We stayed here for 5 nights at the end of a 5 week campervan tour of the Lakes, Arran, Scotland and the Lakes (again). What a fabulous camp site! And, at £19. 50 a night for a large pitch with electric hook up, and free showers, a real bargain. But, for us, the real bonuses were the views, the dog walking options, the network of cycle paths (must take my bike next time) the cleanliness, the facilities, the free wifi, the comfy lounge and the location.
So, addressing each in order:-
The views - Latterbarrow to the east, the Coniston fells to the west and fields of sheep in the immediate surroundings.
The dog walking options were endless thanks, largely, to the new (?) cycle paths. We stayed 5 nights and our dog is walked every morning and evening. Yet, I don't think he did exactly the same walk twice. Not to mention the stream to drink from and paddle in.
The cycle paths seem to be very extensive - I have looked, in vain, for a map of the routes but it seems that a lot of money has been invested in laying trails all over the Langdale, Ambleside and Hawkshead area since we stayed in this area 5 years ago.
The cleanliness of this site is A1 - the shower cubicles have a curtain which, love them or hate them, keeps your clothes dry on the stool or hanger whilst you splash til your hearts content. Normally I hate them because they cling to you just as they have clung to countless other naked bodies for months (or years?). Not at Hawkshead! During our 5 night stay the shower curtains were changed at least 3 times.
The facilities were more than adequate (plenty of showers, basins and loos for the size of the site) and it was lovely to be able wash the pots indoors, rather that just under an invariably wet, windy, grubby canopy. This room - 4 sinks plus drainer, I think - was spotlessly clean. There was an adjacent laundry room which I didn't enter so I can't comment on that.
Free wifi is always a bonus! But, I could only get a connection inside the TV room or just outside, not on the pitches. But that's a minor detail, especially when the TV room is warm and cosy with comfy sofas.
The location, for us, has always been a bit too far south as we've spent the last 20 years climbing, and staying close to, the 214 Wainwrights. If that isn't of interest to you, this site is in a great location because it has the aforementioned cycle trails for walking, as well as a myriad of footpaths and bridle ways on the doorstep; it is a 10 minute drive from lovely Ambleside with its pretty park, outdoor shops, chip shop, great pubs and other eateries; it is a 10 minute walk into Hawkshead which has some good eateries and pubs; and it is a 10 minute drive to lovely Elterwater and on into stunning Great Langdale. Not to mention Hill Top, Wray Castle, Coniston and Grizedale Forest. All of which are nearby, as is the ferry across Windermere. A bus service passes the gate although I'm not sure where it goes.
A delivery man comes around the site every morning in his van and blows his horn so there's no excuse for missing breakfast - he sells milk, eggs, yogurt and much more.
In summary, we liked this site so much that we hope to go back with the caravan (and bicycles!) for 4 weeks next year. Now that we've almost finished the Wainwrights we hope to relax and enjoy this beautiful area from the comfort of a first class site.

Lovely campsite in pretty valley, only a few minutes walk from Hawkshead village along a footpath away from the road, where there is a small supermarket open 7am-10pm every day, several nice pubs and cafes and some history.
The site has very nice, clean shower facilities, covered washing-up area with plenty of hot water and a laundry room with one washing machine and dryer. The main field wasn't crowded and another large field was opened to cater for extra campers at the weekends.
We had terrible weather for much of our stay and our pitch (with hookup) was water-logged but I think this was exceptional. This was one of the first 2 pitches on the left as you drive onto the site so be aware. Also, a boot drying room would be very useful.
No play area for children but plenty of space for games. Despite the wet, we would happily use the site again.

Lovely campsite located just outside of hawkshead. Large campsite but well spaced pitches so does not feel too big.
Facilities are clean, plenty of hot water. Pressure a bit low but what can you expect for the middle of the lake district!
Good value for money. Lovely views and nice atmosphere in the evening. This is a working farm so there are sheep/pigs etc around.

