We stayed here as a group of 4 adults in August and cannot recommend this campsite highly enough! We only stayed for 2 nights but were so impressed we wished it was for longer and wouldn't hesitate to return in the future. It is on the pricier side but in my opinion this price is earned through the great quality of the site, the helpful and friendly owners and how well they maintain everything.
When we arrived we found the reception easily signposted and were greeted by the owner and her daughter who were both extremely friendly. We were asked if we'd like to order papers or milk for the following morning and they were both chatty, making conversation with us and making us feel very welcome. As it was due to be so windy that weekend the owner recommended the best sheltered places to pitch up our tent and allowed us to select the final plot as there was plenty of space. We chose our pitch and were led there by a man on his bike - this sort of service is really nice and is something I haven't seen for 15+ years!
Driving through the site you can see it is extremely well kept and looks beautiful. There were lots of tall hedgerows to protect from the wind and these also helped to divide the site up into smaller pockets, each with their own toilet and shower block. It was a nice ground to pitch up on and when the people we were camping with realised their air bed needed mains power to inflate it the owner was more than happy to allow them into an out building to inflate it using her socket.
Whilst there I used 2 of the 3 shower blocks and found them both to be very clean, in fact spotless I would say. They were kept well stocked with toilet roll and soap and with there being ample showers and toilets I never had to queue, even in August. The showers were also nice and hot with good pressure. There were plenty of washing up sinks too meaning we never had to queue for that either and, whilst I didn't use it, I did look in the laundry room which looked like a good set up.
The reception had a little shop in it selling essential food and tent/caravan supplies - great for if you run out of gas at breakfast time one morning!
The location of the site is lovely with gorgeous views out over the Cambridge countryside and a dog walking path at the top of the site. There is a village nearby and it's close to the M11 so access is straightforward but you can't hear the motorway which is great.
The owners take great pride in this site and it's clear to see why!

When we arrived at Highfield, we realised we had stayed here before, many years ago. We stayed for 2 nights, Friday and Saturday. The lady in reception was very friendly, asked if we wanted to order newspapers or milk. She rode her bike to show us the pitches available to us.
As we were just 2 adults she showed us the small field, very nice. We had pitch 12 in the corner so nice and secluded. There were very high hedges which gave privacy to the small field and also shielded us if the weather was rainy or windy (which it wasn't). We did not want electric hook up.
The Showers and toilets were spotless. As you enter the site there is a large area with electric hook up with hard standings for caravans and motorhomes. To the right were ladies, gents and mixed showers, a laundry room, chemical disposal and bins.
We didn't need an electric pitch so were happy where we were. The pitches in the small field are quite small as they are for one or two campers.
Further into the site were large motorhomes, caravans and tents with more than 2 people. We could hear children playing which was nice for us in the distance! There was a small shop and post office in Barton village, just a few minutes by bike. There was also a hairdressers and shoe shop, might have been more shops but can't remembers.
We cycled into Cambridge, once out of the village and through Barton on to quite a busy road, but the cycle path was separate from the road, took us about 30 mins of casual cycling.
We arrived back to the site after spending the day in Cambridge to see the fish and chip van on site. We had already eaten in Cambridge so did not try their fish and chips, but quite a few people were queueing.
I would highly recommend Highfield and will stay here again if in the area.

This was our first time 'proper' camping and not at a music festival for a change.
The website is straight from the 1990s and has no online booking facilities. You have to send a deposit via cheque to reserve. No PayPal accepted either and there's a sneaky 3% credit card charge when you pay (not mentioned either).
The campsite entrance has no electronic key fob and you have to borrow a key if you dare stay out beyond 10pm! It's a pain having to keep getting out of your car every time you want to leave the site.
There's no usable Wifi signal, but thankfully a very strong 3G/4G signal covers the site from the mast nearby (there's also a cool deep space satellite dish visible from the field).
Ice Creams at the camp shop are an eye watering £1. 30 for a Mini Milk, but a very well stocked Costcutter is 5 minutes away should you want a newspaper or sandwiches or a cheaper ice cream.
It's an overall very clean camp site with sparkling showers, nice walks in the surrounding fields and AMAZING fish & chips on Saturday night out the back of a van!
However, the biggest disappointment with our stay was that the staff weren't always friendly towards us. Our young daughter had a shower block door slammed in her face as we were ARRIVING by a member of the campsite staff who barked at me about leaving the door open to 'attract pigeons'. The same person was also sitting right by the front gate and refused to get up off his backside to save us getting out the car! There's a general consistent lack of manners and politeness which stops us giving 10 out of 10 here. Come on - it's not hard.
The toilets nearest our pitch were permanently closed (saving on cleaning apparently). We had to walk slight further for showers and using the toilets.
We stayed a week and the final comment from a staff member about us 'ruining the lawn' with our tent made us vow to not come back. Shame.

