This site is highly recommended by us for the tourer who's needs are basic. A pretty, quiet, friendly site. We went here as a 4 pitch family group with ages from old to young. We set up the eldest of our group at the top of a small hill right next to the shower/toilet block and the rest settled in the middle of the site. No complaints from any of us.
The shower/toilet block is of the best we have come across in a long time and was found immaculately clean at all times. We can't praise the friendliness of the site team enough. The footpath to the village was a bit of an obstacle course after a rain-fall but was a pleasant way to reach the inviting village of hawkshead, and it's shops, pubs and amenities. All in all our experience of hawkshead hall has left a great impression on us and we know were to stay the next time we visit.

Visited this site for a couple of days. Absolutely lovely. The views and the fact that there was no noise after 11am was great, as you do get the odd idiots who like to push it, but not on this site, so lets hope it stays like that. Best toilets I have ever seen and kept clean at all times. All for £17 per night. Only a short walk to the village, pubs were very friendly and food was very good in the Red Lion and nice staff. Will be visiting again before the end of this year.

This was the least of our recommended sites for a 12- day trip to Yorkshire and the Lake District. All very professional but gave the impression of a money making business. Yes toilets and shower block very clean and new. However wash up water next door luke warm. No laundry facilities. Said families only but there were at least 2 school groups and it was a Tuesday. There was a notice in the wash up area that said they had a good relationship with the local police. So basically we will not be staying there again.

This was quite a nice basic site we stayed at the bottom of the hill, Toilet block was a walk up the hill but were brand new and clean. Fantastic views. Only let down was the constant wind and rain, surprisingly we stuck it out for 5 nights, site was a mud bath by the time we left A short walk off road will take you to Hawkshead which has 3 good pubs for food. Take a torch with you as the walk is across two fields and there is no light. We were more or less the only couple there so it was so peaceful apart from one night a group decided to return from a night hike at 3:00 in the morning so there was about an hr of talking, which was a bit annoying, but this seems to be the norm when camping regardless of any rules. Probably would stay at this site again

A pretty basic site, but in a lovely setting. We were three families meeting up for a couple of nights, with children ranging from 4 to 17 years of age. The site was not too busy (the last weekend of the school holidays) and there was plenty of room for the young ones to run around. It was quite hard to find really flat areas, but not too difficult to find a spot with an insignificant slope, and space for 3 family tents next to each other.
As other people have noted, the toilet/shower block is new, in very good condition - and warm!
Perfectly adequate washing-up area, and outside standpipe for drinkable water.
The first night was extremely cold for the time of year - but it was well worth having a not particularly good night's sleep for the experience of emerging from the tent in the early morning to be greeted by the stunning vista of surrounding fells, with patches of low-lying mist in the sunlight.

Just returned after spending a weekend at this campsite. Had a very enjoyable weekend with my girlfriend in a brilliant campsite. The woman who runs the site was very nice and very helpful.
The toilets/showers where very modern and were kept clean. (got a bit smelly at times, an air freshener wouldn't go amiss, but it was a very busy hot weekend). 4 shower cubicles, (not the most powerful in the world, but warm and more than adequate) and a few toilet cubicles and sinks. The site was very busy especially on the Saturday night but didn't need to queue, just got to time it right!
The site is a bit hilly but there is plenty of flat area's in between to pitch tent's, and some great views into the valleys, along with the surrounding fields full of sheep and cows.
Not sure if it was fully booked but it didn't seem anywhere near as crammed as the other site in Hawkshead, which although flat, looked rammed.
5-10 minute walk into Hawkshead through 2 fields which is a nice walk. The village has a coop and a few other shops as well as a clothing place and there are buses into Ambleside and Winderemere.
Milkman came at around 10 am every morning, we never needed to buy anything but there was a price list outside the washing up area which seemed reasonable.
A fridge to put ice blocks in free of charge (it was busy so space in the freezer was hard to find)
At 16. 50 per night for 2 adults +car it was very reasonably priced.
There was a no noise rule after 11, however this didn't seem to be enforced, there was one family near us in particular who where making noise well past midnight talking very loudly on both nights which was quite frustrating.
Perfect family site however as I just went with my girlfriend it was a bit frustrating to have kids running wild. Particularly around our pitch. And this is the only thing that may put me off returning, however maybe this is to be expected in the summer holidays.
I'd recommend this campsite to families and couples who don't mind kids running wild!

Stayed here for one night on way home from Scotland.
Appears to be very popular site, our hard standing pitch was right next to toilet block, bins & water point so quite a lot of human traffic noise well past 10pm.
Toilet block is very nice & clean, location at Hawkshead is also good with a number of nice pubs but if intend eating out expect to struggle for a table between 6 & 8 pm at weekends, with 3 camp sites in area it gets busy.
This is the cheaper of two sites at Hawkshead which take caravans & is though not the cheapest I've stayed at it's reasonably priced at £19 for 2 adults, 2 dogs plus electric.
Biggest concern & would I think put me off staying at Hawkshead again with a caravan is the B road in, it's very narrow for 1-2 miles with many blind bends leading to some heart stopping moments even at low speed trying to keep the van out of the hedge & on coming traffic. Had to rely on vehicles to stop on many occasions & some of them didn't for us to squeeze through.

The village of Hawkshead is beautiful with lots of lovely dog friendly pubs and shops and only a short walk from the site.
Small site mainly for tents with a potholed piece of concrete by washblock that they call the hardstanding, right by a busy road and the farmers tractor garage, we were put there in our motorhome as the owners thought we would be too heavy for the grass.
Mainly in the mornings but through the day also, the people staying in tents were driving up in their cars parking right outside of our door to go get showers! we couldn't believe it they were just using it like a car park, yet we and 3 others had paid to be there! It was so dangerous for young kids who were in the caravan opposite us, their mum was constantly on edge watching them. Its not even a large site and a couple of mins walk up the hill to the wash block - the owners really need to stop that practice, never saw anyone around to discuss or point it out to.
The washblock was modern clean with plenty hot water, with just a few well enforced rules and some maintenance to the 'hardstandings' it would be a gem of a site, as Hawkshead itself and the sites location is perfect.

The other site in Hawkshead was fully booked but we managed to find a pitch at Hawkshead Hall Farm instead. From the moment we arrived I knew it would be great!
It caters more for 'proper' camping with just a few electric hookups and only one or two hard standing areas. This suited us fine as I much prefer the peace you get when not everyone is playing music and watching TV. In fact, although it got busy, it was one of the quietest sites I've ever stayed on.
There are no marked pitches, just keep at least 6 metres from the next tent or caravan ( they do enforce this, which is great as it means you always have a bit of space). The site is sloping but there are plenty of flat areas to pitch up.
The shower block is new and is fantastic. It is kept very clean and is well designed.
There is a lovely footpath from the site for the 1 km walk into the village itself where you'll find most of what you need.
I can't wait to go back!

This was our second weekend at Hawkshead Hall. As far as views are concerned you have excellent views no matter where you pitch.
Excellent value for money for the Lakes.
Loos/showers are excellent and my hubby reports favourably on the washing up area (no veg prep areas for us!).
Good choice from the milkman although some stuff is on next day delivery - didn't take too much notice if they sell papers - but there's an idea for the future. A site we used to go to in West Lancashire orders them in for the next day collection and payment.
Even when we used to tent camp I would never dream of going to the village in the car just for the daily, never in the VW.
