Stayed for a long weekend.Only for units on site during our trip.Lovely walks around the woods with secret play areas and a big lake!
Went to see Santa with our 3 year old-a lovely atmosphere especially if you go in the evening when everything is lit up. Train ride is a joy and so is santa's grotto, with individual visits to santa for the kids. Adults are even treated to a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie.
Visited the town of Frome and had a lovely meal at the Mason's Arms, located on the outskirts of the town. Frome also has a children's indoor soft play area located near the railway station called 'junction 21'
Well worth a visit, toilet blocks very good, the only downside being the water points were frozen up during our visit!

We stayed on the caravan club CL part of the site, 5 vans on the edge of the main camping area, with trees everywhere. Lots of woodland walks, a nice visitor center /cafe , this site has a lot to offer.
Shower blocks are clean and well kept. There is a narrow gauge train ride from the car park to a adventure playground deep in the heart of the woods, a great place to unwind. Away from the park Longleat is only 6 miles away and the local area is steeped in history - well worth a visit

We love this site! This was our first attempt at camping as a family and we have well and truly got the bug. We live fairly close to the site so were already aware of their superb country park and play areas so thought we would stay close for our first expedition.
We stayed during a busy peak weekend but the site never felt over-run with people, the pitches are huge and there is so much for the kids to do you need not leave the site all weekend!
The longest we ever had to wait for showers was 2 minutes and even though we were the furthest from the toilets - it is still only a 3 minute walk! On the Saturday night we hired the family bathroom for the bargain price of £2 so the kids had a good soak in the bath. There was plenty of rain but the site was never waterlogged - no mean feat when set in a forest!
The only drawback I can see is that as annual members to the country park, there is no discount for camping there. But we will definitely be returning!

Lovely site. Initially thought that they could do with more showers and sinks - (I still think a few more would not go amiss) - but did find that we didn't have to wait long to wash up and hardly ever for a shower.
Shop is relatively basic but does offer simple stocks. However, it is well staffed and they are all polite and friendly. Hours could have been more helpful though in terms of the fact that it may be your only option if you have no car.
Entrance keycode was no problem, though there can be a long queue when someone doesn't have one.
Pitch was a good size and power was no problem at all, unlike some sites which have the traditional teatime/early evening fluctuations.
The playground for the children was excellent and the woods gave plenty of scope for a walk and keeping kids occupied via frequent climbing frames and activities etc.
Longleat is close but you are well placed for Cheddar, Wells, Haynes museum etc so plenty to do.
Watch out for the camping shop in Trowbridge that is listed on site. It is well stocked but also quite pricey.
All in all a relaxing break and a very good, very clean site.

Had a great weekend here. Booked it for its closeness to Longleat but also had young niece (nearly 5) with us, so seemed and was ideal. The check-in was speedy and friendly.
The shop was mainly a gift shop (including a good selection of pocket money toys) but also had some camping essentials. We only sampled tea and cakes at the cafe (very nice) but it's worthwhile knowing that, in season, they do a fish and chips take-way on Friday evenings until I think 8.30
Reasonably sized pitches and facilities (elec, water etc) all within easy reach. The showers were clean and hot with nice decor, but not numerous enough, I would say, for the number of people there. Could do with a block at both ends?
We ate at the Half Moon at Rudge - a bit pricey we thought but nice enough.
As we no longer have young children ourselves we would probably not go back as we found it amazingly noisy - kids enjoying themselves mainly so not a problem. Just not right for our life stage!

Yes this site is perfect if you are visiting Longleat & the surrounding area. It's centrally located and in walking distance of a couple of pubs if you want them. We ate in the Kicking Donkey which was good, but the beer wasn't much to write home about. I'm a fussy Yorkshireman, so maybe I'm hard to please when it comes to Real Ale.
The site has all the usual amenities and they are all good. I would agree with some posts that the site needs more toilets/showers as they can get busy, however I used the new block at the rear of the old block and this one seemed much quieter.
The country park is a bit of a dubious title. Yes it's in the country and yes it is a park, but I would have been severly dissapointed if I had paid for a day pass to it as there's not much more than a lake, some nice walks and a couple of play parks for the kids. Maybe it's work in progress, but I think the owners want to portray the park as something grander than it is.
All in all we had a good break and would return, but not for a day visit.

Just returned from a weekend away here. Picked this site due to being very close to Longleat (20 mins away)
The site is flat and large pitches. We had electric hookup however not a lot of them. The toilet and shower blocks were very clean, and very warm in the evening when it got slightly cooler. The washing up area was always clean and tidy only had to wait max 5 mins and the park was very busy.
There is a play are for the kids and plenty of grass areas for them the kick a ball around. The walks around the woods are great.
Will be coming back as this site is one of the best around these parts.

Enjoyed our weekend here. Arrived on Friday evening and pitched our tent.
Toilet block was very clean and showers were just perfect.
Lazy campers for the weekend, left all cooking facilities at home apart from BBQ (fri evening). Had breakfast in their Cafe which we all enjoyed.
Our 2 youngsters were able to play football and frisbee as there was a reasonable amount of space.
Pub down the road (a nice stroll) called the Kicking Donkey, did not eat but the beer was fine.
Drive away, The Bell served very good food which we did try.
We would recommend this site.

We've just come back from a week here.
The pitch was large (there seemed to be smaller ones near the road so worth mentioning if you have a big tent). My two boys enjoyed playing in the nearer park very much, there was another park a bit further away and a play trail which they also liked. We had nightly trips to the lake to feed the ducks and fish there. One evening hundreds of teeny frogs were crossing the road to the lake.
Cafe was nice, camping essentials in the gift shop. Bathrooms were of a high and clean standard - no queues went we went but I imagine there will be at holiday times. Nice and warm on a night although the timers are a bit annoying - a couple of times I was left showering / on the loo in the dark!
The information hut is comprehensive with leaflets for everything and directions to local camping shops / tescos etc.
We were near Longleat, a short easy drive and also visited Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Stonehenge, Bowood House and Gardens (lovely park for the boys. We also went into Bath and did some riding around looking at the white horses of Wiltshire.
We weren't overly impressed with the Kicking Donkey's food - ok but not specially good. As another poster said the Half Moon was lovely with very nice food but their septic tank did pong a little bit (could only smell it in the beer garden). We also went to Westbury which isn't that far away and has a pizza place, chinese, fish and chip shop and Tesco Express.

This was our first expedition camping as a family. Me, my wife and our 23 month old son. We wanted somewhere local to where we live with something to occupy the little one.
We were met by a very helpful lady when we checked who showed us everything we needed to know. The pitch was a good size (we have a Vango Gamma 450) and due to the time of year it wasn't busy.
The site is within a country park and the cost of camping included the price of entry to the park. It's very good for all ages including the young at heart.
The toilets and showers were spotless, there is even a bathroom which for a couple of quid you can utilise for half an hour of relative luxury.
The only slight downside was the road which runs at one edge of the field seemed to be used as a bit of a race track, but not the fault of the campsite.
