Helpful staff. Spacious camp-site. We were on a good-sized hard standing pitch handy for the freshwater tap. The site manager pitched us in the first field as he said there was a large group of French cyclists in the far field, and, as we needed to be able to come back fairly late in the evening after visiting our son, we didn't want to be disturbing anyone. Facilities are modern and clean - perhaps a few more loos/basins would be useful in high season, but we had no problem as it was before the schools broke up for summer. Horam is right on the doorstep, with shops and pubs, and Heathfield is just up the road for Sainsburys, etc. A good location for touring the area - good for cycling, etc. We will return - pity they are not open all year!

This is a small site with the majority of camping in an open sloping field although there are a number of level pitches at the top and at the bottom. A pitch at the edges of the field will give more privacy and shelter from winds although the very top is exposed with a barbed wire fence between the site and a large playing field. Some people had used windbreaks along the fence to give them some protection.
We were camped in the middle of the field and on a noisy Bank Holiday weekend we were very closely sited to our neighbours on all four sides. It is up to the individual which way you choose to face your van or tent.
The smaller field near reception is where the all-weather pitches are and those sited along the short main route do not have very much room between them. If you have a van, awning and car there is not much room for anything else and it has constant foot and vehicle traffic running closely by. I wouldn’t be terribly happy if I was pitched here.
We used the older toilet block (without the coded entry) which was a bit rough round the edges. I understand the facilities in the new block are much better. The three showers suffer from low water pressure and they could do with a proper shelf on which to put belongings. There were a lot of (friendly and helpful) staff around so I wonder why an effort wasn’t made to keep the toilets cleaner.
It was the first time I’ve ever seen queues for washing-up facilities. The four sinks in a very small room weren't enough for the amount of people on site.
We didn’t try the Lakeside Café but enjoyed the food at the nearby pub – the May Garland, just a short walk away.

Stayed in wet weather the bank holiday weekend.
Site absolutely fine.
Unfortunately sited adjacent to a family who persisted in watching faulty towers into the evening at full volume. Weird, haven't we seen them all enough times that we can have a break from TV when camping?
Apart from them we met several v nice families. Good for dogs and children etc

Staff were very friendly and helpful. All-weather pitch was level and clean, with a grass area next to the motorhome stand. The site was very quiet (except for bird-song and occasional quacking ducks!) Toilets, showers, etc. Were spotlessly clean and well-maintained.
The Cuckoo Trail is a beautiful walk or bike ride, either through quiet countryside southbound or a quiet route into Heathfield northbound. The only unpleasant part is the 5 minute walk from the campsite into Horam along the A267, which is quite busy with trucks and vans.
If you are a dog-owner it is a paradise for your dog, with a huge recreation ground next to the campsite, where your dog can run free, well away from the road and over well-mown grass where balls don't get lost.
The pub 'May Garland Inn' is 5-10 minutes walk south of the campsite, and has good local atmosphere and excellent pub-grub. Well-behaved dogs are permitted.

We stayed for a 'test night' in April, we were the only tent to brave it! We had the choice of several pitches so chose a large, slightly sheltered, spot in the first field.
There was an open weekend at the very nearby 'Farm'. Here there is a Cafe serving a very wide-choiced menu, fishing and a stables as well as a small Museum of local history and a nature trail.
The shower facilities were superb! I love the idea of a coded entrance to keep it warm. Only trouble I had twice is the toilet rolls get stuck and won't come out so you get 'caught out'.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, very jolly! The surroundings are lovely, with woodland nearby but also a very useful village with Newsagent, Village Store, Biker Cafe, Petrol Station, car repair Garage even a Natural Therapies Centre!
All in all a lovely location and site.

Just returned from our third camping trip to Horam in the past month and felt compelled to write about the Fabulous time had on each occasion. Wardens Tracey And Fez provide a warm welcome and work incredibly hard to ensure that the park runs smoothly. The site was spotless at all times, plenty of hot water, laundry and dishwashing facilities. There is a large recreation ground next to the site which is great for dog walking and my boys enjoyed the freedom of being able to play. All in all a wonderful time had and looking forward to our next visit already!

Very nice family campsite. Very nice facilities.
Regarding the previous comment, we were on site the same time the 3 Travellers were enjoying a holiday also.
They were very well presented, very well behaved and very polite.
And had barbecues with the neighbouring campers.
So I don't really know why they were brought into this review?
At times on most campsites, you will always get a few families who are completely, rude, and have no respect for others.
And these were dealt with as soon as the wardens had been made aware, which was a few days, as they were not notified before.

This site had the potential be one of the best site we had stopped at, first impressions were the site look great very clean and well laid out. The wardens are very friendly and helpful showing us to our level good sized pitch. The facilities can only be called spotless nearly brand new very well kept with loads of hot water the village of horam is a lovely little village, all this meant nothing because we packed up and leaving for home with 7 days of our holiday still to go the reason being 5 traveller families being allowed on site and also a group of 13 people in tents spoiling our holiday with the bad language, disgusting behaviour etc. We weren't the first to leave early because of them. In my opinion this should have been nipped in the bud and not allowed to go on for the three days we were there.

Friendly well run camp site two friendly wardens, Clean toilet & showers. Nice café on site the the lake side café food was very good. Few shops in village & also good pub the may garland. Plenty to do in the area, will return again. Some constructive criticism not many rules but some needed 1/some speed humps to slow cars on site & some speed signs. 2/some control of use of bikes all over the place & no lights on bikes after dark, there is an accident waiting to happen as we witnessed on 8 night stay at this site.

I'd like to say that we have just spent one of the best weeks in our caravanning history at Horam. The site is fantastic, we loved our plot, I think it was no 56, at one point we were the only caravan surrounded by tents on that field, the kids loved it as it was all grass and the small play area was close by where the children met and made friends. And I think other parks should take note that, for the price, it is possible to provide hot dish washing water, showers that don't need pressing every couple of seconds OR need additional payment and a first class elsan point, I have never seen such a clean one. I didn't visit the newer shower block (my girls did out of curiosity) I was told it was lovely but I found the old! block immaculate. Great too to have a washing machine and dryer on site and even a communal rotary drier, what a good idea. I'm a big fan of recycling so was so pleased to see that available on site too, I just wish other campers could either read or be courteous enough not to put general waste (salad not in a bag. ) into the clearly labelled recycling bin.
Horam is a short walk for the morning paper and essentials. We also walked along the Cuckoo Trail and enjoyed the walk in the woods and around the fishing pools.
Sussex is a long way for us (in Staffordshire) but if we ever chose to caravan your way again, we will definitely be booking in. Oh and the staff were very polite and helpful from start to finish.
