A lovely site, well sheltered, great facilities and in beautiful surroundings. A short walk (or long drive via a roundabout route if you didn't realise like us!) to Poole's Cavern and Solomon's temple. The site is set within the Grin Low country park which is beautiful to walk (or run!) around, although there is quite a steep ascent out of the quarry in the first place.
The facilities are lovely - clean, modern and plentiful and include a fantastic family bathroom which made cleaning up our mucky small children a breeze. There's a nice little playground to keep the children happy and some grassy areas to play in. I would have preferred the children to have been able to play around the tent but there wasn't really any room away from the roads. Depends on exactly which pitch you're on I suppose.
There are only 5 pitches for tents (with EHUs) so we were quite pleased to get one. We have quite a large tent (5m x 7m) and only just managed to pitch in the area we had, the pitches are of different dimensions so probably worth checking if you have a large tent.
I really like the town of Buxton, it's my favourite base for the Peaks so I'm sure we'll be back to this campsite.

Approaching the site from Chesterfield the maps tend to take you around the Buxton ring road which is a long way round to where you need to be. At the Morisons Supermarket roundabout (coming into Town from Bakewell) turn left where it is signposted to the Country Park. Traffic Lights at Fiveways junction straight on and just keep going till you come to the end of the road at a T Junction lights turn left onto the Leek Road.
The site is signposted off this road but be ready to get into first gear as you more or less do a you turn travelling up hill to get onto the road to the site.
Set in a an old quarry it is a well sheltered site and as the sun goes down watch the rocks turn from slate grey to red. Eerie.
The end of the site near the reception has hedges between the pitches. At the other end of the site the pitches are open. So do you want privacy or company? Privacy? Then turn right as soon as you are through the barrier. Company? Straight on past the Toilet block.
We turned right. Plenty of water / waste water / elsan points (as you might expect from the CC) so not far to walk although in this area a walk is a joy.
Like most CC sites the hook up includes a TV point and we picked up many digital channels with brilliant reception. (No Channel 5 though so the wife missed out on Flash Forward).
Not much in the shop so you need to stock up away from the site. Speaking to the wardens they told us that they often found they had stock to throw away so don't bother to keep much in, even the milk is long life. So if caravanners don't use the shop that's what happens.
The site is right next to the Country Park through which you can walk up to Solomon's Tower for panoramic views down into Buxton and beyond.
Then from there you can wander through the woods down to Poole Cavern and from there it is just a short walk to the park in Buxton, Theatre and Town Centre.
Theatre is well worth a visit. Splendid building. There are often exhibitions in the buildings adjoining the Theatre spilling out into the park.
Poole Cavern cafe is a rare treat. It allows dogs in and supplies dog buiscuit treats for free. Very handy for us, despite it being May, it was snowing when we arrived there around lunch time and we faced the prospect of sitting out in it for lunch!
Its about a 15 minute walk from the site to Poole cavern
Walk in another direction from the site and you are high up on the moor looking south towards the Roaches.
The site is to the usual high standard of the CC and well worth a visit. If the weather is bad so that you are stuck for something to do its not far up the road to Glossop Caravans for some retail therapy.

Yet another fab weekend at this site. It's just the best. We have been here several times over the last few years, have to keep coming back.
Lovely walk into buxton through the woods only 20 mins - hard work coming up hill back to site but a glass of wine and a snooze helped! Still highly recommended.
The wardens are really friendly and the facilities are spotless. Set in an old quarry surrounded by trees and fields.

A lovely site with a nice play area for under teens. Good sized pitches. As said before the wind can be quite strong probably due to the shape of the quarry.
All amenities are up to usual CC standards as are the staff. Lots to see in the surrounding area. Fish & chip van arrived on site on Saturday night and it did exactly what it said on the van. Fish & chips only so if you don't like fish beware! Return? Definitely.

A lovely quiet site set well away from any traffic. As has been said this was once a quarry and it makes for a lovely location.
There are all the usual CC amenities and everything is well kept as you would expect. There is a play area and a country park on your door step.
The EHU's have a TV booster which being in a quarry you certainly need.
One thing to watch especially if you have an awning is the wind, it comes whistling down the quarry and is esp fierce at the bottom, where the view is nice but there is little protection.
Plenty to do in the local area it's really good for walking but not cycling unless you are incredibly fit!

What a gem this site is, its set in an old quarry surrounded by trees and rocks which looks beautiful
The facilities were spotless, there was a £10.00 deposit for the key to use the disabled and toddler rooms which is refunded when you return the key
Walkers will be in heaven here, there are loads of places to walk. Buxton is lovely and only a couple of miles away and I can recommend a visit to Poole caverns

What a lovely site!
The wardens were delightful (even though they were rushed off their feet - it was half term week). They waited until 8pm to make sure we got to our pitch rather than using the late night arrivals area - a credit to the caravan and camping club.
The site itself is clean and well maintained - even the nearby sheep looked groomed and happy :)
The off site dog walk was also great - our West Highland White - Angus McTavish - loved it!
The nearby towns of Bakewell, Buxton, Castleton and Tideswell are also worth a visit.
We'll be back!

This was our first ever trip out in our caravan and the staff where fantastic they couldn't of been more helpful and they all made you feel very welcome and friendly, we have a small toddler and the baby /toddler room was excellent very clean with a perfect sized bath just for little ones even a hairdryer for them and a toddler size toilet as well, all very clean and lovely and warm inside, the adult facilities were excellent to very clean private and well maintained. The site was set in beautiful surroundings perfect for walks or going to buxton or bakewell for the day.On a saturday nite there is a fish and chip van on site brilliant idea gets very busy thow prepare to queue. The little park is great our little boy loved it sited right next to it he loved it. We would definitely recommend this site to anyone and definitely will be returning in the near future, only thing it needs is a pub on site.

We enjoyed a long weekend at this site as it is only 20 miles from where we live. The site is in a disused quarry and in the middle of a large country park, with plenty of walks and room for the kids to tire themselves out! The site was very peaceful and the facilities were very clean(up to caravan club standard). The wardens were pleasant and helpful, also liked the drying room, very useful as it rained constantly while we were there. Buxton is a lovely town, well worth a visit, as is the cavern which is in walking distance of the site.

A very nice site facilities excellent as with all CC sites. A trip to the Tram museum at Crich near Matlock is well worth it and is very good value for money. Just one gripe, The children's play area seems to be in an area with a very large population of mosquitoes, so go prepared. A local butcher visits the site at about 4:30 pm if the weather is nice
