We booked at really short notice however it did not create too much of a problem, uncertain of how long we were going to stay for we booked in for two nights. When we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by the site manageress, she was really friendly and helpful.
When we arrived the weather was wet however it did not spoil the overall appearance of the site which was very clean, tidy and it has a most impressive toilet block which is brand new and immaculately clean. Access is controlled with an electronic key code, within the toilet block there is a family room, disable toilets and a laundrette.
We booked an electric hook-up point which included a tv aerial point, if you don't have an ariel cable you can hire one for a small £10 deposit.
The site is a short walk from the Devil's Bridge and impressive waterfalls which incur a cost £3. 75 and £1. 00 respectfully but well worth a visit. Wear sensible footwear but take my advice neither are suitable for dogs. Just past the Devil's Bridge is the Hafod Hotel, we had a very nice meal there during our stay, good food, especially the steak, and very reasonably priced.
A little further into the village is the Vale of Rheidol Railway, a Steam train journey to Aberystwyth takes about one hour, which provides for a great day out on a wonderful steam engine. Railcards are accepted.
At the entrance to the site are The Woodland Tea Rooms which serves some excellent food and take away fish and chips on at least one evening a week, you can sit outside on the tables to eat. For those that have withdrawal symptoms this is the free site WiFi zone.
On site there are some wonderful walks of varying standards for which mapping is available from the Reception, keep your eyes peeled because it is almost guaranteed that you will see Red Kites.
A number of reviews mention a problem with midges, thankfully we did not experience them however we never go anywhere without insect repellent.
We extended our stay by an extra night and overall we had a fabulous three days at The Woodlands Caravan Park and this rates as one of the best sites we have stayed at. I would unreservedly highly recommend this site for it's location, friendly wardens and friendliness to all.

Amaze-Bogs, as described by my eleven year old daughter. They have spent £250, 000 on the new facilities block - Wow!
Anyway about the rest of the site and the surrounds.
Lots of space for the kids with at least three play areas. The Table tennis room was a real plus too.
We were here over the BH weekend. It never felt too busy. The site had a real mix of motor homes, Tourers, and tenters which was nice. We don't like the regimented rows of tourers you find at some sites.
The established woodland makes the setting fabulous.
Must do's - The waterfalls - not for the infirm or those nervous of heights. But the sense of achievement when you get round is great - and you exit by the Hafod Arms pub where you must go for a much needed drink!
Kite feeding - the best free show I have had in years!
Shopping - The on site café sells papers, milk and bread but not much else. There is a Premier at the BP garage on the main road to Aberystwyth.
Aberystwyth has Morrisons, Lidl, etc. About 20 minutes drive away.
Eating out - didn't try the Hafod for food but friends ate there twice and gave good reviews.
The café at the Kite Centre served terrific food.
The on site café? Not to the standard of the others.
Overall would we come back? To the area? yes, to Woodlands? yes.

We stayed for one night at the start of July. We booked at really short notice (on the day we were due to arrive). The manager was really friendly and helpful.
The site is clean, tidy and has the best toilet block I've ever seen on a campsite. They are brand new with an electronic key code, family room, disable toilets. Really posh!
The electric hook-up points also have a tv aerial point, you can borrow a tv aerial lead for a £10 deposit.
The site is walking distance to Devils Bridge and a little further is the Vale of Rheidol Railway.
The site is 12 miles away from Aberystwyth, as we had other plans it was perfect for one night but if you plan to commute to Aberystwyth it may be a bit far. Otherwise I can't fault it.

What a lovely site this was! So very reasonably priced too!
A lovely drive to the site from the coast. We booked this site at very short notice and on arrival we felt very welcomed. A map was provided and an explanation of the toilet block key code entrance was given.
We stayed in the basic pitches with no hook up. Lovely views on a well maintained area. Even the touch of installing a cycle shed was great.
As for the facilities! WOW! That toilet and shower block could put some hotels to shame. Heated, clean, free showers and even a hair dryer! What a difference this made. After nearly 2 weeks touring Wales this became our favourite site and we hope to return in summer!
The only downside was the midges! Oh the midges! - they were evil and seemed immune to the insect repellent. In fact I think they loved it! So be prepared!

