Just returned from an excellent 6 night stay in the lower field next to the fishing lake (happy hubby!). A great, quiet family site, brilliant and clean toilets and showers, a good play area and family friendly bar that our 6 year old loved. Games room for older kids, plus Wii handsets for hire, good takeaway on site too. The staff very helpful and friendly, good facilities for those with dogs and generous pitches where we were (no hook up). A 20 minute walk to Berrynarbor village (left out of site) takes you to The Globe, a family friendly pub with good quality reasonably priced food and an indoor play area for smaller children. We'll definitely go back next year for longer, there's so much to do in the area. The only minor gripe was that the sinks were too small to sit a baby in, but the showers too hot. Perfect for a quiet break.

We stayed here for a week with our 3 children during the school holidays. On arrival reception wasn't open but they had left out details of our pitch so that wasn't a problem.
The site is nice, the fishing lake and stream are picturesque unfortunately we were pitched opposite the static caravans so not so pretty.
The play area is great for the kids and well maintained. Our kids spent every evening in the park, then in the stream, then played football, then back to the caravan to ask for a £1 for the air hockey table (that got you three games and 15 mins peace and quiet!). The wii room was also reasonable, they haven't got loads of games but it was £1 to play in there for 45 mins so a complete bargain we thought.
We didn't take our dog but there was a dedicated pretty area to walk dogs. The shower room was a bit hit and miss, it was a wet week so it was extremely muddy.
I didn't find the showers hot enough and you really cannot keep your clothes and towels etc dry as there isn't any room. The washing up room was ample but untidy with random bits of leftover washing piled up on the window sill.
I have to say though the site overall was nice, the shop wasn't over priced, we didn't use the pub or takeaway but this was mainly because the takeaway didn't open til the Thursday which seemed odd seeing as it was high season.
We found the owner to be friendly - I even sent my son on a very wet day to get the phone number for the local cinema and he came back with a 5 page computer printout of the listings and times for the cinema!
The area is lovely but you do have to drive practically everywhere. We used the pub at the end of the road which was fine and we spent a day in Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, Saunton and Croyde so great for a base to explore.
We would definitely stay again as our kids loved it!

Just got back from a week at this site, situated between Ilfracombe and Coome Martin.
It has 2 shower blocks, the older one being larger.
On site pub open every evening during peak season, very quiet and reasonably priced. Fish n Chip take away open Thurs - Sunday. Saw Mill Pub 200 yrds away serving food, main courses range between £8 - £13.
Limited freeview reception, only a small number of pitches allow for satellite reception.
Pitches vary from mainly flat to needing blocks on the lower numbered pitches.
Staff extremely helpful and courteous.
Fishing on the lake seemed extremely popular and at only £2 per day was excellent value or money. Play area for children near to site office was always busy while we were on site but children impeccably behaved.
Best route is through Barnstaple and Ilfracombe the A399 via Coome Martin will offer the most experienced driver a challenge on some of the sharp bends. Tesco just outside Ilfracombe, mini market open most evenings till 11. 00pm in Coome Martin for emergencies.
Anyone wanting a challenging walk should follow the coastal path to Ilfracombe not for the faint hearted but great views. A site we would re-visit

We had a pitch with electric hook up which was useful but not worth the pitch size, as we have a 7mx5. 8m tent so our door was literally on the road and the back of the tent was almost in a shallow ditch from the taps that was water logged. In hind sight it it would have been better for us at the other end of the site where it was an open field with more space.
The facilities were ok with park, chippy, bar, shop, games room, family room(never open) etc. The park was nice but has a stream running through with no fence next to a road which is worrying with small children. The campsite is on a narrow windy lane so can be risky walking to the main road for the bus stop or local restaurant in the dark.
Can recommend Watermouth castle just round the corner for young families with children up to the age of 10. Local beach is within driving distance or Woolacombe is slightly further.