Lovely site, well spaced out pitches, toilets and showers are really good and kept very clean, 4 showers and plenty of sinks. Have 4 wash up sinks, 2 washers and a tumble dryer, had a problem with the washer not spinning and the owners were happy to help and reset the machine so the clothes could be spun properly, we didn't use the dryer as it was lovely and warm.
To walk into town is on the side of the road with no path so when roads were busy had to stop a few times as didn't feel comfortable until traffic passed. There is a pay and display car park in the village which is a little expensive but handy for the town, a local cooperative is there for all you basics and much more.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Well. I don't want to moan too much, but on arriving the lady didn't answer the door bell, after 10mins and plenty more ringing, she finally opened up, as we only wanted to stay the one night, you could tell that was not good enough for her, . After some time she said she has got just one space left, but on moving onto it there was enough room for two plus they each had EHU. The toilet block was very clean, but when I had a nice hot long shower, the lights went out and I had to wait for someone to come in and use the loo or shower, as the lights were on sensors. NOT impressed.
That night we were inundated with flies, don't know what we were near, but there were loads. My electronic bat worked overtime that night, and even as we were driving the next day, we still had flies buzzing around. It was not us, as we never suffered from them again all holiday away from there.
Going passed there on our way out of the lakes later on that evening, we noticed that the two places we had were still vacant. Need I say more

Sadly we could not book our 5 nights at The Croft, so settled, as the only real alternative to be in Hawkshead, we booked the Hawkshead Hall Farm site. We were far from disappointed, and this is despite the weather on arrival on the 5th, and our departure on the 10th.
The reception on arrival was welcoming, friendly and useful. The toilet block and washing-up area were superlative, and for the first time on any site, we had access 24/7 to our cold blocks for the cool box. A small, but important point.
A less than 10 minute walk via the path or across the field to the village, this site equals The Croft, despite the immediate access to the village. Yet not an issue when we drove (all of a few minutes due to having an elderly dog) as we were allowed to park at The Croft cottages - a mere minute from the village.
There is no shop, but why? When the excellent Co-Op in the village is nearby, or Ambleside, Windermere and Bowness are so near.
Our youngest daughters first experience of camping was at The Croft 5 years ago, we have been back since but she now prefers Hawkshead Hall Farm, and we have to agree with her!

Most expensive site I have ever used. £16. 50 for one night one person small tent. Facilities were very good but not justified in price. Will give this site a miss.
What's the plus points. Easy walking distance into Hawkshead and close to Grizedale forest.
Very clean newly built large toilet blocks. Compared with similar sites for £9 per night its too expensive.

A great campsite, a few rolling hillsides but we found enough flat space for our ten with no problems. It was pitch where you like and great views into woodland with a few baaing sheep at night/early morning!
Lovely, immaculate shower and toilet block, fully stocked with soap and hand driers. Plus electric points for hair dryers or phone chargers. Showers weren't very powerful but always hot.
Washing up area was plenty big enough and brilliant freezer for free access to cold packs. You could even sometimes get BT Wifi if you stood in the wash-up room!
Great easy walk into the village down a purpose built path away from the road, Hawkshead itself very quaint, some good pubs, the lovely Hawkshead Relish Company and clothes shop.
Easy access to surround villages, Ambleside, Coniston etc. Now if they could just arrange for a week of sunshine it'd be perfect!

Stayed here for one night while doing a Coast to Coast cycle.
The reception was great and handled very quickly. We were told the area of the site for Tents and found there to be plenty of space.
The toilet/shower block is amazing and has to be seen to be believed. 5* in my book.
The wash up facilities were very good and well laid out so 4 people can be washing up there stuff at once.
The pitch was flat and quiet which was a pleasant change.
The village of Hawkshead is just a 5 min walk away along a path the farm have created for the customers to use.
The water points were well placed and the refuge facilities well away from the tent pitches.
All in all a great place to stay.

We booked here as we couldn't get into the croft which has always been our preference because of its proximity to hawkshead centre. However, the prices at croft have gone though the roof since its been redone and we would choose hawkshead hall every time now we have actually stayed here.
The toilet block is exactly the same as the croft used to be so it is clear its the same outfit. Use the footpath to town rather than the road - it really is only a short walk to the centre. Friendly lady when we booked in. Farm animals on site a lovely bonus to give that countryside feel. Sadly as we were there over Easter weekend there was a loud group of two families who blocked our lovely view and shouted at their kids a lot but I guess you have to expect that in the school holidays - choose your pitch wisely.
Will definitely return.
My only reason for not giving it 10 out of 10 is there are very few electric hook ups so we had to go without.