Our unit is a Khyam Motordome Awning - a hybrid tent?
We rang before arriving to check on pitch availability and as it wasn't for a weekend, the site was quiet. But due to exceptionally heavy rain, we were warned that the grass pitches were very wet, and we had to ring on the morning of departure to see if there was indeed a suitable pitch for our set-up (the tent/awning part has to be attached to the back of our vehicle on a grass pitch). Fortunately there was a pitch dry enough for us. I have to say that the owners couldn't have been more welcoming, and helpful in seeing that we were happy with the pitch and we could see it had been prepared for us.
The whole site is divided into separate areas bounded by high windbreak hedging, with facilities close to each area. Caravans and tents were mixed in our area, and arranged all around the edge so there was a welcome big space in the centre. We went at a quiet time, as we prefer, and weren't disappointed.
The facilities were immaculate, with three showers plus thoughtfully provided chairs for those of us with less balance, an area outside the showers with mirrors and hairdryers, two private washbasins with curtains, four open washbasins, and 5 or 6 toilets. Lovely and clean, lots of hot water, free very controllable showers, and somewhere it felt like there was heating on, appreciated on chilly June evenings. The washing up basins, under cover, always had really hot water and were clean. The rubbish and recycling bins round the corner were emptied every early morning and always clean and tidy too.
We had come down from the North West to go to Duxford Air Museum, and chose the site accordingly. Also, as neither of us are 'spring chickens' and had missed out on our camping last year for the first time in 18 years due to my own health problems, I wanted to see if I was still able to enjoy it as much. And I did! BUT, not the sleeping on an airbed on the floor bit anymore! I slept fine, as always, but getting up from the airbed???!
However, we had a wonderful day at nearby Duxford with dry, warm weather, and then another good day at Ely Cathedral, unfortunately cut short by a sudden heavy downpour which carried on into mid-evening. More heavy rain was forecast for later the next day too, so we decided very reluctantly to pack up and return home, having done what we'd wanted to do. I'm sure there was lots more to look at (besides Cambridge - been there, done that in years past) but we didn't want to, given the poor forecast.
This is a wonderful site, and we enjoyed our short stay, and we'd come back like a shot if we were looking for a good site down this way again. But I don't think we will be camping in future. So all I can do is highly recommend the site!

I don't usually leave reviews for campsites but felt I had to for this one as it's such a lovely well kept site and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The site has easy access for the motorways and for visiting places with lots of lovely villages in the area. The facilities are spotlessly clean, well equipped, it was nice to have plenty of hooks and a chair in the shower cubicles. We used this site as we enjoy walking and there are plenty of places to walk with lots of public footpaths. The site was lovely and quiet and the only downfall was the pigeons in the trees behind the caravan, there was a lot of mess on the grass and on our caravan and also on our step and table but we learned early on in the week to put these under the caravan when not in use, although this isn't something the owners can stop and it won't stop us from using this lovely site again in future.

Beautiful and a gem of a site. Helpful and friendly owners, always good for a chat after a big welcome. All facilities were excellent. The on site farm walk is excellent with views over the Cambridgeshire countryside. We used it as a base for Duxford Air Show but wish our stay could have been longer, but we will return. Excellent carvery at the village golf club. The chinese restaurant is also a take away but not too much to write home about.

What an excellent site, flat well tended spacious pitches surrounded mostly by tall hedging which is used to great effect to provide some privacy if that's what you want. The facilities are spotless, laundry section has washers n driers that will happily take quilts and sleeping bags if needed. A site with good access from the M11. Very handy for Duxford which is just around the corner for you aero fans. Cambridge city is also just 5 miles away. The staff are friendly and helpful so what are the negatives if any ??? Hmmm, can we have some pot drainer racks in the dish washing areas please ! That it. Would we return, most certainly.

Warm greeting on arrival. Excellent site. Well maintained and laid out. The shower and toilet blocks are very clean and none of those silly push in buttons for the hot water. Great dog walk around farm land which is grassed for the purpose - about 1 and half miles circuit. Good location for getting to Cambridge City but do take the local Park & Ride service as the City is really set up for cyclists! We spotted some Spitfire aeroplanes that flew regularly over the site too. Do give this site a visit if in the area, you won't be disappointed.

We stayed for weekend of duxford airshow, having booked through Facebook page. Warm welcome and shown to our pitch, facilities explained and a little map etc. Park is well set out with hedges as windbreaks, toilets and showers very clean - even a chair in the shower to sit and get dressed. Milk and papers ordered - chip van had let the owners down so not sure if it's going to be coming back. Leaflets and menus in the information hut, no WiFi here so daughter let go of her phone ! Very happy with the site and hope to stay again soon.

We stayed there with a group when we were doing a dog display in Cambridge. The owner was very helpful and although we had mixed units put us all together. The site was very clean and tidy, plenty of hot water and the shower cubicles are nice and big so room to move. There is a shop on site and gas is also for sale. A fish and chip van comes round on a Saturday and the owner said she would get our order for us ans pay her when we got back. There is a dog walk at the back of the site and a small playground for the kids. There is a pub in the village who accommodated 10 of us at short notice and the food was excellent.
