Good site situated in an excellent part of the lake District. Easy walk to Hawkshead via a path through a field. Toilets are situated in a porta-cabin but are maintained and cleaned to a high standard. This site is currently undergoing some work with regards drainage and a new toilet and shower block are currently under construction. I would urge everyone to give this site a go.

Last minute decision to make the most of unseasonably warm sunshine at the beginning of April. Lots of sites were shut or struggling with water from previous week's rain. This one had just opened and was very quiet.
Perfect location and great views all round. We tried to pitch as far away from all other tents but still ran into trouble with the 11pm curfew on both nights. So we had to go to sleep but that was the only downside and I guess we had less hangover and more energy for bike trails in Grizedale on Saturday and boating on Sunday.
Showers were clean and water was, if anything, a bit too hot. Freezer (for blocks, free) and wash up area fine.
Sorry about the noise, we really didn't think our voices were that loud!
Would definitely go back if they'd have me for the location alone if nothing else.

This was our second stay at this campsite and we will be returning again! There is plenty of space and it never feels crowded. The owners are very helpful and always about keeping an eye on things.
The toilet / washing up facilities were always clean and there was plenty of hot water.
Hawkshead village is a 10minute walk through the fields to plenty of pubs, cafes and the co op (cash machine).
We stayed for three nights and didn't drive anywhere because of the locality to Grizedale forest and Tarn Hows etc.

With this campsite you are basically looking at a hilly farmer's field with a farmhouse, some slate gravel tracks and a portable cabin with toilets and 2 showers (for the ladies - assume its the same for the men) in and a shed where you can wash up.
When we arrived it was fairly busy and difficult to find somewhere to pitch which was levelish and where we could get the pegs in as although there is good grass coverage there is solid rock a couple of inches under the surface. In some areas its single rocks which you can peg round, in others it's large rocks which made pitching impossible, even with rock pegs (and we only had enough of them for the guys).
If you can, pitch on high ground as the lower more flat pitches get waterlogged quickly in persistent rainfall (and this is the lakes after all).
We ended up pitching on a very flat but slightly squishy bit of low ground, which was fine for our drizzly stay but would have been a problem if the rain had really set in.
The location is brilliant and there is a lovely walk to Hawkshead village and it is in a great location for visiting the Lakes attractions.
The toilet facilities are immaculate, and usually were well stocked with toilet paper and soap etc. However, we only stayed for 3 nights and for 2 of the mornings there was no hot water. I can stand a cold shower but it's not really on for a 3 year old (or a delicate husband lol) and it's rubbish for pot washing! Mixed reasoning as to what the problem was. Rumours around the campsite were that the plumber had been called and that it had been off and on all week but when I mentioned it on leaving the farmer (I assume) said the gas had just run out. I was offered a reasonable refund though which I was more than happy to accept.

We visited this site with our trailer tent, two adults and two dogs. We found the site lovely and peaceful. Even at the weekend when it got busy it still seemed quiet. There was some building work in the next field near the farmhouse (looked like they were putting a new road in to enter the site). The work was done at sensible times and did not not bother us.
Our pitch was flat although the site is quite hilly so some seemed very uneven. There was plenty of space between units. The toilet block was small but always seemed to be very clean and although the site was full over the weekend managed to not have to queue for the showers!
The village was a short walk away through a couple of fields which was nice as was the village of Hawkshead which had some lovely shops.
Most other attractions were a drive away but the location we found ideal being between Coniston and Windermere lakes and also Grizedale forest just down the road.
We intend to visit again in September as the dogs loved all the swimming and there was so many things we never got round to doing. We plan to stay on this site again.

Stayed here for 8 days - so we must have been Happy!
It's a really nice location, just 5 minutes easy walk to Hawkshead village, which has 4 pubs, can covers basic needs and has outdoor shops, and which is a bit touristy in the day, but OK in the evening.
Plenty of levelish places to pitch at the site, although it was very busy on the Saturday night and it would have been hard to find any more good spots although the site was not full.
Showers & toilets small and there were queues at the w/e, but always hot water. Good washing up facilities. Free freezer for blocks. A good fairly basic site.
Sign says families only, but they accept couples and also a couple of 'older' bikers were there, so I guess it's just a precaution against big groups.
A little pricey at £14.50 a night, but this is the Lake District!

Stayed there with a one man tent and car, friends in a campervan with electric. Cost me the same as them £14.50 per night which is not good. Friendly welcome, clean and hot showers but small, same as toilets - in a portable cabin.
Good points are the short walk to the village, and not overcrowded like the main site in the village which was full to the brim and very little room between tents. Recommend it some more hooks in beside the sinks and the toilets please.
And one final reminder-singles should not pay the same as others, we have less gear and take up less room, been to other sites with far more to offer which cost less than this one!

Would not recommend this site if you prefer camping light. We were charged a premium (GBP23.50 rather than GBP16.50 per night) for using 2 small backpacking tents rather than our large family tent, for 2 adults and 2 kids, even though we used less space than most other families.
Facilities (toilet block, wash up area) were minimal, but always clean. Queues for toilet block at busy times. No other facilities, and no re-cycling capability that I could find.
As regard pitches, difficult to find a flat pitch, but at least the ground was good for getting pegs in.
New footpath into Hawkshead, away from the road, is a bonus.

We were lucky enough to have a pitch almost on our own at the top of a hill which made pitching in the wind difficult but gave us fantastic views. There is no dog walk but the owner told us we could walk around the site as long as we picked up any mess.
The walk into Hawkshead was a lovely walk through local fields which offered us the opportunity to let the dog have a run off lead. The site itself was nice and quiet but a little basic, the shower and toilet portable cabin was adequate if a little small. It would also benefit from the addition of private sink areas.
We found people using the electric sockets in the toilet block to charge laptops and mobile phones! We were pitched close to the pot wash area which seemed to create noise from 7 am – midnight and being a working farm there was occasional noise from agricultural machinery.
Hawkshead itself is a lovely place. We did find that although all pubs served food from 6 pm unless you got there before this you had to wait for a table although this may be due to it being a school holiday. We ate at the Sun Inn twice and Kings Arms twice, the later being a favourite. We never managed to get a table at the Red Lion and did find that there was little space inside the pubs so we always sat outside. We ventured to the Outgate Inn on the first day and it is well worth the walk. We also found that there was never any bread products in the local co-op or any of the local villages so struggled with this and ended up going to petrol garages to get some. Overall a great site, would return but for no longer than 5 nights.

Spent three nights here and really enjoyed it, not an expensive site by a long chalk. HawksHead is only minutes away on foot, (cross two fields). Has a good range of pubs, The Sun, Red Lion, Kings Arms and The Queens Head all had the pleasure of our company. The Queens Head was our personal favourite, (good food, great atmosphere and a warm welcome with extremely attentive manager and staff but without being overbearing). Local Co-op with cash machine.
So, my only gripe. Is that two portable cabin showers (per gender) for a 55 pitch site is woefully inadequate!
