A site we would definitly come back to. Loved the quarry location, even if it was quite a walk to the facilities. Very mixed weather when we were there, but we made it down to Poole's Cavern and up to Solomon's Temple several times.
The dogs loved it here as it was literally only 5 mins walk to get into the Country Pk - fabulous views and a very good mobile signal up there (virtually none on the site)! The walking on the various trails within easy reach was excellent too. The shower blocks etc were up to the usual CC standards and the staff were very friendly.
My only criticism is that the tumble drier was very slow and expensive - 70p for 15 mins (ignore the notice that says 20 mins!) To dry a machine load of clothes took 7 tumbling sessions (and yes I did split the load).

Our first visit to the site and we would like to go back only because of the torrential weather we had while there.
The site itself is situated in Buxton National Park. It was well kept with pitches to the right of reception more private with hedges in between. TV has changed over to digital and the signal was excellent.
Dont forget your aerial lead. Plenty of bins and water points dotted around the site. Toilet block needs updating and even though we didn't have to queue for a shower (don't think many people ventured out in the weather) we didn't feel there were enough showers for the size of site.
I think I recall a play area but can't remember the size of it.
Wardens were pleasant enough and very helpful. The fish and chip van on the Friday was the highlight of a very wet and windy day. They were reasonably priced and highly recommended.
Unfortunately due to the weather we didn't make it in to Buxton as the walk through the woods is very difficult especially with the fact we had a friend with a wheelchair. The road to Buxton is not one we would like to walk along either.
The weather certainly didn't help. We did make it up to Solomons Temple and I am sure that on a better day the views would be fantastic. Watch out for the cows in the field though - quite intent on not letting us get back through the gate. The dogs weren't sure of what to think of them close up!
You can get a taxi into the centre which we were told costs about £5.
I would like to re visit as I am sure there will be miles of wonderful walks in the area and I have heard how lovely Buxton is.

Puzzlement at the good reviews this site has received before.
This site is, in my opinion, to be avoided. Its toilet block is too small for the size of the site and is badly in need of re-furbishment. The fact its exterior colour is depressing battleship grey says it all.
The quarry location makes it very noisy as a group of out-of-control kids ran riot around caravans near the playground with their loud screaming (we are talking 14 year olds!) echoing off the quarry face.
When the warden was complained to he stated 'It's only 9. 30 (PM that is)'. This reflects a general problem in the Caravan Club - they employ older people as wardens (often retired or part-time) and they just disappear after 5pm and don't want to know.
This is not a site we will be returning to.

Situated on the outskirts of Buxton, this lovely, well maintained site is well situated.
Set in an old quarry it is within a walk or a short drive from all facilities/amenities. Buxton country park is right next door.
The pitches are mostly hard standing (rock pegs are a must) with fine gravel which makes it easier to get comfortable in an awning.
TV hookup points are available at each pitch with an excellent digital TV signal.
Wi-fi is available (at a cost) although we did not make use of it having a 3G signal on our mobile 'phones at pitch 12 despite being advised that mobile 'phone signals are not good on the site. If you do have a problem there is a telephone call box at reception.
Fresh/waste water, chemical toilet points and refuse bins, some of which incorporate recycling are never too far from most pitches. A lot of the pitches to the right as you enter the site are sheltered with hedging and this is the part of the site to choose for relative peace and quiet and a modicum of privacy. A modern, fully equipped playground is at the other end of the site where more of the pitches have a bit less privacy.
Being set in the old quarry, the site benefits from being sheltered from even the strongest of winds as the wind seems to blow right over the top of the site.
There are plenty of shops and supermarkets in Buxton so a well stocked shop on the site is not necessary, but you can order newspapers.
The toilet/shower block is excellent and is well maintained although it could get busy when the site was fuller. Perhaps the Caravan Club should consider building another or extending the current toilet block.
A fish and chip van visits the site on Friday evenings and is very good.
The Knights Table which is an inn about 3 miles south from Buxton on the road to Leek is excellent with friendly staff, superb food (go hungry) which is reasonably priced and can all be washed down with a selection of real ales while enjoying the free entertainment on Saturday nights.
A very good site in a great area which we would not hesitate to recommend.