To start off with the owners, upon calling to book, were very lovely, helpful and accommodating. Upon arrival, we were met by Victoria, who was really attentive, explaining everything we needed to know, and what was in the area.
This campsite is divided into 2 sections - one for the statics (in the lower part); and up a small hill to the tourer/ tent section. Both sections have a great little play area.
We stayed in the upper section in our VW campervan and awning, on 16amp hookup. We had a lovely pitch, a choice of 2 upon arrival. The facilities really are perfect - with a new all purpose built toilet/ shower/ washing up facility. Everything in the campsite has been developed to a very high standard. In this upper area, there is access to the surrounding hills and a small woodland which our kids enjoyed playing in.
As for the location - it really is lovely - a great position. Onsite, in the lower part, is a tea-room, which also hosts a small shops for things your may need, including BBQ's (useful for the midgies).
Devil's Bridge and the Waterfall walk is just 7 minutes walk from the campsite. The walk is down a main road, so be careful with little ones. The walk itself (for about £10 for a family of 4) is beautiful and well worth the money). It takes a good hour to get around. There is a very steep descent and ascent back up. It is not for the feint hearted, or for very small children, but my 7 and 9 year old managed better than me. I'm unfit, but still managed it.
Further along the road from the Waterfall walk, is the Rheidol Train station, which provides for a great day out on a wonderful steam engine. It is a 1 hour trip down the valley to Aberystwyth. Be aware that the first train from Devil's Bridge doesn't leave until 12. 30pm, but this does give you enough time in Aberystwyth, before leaving to get the train back up the valley.
The Red Kite Feeding Centre is 10/15 minutes away. There are a couple of short walks available around a small lake where you can spot Red Kites. The main highlight is between 2-3pm (check for up-to-date timings), when they feed the Red Kites. This is great, there are several areas to view from. You should get there early to park though. Small parking charges only apply.
The Silver Mountain Experience, about 15 minutes away is worth a 3-4 hour trip out. There are 3 'tours' to choose from (adult, teen 12+, and children).
The Hafod Forest walks are simply not to be missed if you like walking. The parking is free (!) and in the car park, if you are lucky, are leaflets for the walks. There are several walks to choose from, for all abilities, and the scenery is stunning!
Finally, the beach at Ynyslas is also something not to be missed. The main car park is right at the end (past the 'dead end' signs), keep going, past the golf courses, and you end up parking on the beach. Once parked, you pay at the Visitor Centre, and the beach is actually around from the car park - a huge beach, it would never get busy.
Overall - a great week at Woodlands Caravan Park. The weather was variable, but we still enjoyed it.

Lovely location near the waterfall walk, and a good pub serving local beers and good food!
Also excellent location not far from Nant-yr-Arian to see the red kites at feeding time and the excellent walking and mountain biking trails there, which we took advantage of.
Quiet site with good facilities (toilets and showers clean), would revisit and recommend to others wanting to visit this area.
There appears to be a new shower block that has been built since our visit too.

We love walking and touring in beautiful countryside; we love a quiet and pretty site offering some shade and with reasonable & clean facilities; and we love being welcomed by friendly staff. On these grounds Woodlands hits perfection. We were there for 5 nights.
Ah, the midges. Staff told us about them when we arrived, and would have been happy for us to book one day at a time. The midges were certainly out in force mid-July this year, and eventually some got to us despite our usual defence of Avon's 'skin-so-soft'. Some Scottish campsites stock this product, and we have recommended Woodlands consider doing so for the benefit of the un-prepared.
A recent reviewer has said there was no waste facility at the touring field - when we were there a large bin was alongside the facilities block - the one which is due to be superceded by the nearly-completed new block.
We don't use electric hook-up and loved the non-EHU field. Rather difficult to find both shade and a level pitch on this field, though. The EHU field had many levelled and spacious pitches.
Being non-EHU we rely on the daily cycling of freezer blocks, and although just in Woodland's high season facilities for these left a lot to be desired due to the limited shop hours. The owners went the second mile to help us, though - greatly appreciated given the hot weather.
There are at least two lovely walks directly from the campsite. We plan our walks from the OS Landranger, but be aware that even the special routes can present problems due to lack of maintenance. A section beside the Mynach became impassable - an extensive ill-drained patch - such that we chose to wade across to the Northern bank and make our way back to our outgoing path. Several paths we used were not well maintained or marked. Come on Ceredigion!
If we were to return to this area we would definitely return to Woodlands, and are recommending it to family & friends. It is probable that the present facilities come under pressure in the school holidays particularly in that there were only two dish-wash sinks. It is to be hoped that the new block will provide double this number.

This is a lovely site but I think has one or two problems. Toilets basic and not very clean at times, but seemingly new ones are on the way. The rubbish bins are kept at the the bottom of a steep hill, no bins on touring site level. Midges a nightmare morning and evening they are relentless. Lot of people left after one night. Apart from that tearoom fine staff good attractions roundabout good. I'm afraid I will not hurry back.

Our first visit to this site.
I'm surprised that it only has 8/10 overall. I suppose that may be due to the temporary toilet/shower units (portacabin), but they are still good. The new toilet block seems to be making good progress, and it looks very smart.
One of the best sites I have stayed at, anywhere. Beautiful situation. Friendly staff. Quiet. Secure. Near Devil's Bridge village. Loved the art-work (animal statues) around the site, as well as the quirky use of old road-signs. The Woodland Tea Rooms next to reception does really excellent take-away fish and chips on at least one evening a week (you can sit outside on the tables to eat).
I will definitely be going back.

A lovely site! Well situated in some beautiful scenery and so quiet, if you don't count the sheep. A great base to explore from including the vale of rheidol railway and Aberystwyth. Site was clean and friendly new toilet block being built while we were there but old one clean and functional. A great shop/cafe on site recommend the breakfast.
