Stayed for a glorious week in the lakes, only thing that let it down was the fact that the hard standing for caravan is actually the car park for the site. So anyone enquiring about availability of pitches on site park up all around you and combined with the dry weather there's a nice dust cloud every time someone drove past. Had we not paid up front we would have moved on. There were two electric hook ups further into the grass but occupied, and these pitches looked far more pleasant.
Lovely walk into the village along the stream, plenty of paddling opportunities.
Although situated on roadside, it does quieten in the evening.

Stayed for a week of glorious sunshine on this site. Picked it after studying reviews of both this and The Croft at Hawkshead. Grassed level / sloping site - pitch where you like. £14 per night for 2 people, car and 4 man tent. Toilets and showers housed in a portacabin - spotless, cleaned daily, plenty of loo roll and free showers; the shower curtains seemed to be replaced every day! Open sided barn housing five washing up sinks and large freezer for freezer packs (free). Access via gate at the bottom of site, along permitted footpath into village (5-10 mins walk) where there are 4 pubs (all doing food), a variety of outdoor/gift shops and a Co-op for supplies. Quiet, family site with views over surrounding countryside - only noise was the cows, sheep and a few early morning tractors. Regular bus service goes past the site providing access to Windermere, Ambleside and Coniston. A few hardstanding and electric hook up pitches - looked like the farmer was creating some additional hardstanding areas towards the bottom of the site. Would definitely stay again - perfect location for us.

Lovely site in a quiet location. As others have said, the washrooms and pot wash area are spotless and there was always hot water.
The site is on a field which is level in areas but quite a few slopes in others. However, this wasn't a problem as they insist on plenty of room for everyone so you could pick a good spot.
Hawkshead is within easy walking distance (10mins), with shops and four pubs. We ate in the Sun Inn, good pub food and the Kings Arms, fantastic food. Both allow dogs in the bar. Also worth the 15 min walk to is the Outgate Inn (go the other direction from the campsite, and look out for the public footpaths that run in the fields along side the road) the food here was wonderful and good value. Again, dogs allowed in the bar (and children!)
We will definitely go back as the campsite is good and the walks around the area are wonderful.

The campsite is in a beautiful area and the owners are really friendly and helpful. We arrived on the wed before bank hol weekend so was able to choose our pitch. The campsite was set on a slight incline so wouldn't like to be arriving there late as the choice of pitch wouldn't be great.
The toilets were spotless and were cleaned several times a day, although there were only 4 ladies loos and 2 showers so I imagine they can get dirty very easily when its full.
When we left on the Saturday of the bank holiday, the site was full but it was quiet from 10pm onwards and there was still loads of room between tents.
I do feel it was a bit pricey for the facilities it had, the pot washing area was spotless too however £17.50 a night is a bit pricey for a basic campsite.
Overall, lovely site and would go back again.

This was the first time I have been camping in many years and I had my 12 yr old son with me - we had an excellent time here - the facilities were excellent - pitches were as you chose - but do be careful for the odd boggy spot! clean washrooms, toilets and washing up areas, easy to use, no hidden charges. Apart from the very heavy rain - we had a brilliant three days and will happily return, a well as telling others!
Hawkshead is an easy walk across the field with good shops etc, safe enough for my son to go alone- I do not recommend stopping in the first pub though!
We walked from the site to the tops of the surrounding hills - and could have gone a lot further weather permitting.
Do watch out for the exit from the site - blind corners!

This is a lovely campsite set out over a large feild. The toilet / shower facilities are a porta cabin and are immaculate, always stocked with toilet roll! The bins are emptied regular and the site as a whole is very clean and tidy. Hawkshead village is about 1/2 a mile walk with plenty of pubs. Ideal location for mountain biking through Grizedale forest and also near to the larger towns. The owners never allow the site to become overcrowded which means you never feel like your crammed in as there is plenty of room. You can book in advance if you are staying for two nights or more if not its on a first come first served basis. I would highly reccomend this site. The owners also do regular rounds of the site throughout the day and night to make sure there is no problems / loud music etc.

This is a lovely site. We arrived here on the Friday night having booked for a 3 night stay. The sign said 'site full' but it didnt appear to be that way, which was great. They seem to have a limit on the number of units, regardless of size, allowed and when they get to that number they stop allowing people in. I would strongly recommend booking during peak times. The toilets/showers are in a porta cabin and are a little limited, only 2 showers for the gents, so you may have to queue sometimes. The toilets / showers themselves are very clean. The site is only a five minute walk across the field into Hawkshead village which has lots of good pubs and shops selling almost everything. The campsite itself does have a few slopes so a late arrival may find a bit of rolling around in your sleeping bag. There is a milkman that visits every morning around 10.30 selling most fresh dairy produce. The kids waited for him each morning as if he was Santa! The campsite is very well kept but I would recommend a few more bins around the place so we dont have to walk so far. There are a number of water points around the site and a covered washin up area. The site is perfectly situated for walking and cycling. We spent 2 days doing both in Grizedale Forest 5 miles away. The kids loved this site. It is a lovely family site, No groups allowed, with a noise curfew that seemed to be kept. It is a working farm so you are likely to be woken to the noise of the cows or sheep early in the morning. We will visit again and would highly recommend.

This was my first time camping. We went as a couple and my partner hadn't camped for a number of years. We obviously looked like the novices that we are as a couple of friendly people came and helped us erect our tent. We would still be there now if they hadn't!
Fantastic views from the site. Facilities basic but spotless ( and I am VERY fussy!) Seemed to be mainly families. A little noisy but what do you expect with kids running about. Site is advertised as families only but it appeared a couple of groups had slipped through the net! They were very rowdy during the day but quietened down later which is all you can ask - live and let live!
Would definitely recommend for a couple of nights stay. We ate at The Sun Inn in Hawkshead Village and it was good value pub grub!

The toilet and shower block on the site are kept very clean, hot water and plenty of toilet paper. Washing up block is clean and under cover for when it is raining. The owners are very helpful. The prices are indicated on a board when you enter the site together with a few rules. The only caution being the entrance you have to be very careful on the narrow road when walking as it is on a blind corner. Within walking distance of Hawkshead where the food can be expensive. We have been to this site before and will definitely be coming again. Brilliant.

The campsite had basic showers and toilets but they were clean and hygienic. The campsite owners were very hospitable and even found us a place to pitch even though it was fully booked. The campsite does have quite a few slopes but flat pitches can also be found. The views at the campsite were spectacular and it's only five minutes walk into Hawkshead town. Showers are free, as is electricity for hairdryers etc. There are cafes, shops and pubs all nearby. The Queen's Head offers the best pub food. It's moderately expensive but the food is delicious. Beatrix Potter's house is just a short walk away. We would not hesitate to go back again for another stay in the near future. The pricing is very good - just £12.50 per night for two adults, car and tent - even in peak season. Highly recommended.