Having tackled the winding and narrow roads of Derbyshire the approach to the site is through the country park itself, you then drop down into the bowl of the quarry where the site is, with steep cliffs behind it which are home to some nice bird life.
There are two exit and two entrance barriers, presumably to avoid queuing traffic clogging up the country park road. We were the last arrival on the Friday evening and we were told we could choose a pitch ourselves. The warden stated that all the pitches were the same size and not to go on the grass at any price (it was very soggy). The CC web site says tents are welcome and a tent area is marked on the map but the sign on the entrance says no tents.
Grin Low is a long thin site which does mean that the toilets are a fair hike (especially in the rain) from some of the pitches. The toilet block is old and not very externally appealing but it was very clean inside which is the main thing. It is closed from 10. 30-12 for cleaning. Drying room for wet coats. Washing up sinks with hot water but signs state you cannot wash BBQ’s in the washing up sinks. Plenty of bins/taps/toilet emptying drains. Two motorhome dump points in the road so easy access whichever side your outlet is on.
Pitches were generally level and the one we had (99) had just two pitches on their own with grass behind which made the pitch lovely and big. All pitches seemed to be well drained. Play area on site looked ok.
Site is very quiet at night but also very dark. All the electric bollards appeared to have lights but only a few were ever lit. Also a few streetlamps but still very dark! You could hear the aeroplanes at times but it was no problem.
Grin Low Country park nice for walking but no cycling allowed in the park which meant you had to go on the main road to get to a lot of the local cycle paths. Solomons Temple looked good but is in the middle of a cow field. The cows looked placid (we saw a dog chasing them/barking at them and they weren’t bothered) but we decided not to chance it with the dogs. Lots of sheep in the area so keeping dogs on leads is sensible. The walk to Pooles cavern through the woods was nice and they did a lovely cup of latte!
Morrisons in Buxton (3 miles) sold everything we needed for a weekend. Chip van on Fridays well worth the queue!
A nice site – we probably wont return because of the lack of cycle routes off the site but if you are a walker it would be great

This site is set in the heart of Buxton country park, so lots of walking nearby. The wardens gave us a brochure about the park which shows all the footpaths, we decided to walk into Buxton through the woods which was a bit of a trek, coming back was uphill, so only attempt it if you are fit!
here was some noise from the cattle grid near the entrance and also the resident crows! Showers a little dated and not very powerful but they do the job.
Pitches are varied, we choose one to the right with the hedges which were very spacious. Usual shops in Buxton, largest supermarket is Morrisons for supplies.
There is a play area for children, but as our son is 18 all he wants is his laptop!
Enjoyed out stay so it will be on our list to return!

Lovely caravan site in nice secluded surroundings. We turned right and ended up in a quiet area, with privacy hedges between every pitch.
Toilets were spotlessly clean and never queued despite it being bank holiday weekend. The country park next door provides lovely walks if you have a dog.
A walk to solomans temple was most enjoyable. A walk to town is possible, but it's a uphill climb all the way back.
Would definitely return. Wardens not overly friendly, but you can't have everything I suppose.

This is an excellent Caravan Club Site secretly located in an old quarry which has been well-landscaped with trees and shrubs which divide the site into smaller pitching areas with hard-standings.
The site is quiet but is within easy reach of the spa town of Buxton with all its facilities either by car or by walking through the woods at the back of the site.
A good base for those who like walking in the Peak District. The toilet facilities are excellently maintained and the wardens very helpful.

Nice site set in the bowl of an old quarry, situated in the Grin Low and Buxton National Park. Only one toilet block so the furthest pitches have a walk to use facilities.
Not particularly good views from most pitches due to the low lying location, but walk back out of the quarry or up to Solomans Temple and you can see for miles. Ideal for walkers with walks leading from the entrance. Good walk through the woods to Poole Cavern (20mins) and on to Buxton.
Buxton is a lovely Georgian/Victorian town with lovely park and Opera House well worth a visit. Hargreaves Edwardian Tea Rooms are a much better choice than the usual High Street chains, and situated in Spring Lane near the well.
Buxton has a Waitrose and Morrisons if you need shopping. Walking back through the woods from Poole Cavern follow the signs to Soloman's Temple rather than Grin Low, better and shorter route. Site is typical Caravan Club, good well managed facilities, with the usual rules and regulations and do's and don't's notices one expects with the 'club'.
Facilities cleaned daily, but as usual we were amazed with the condition some people leave the toilets in (and no youngsters on site!). As usual the wardens seem to have forgotten who the customer is and about making the stay enjoyable.
Reception warden was not the most welcoming, but the other wardens were ok. Limited shop in reception mainly for the essentials you may have forgotten like us - washing up liquid.
All in all this is a good site for a long weekend and as a base to tour this part of Derbyshire. Would visit again but only for long weekends.

Lovely area. What a joy to find a cool breeze at last after all that heat farther south. Enjoyed exploring Buxton and would have liked more time to do it justice.
The site can't be faulted, and with a good mix of age-groups.
A better stocked shop would be useful but we were saved by the arrival of the fish & chip van. Lovely fresh fish and don't stint on the mushy peas!
