioned there is only 1 toilet block and depending on where you pitch it can be quite a walk.
I have to be honest and say the 2 female wardens were lovely, realy friendly but unfortunately both the males were the complete opposite,1 in particular being a real jobsworth.
That said I would definetly return for the views and location.
Give this one a try if you like walking,we visited solomons temple and as others have said the views are beautifull.
We did,nt manage to get to the caves at pooles cavern this time so we have another excuse to visit. Have Fun

Sadly we probably saw this campsite at the bleakest time, we arrived and it snowed on us, we left and it snowed on us, but we did have a bit of rain, hail and sun inbetween.
This campsite is great if you just want to get away from it all (our mobiles wouldn't work on the site) and is in a superb location for dog walking and relaxing. The view from the top of Solomon's temple is spectacular.
The wardens are very friendly and helpful, and there is a mobile chip van that visits the site on a Saturday between 4.45 and 6.15pm with very nice chips.
Downsite to the site is there is only 1 toilet block which can get busy even on a snowy weekend, so I don't think we will be visiting in the summer!
Also could do with a point where you can wash your dog off as there are so many opportunities for your dog to get muddy just off the campsite a dog hose would be a great idea.
We will return here but only off peak.

We used Grin Low as a stop over. The site is ideal for those who enjoy walking or bringing a dog as it's in a country park. The pitches are all on hard standing with ample room to put your awning up. The facilities are what you would expect with the Caravan Club with WIFI coming to the site by the end of April according to the warden.
Buxton is a short taxi ride from the site we used A Cabs (01298 70423) or you could walk if you hadn't done enough :) Buxton has a lot of history with plenty of bars for those wishing to have a few drinks and a meal.

Our first time at Grin Low and will definitely be going again. Not the prettiest of sites, but great facilities and the drying room for outdoor stuff a real bonus for walkers. Nice to walk straight out of the site and get walking. Buxtion is a good place to shop and the park there is lovely. There's a nice fish and chip shop in the village before you get there, which was very reasonable.

The facilities are up to Caravan club standard but the washing up facility is right next to the door of the block and the door has a sign on it asking for it to be left open - not too warm when washing up this weekend. I know it was snowing but surely the whole idea of indoor facilities is that it is dry and warm. Pitches are very big but all hard standing - no pitching awnings on grass - not that there is much grass. I have to say that contrary to other reviews I found the site grey, dull and lifeless. I was very dissapointed when we came over the brow of the hill to be met by this grey dismal sight. The wardens were very friendly and the site did look a bit prettier when it snowed. The walk to Solomans Temple whilst very short (15 mins) does offer great views. The other walks don't really offer much by the way of variety. Buxton is ok but not a lot to look at.