It didn’t stop raining for the first 4 days we were here and although our pitch didn’t get too waterlogged there were a few around us that did however these were empty at the time. The pitches are a fair size however ours seemed shorter (it was on a corner) than others and so there was no space to sit outside the tent when the sun did come out.
The toilets near the reception area got quite muddy with the wet weather…a mat or something to wipe your feet on as you walked in would probably solve this. Also the shower cubicles had no benches, and no curtains, or gutters so it were quite difficult to keep your clothes/towels dry whilst showering, and even harder to get dried and dressed in them as the floor stayed wet. The toilets and shower block near the lake were a lot bigger so wouldn’t have this problem.
It also seems that there is no quiet time at night and so there were large groups making quite a bit of noise until the early hours. Not much of an issue for us but something to consider if you have young children.
The site is a very pretty site and the groundsman kept the outside areas very neat and tidy. Overall we enjoyed our ten days here however we have been to better and so probably wouldn’t return.

Had a very nice 4night stay, weather was not good and had rain for the 1st 3days so the ground got a bit slushy underfoot which soon got dry with the sun on it
. Very good site, the newer shower block is very very good, but I feel the two blocks does req some deep clean behind doors and walls.
Staff I could not fault, pub on site very good with good price on the drinks. Take away was not open but was opening on our last night, menu looked good again good price.
Very good on site shop.
Value for money site and will be going back to soon.
Tesco 15min away and site just off the main road so easy access to all destinations.
No problem in recommending this site for all inc dog lovers, nice and quiet and the road noise was not a problem.

Just come back from spending 7 days at this site, very clean site best showers are next to fishing lake plenty of hot water and very clean and plenty of room, club house was very nice good for those with children prices not to bad, never used takeaway as opened the day we went home, shop was alright.
We were in the centre field which was on a bit of a slope and looked onto empty caravans felt little dead, but the lakeside field looked really lovely would pitch there next time, most of the staff were friendly but the barman was a little grumpy but maybe he was having a bad day and just wanted to finish his shift.
Our children are grown up now so it was just me hubby and dog but this is a great site for kids play park looked good and safe and they do have a chill out room which was not open when we went,
nice dog walk with poo bins and loads of rabbits kids would love them, we had three ducks every morning and evening that would come right up to our tent and eat the bread out of our hands
I loved it but not everyone's joy !

We have just got back after a four night stay. When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly man at reception and were given a choice of hard standing or grass. Seeing we hadn't booked we opted for grass with mains hook up. Our pitch was very spacious considering we have a large unit.
The site is very pretty and well maintained. The bar and takeway were only opened fri/sat night since it was out of season, but looked very nice all lit up fri night.
The toilets were spotless as were the showers which were very warm. The shop was nicely stocked and the shop in the nearby village of Berrynarbor was also well stocked with very friendly staff.
Ilfracombe is only a short drive away and is ice cream heaven with car parking at the swimming pool car park only being £1.60 all day and the walk around Hillborough fort having amazing views.
Slightly further afield is the valley of the rocks which is well worth a visit
This is a campsite which I can`t wait to return to whilst it was one of the cheaper sites which we have visited it was worth every penny and neither of us really wanted to leave

Stayed here for over the Royal Wedding weekend. This is the 2nd time we have stayed over a bank holiday weekend and we were nicely surprised that once again the site was so quiet.
Positives about this site:
Always seems clean and tidy
Pitches are nice and big
Quiet area
Fishing lake
Bar on site
Good pub with good food within walking distance
Good toilet and shower facilities
Good value for money
Negatives:
No where to refreeze your ice packs
No site wardens - once reception is closed that's it - one night (7pm) the toilet block had run out of loo roll and it wasn't refilled until the following morning, despite informing the bar.
We will return to this site again, but not until we are better equipped to have electric hook-up

Just back from a 5 night stay. Loved it. Found this site a lovely retreat with a small fishing lake in a woodland setting, hidden away from the main road. Great play area for children. With a shallow clear stream running through it. I can imagine this being great fun in summer for the kids. Showers/toilets clean. Staff very helpful. We were very lucky with the weather for October, very mild. Spacious pitches. Easy access for the caravan. Good access point for visiting other areas. Will def be coming back next year.
