Lil' mallets: Hammering home some more truth! This campsite starts with 10 tent pegs for every bad point it loses one. Firstly, the toilets are rather clean but there was a smell of sewage in and around the toilets. The smell travelled across the campsite so don't get a pitch near the loo's! (2 tent peg lost) Secondly, the play area is great for kids! There are swings, slides, climbing frames and zip lines! There are also nice woodland walks where you can feed the ducks at the lake and there are play trails where you come across slides, climbing frames etc. Thirdly, you are quite close to other people. The tents and caravans are squashed in so you don't have much privacy. (1 tent peg lost) Fourthly, you are not allowed to ride bikes around the campsite! BE AWARE YOU DON'T KNOW THAT YOU CAN'T RIDE BIKES UNTIL YOU GET THERE! IT DOESN'T MENTION IT IN THE LEAFLET! (3 tent peg lost)! Fifthly, the train is fab! Kids love it but you have to pay £1 per person. You can take dogs on there and they are free. The train takes you to another adventure playground in the woods where there are more climbing frames zip lines etc. You get 2 tickets with your £1 so you can travel back from the adventure playground after you have played on it! Sixthly, the shop is really nice with pretty gifts. The sweets are priced normally but everything else is quite expensive! There is a cafe next to the shop which is quite expensive but it is a nice place to sit plus there is an outside area to sit and eat at! There are electric hook ups so you can take electric toys etc. Overall the campsite isn't the best for you if you want to ride bikes. The people can be very bossy about certain things to kids.

Good level pitches with a good play area for the kids. Toilet blocks very clean with good showers but cleaning times can be a bit inconvenient, 09:30 every morning there is another shower block available but it is not as nice. We stayed on one of the 5 CL pitches which made it very cheap but there is no lighting around these pitches so remember to take your torches. Excellent site for access to both Bath and Longleate (recommend Longleate as a day out).

I had really high expectations of this site - for a start its pricey, and its in an ancient forest . Actually its on a field on the edge of an adventure play area , in a little bit of wood , and next to a road, and on a flight path . It was also very busy , but we were aware it was full , it was during the torrential rain we have just had , and the field was waterlogged and very muddy - we were assured it was fine - it wasn't - the mud was so thick it came through the groundsheet lining after a week and it stank like a manure. However thats not my main complaint - there was just no room. The admin office which doubled as the forest entry office /shop and cafe never once checked the field , to see where you had pitched, the pitches were quite big , but not everyone stuck to them - we had people behind on a piece of grass by the road , practically on top of us . Theres also no warden ( although i'm not a warden fanatic) , its just that it was noisy , well into the early hours, and there was nothing you could do. - the people around were so close we could hear them breathe - to the back /front and sides so it often wasn't thier fault. , and the younger kids had to be taken to the playarea , because it was too out of site , and the tents were all crammed in - I liked the surroundings , but it was not mangaged at all and crowded.- they were also still saying the ground was ok , when people had moved on (and lossed money ) , because it was too muddy to stay.Disappointed , and won't be back.

On arrival the staff were very welcoming. After pitching the tent the children (age 8 and 6) had a brilliant time in the surrounding woods and on the adventure playground and loved the train ride. We had afternoon tea in the cafe. The menu looked lovely although we were too late to have a main meal as they stop serving at 3pm. In the evening we drove up to the White Horse overlooking Westbury. The views were stunning and the children did some more running around! They were thoroughly exhausted. We couldn't wake our daughter the following morning, and had to start putting the tent down around her! The showers and toilets were lovely and clean and I used the hair dryer at night and it was well worth the 20p! I cannot fault the site, the staff (including the train driver!) or the facilities. The only downside was the large group opposite; loud music and loud boring crude conversations until 2.00am. I expect a certain level of noise on a Saturday night but the rest of the campsite stuck to the guidelines so it was a pity. Luckily the all the positives outweigh this and we will be returning!

Group of three families spent three nights here in early May 07. Good Points. Large flat pitches, not too crowded, cafe, shop, children's park(s), train, woods, large pond full of fish, BBQ areas in Woods, kids trail in woods, no 'entertainment. Bad points. Electric points not regularly spaced in the part of the site we were in 25m + 10m cable only just reached. Sorry only thing I could think of! We had 6 kids aged 5 to 11, never saw them all day as they were off having adventures in the woods. We had good weather but things could be different if it was raining. Will return next year.

I’ve just spent 2 nights at this site and it is FANTASTIC. This is possibly the best campsite we have ever visited. When I phoned to make a reservation I spoke to a very friendly lady who seemed genuinely concerned with customer service. There is a late arrivals procedure at the site for customers who arrive after 5pm. We didn’t need to take advantage of this particular arrangement but the fact that I was openly offered this service in a courteous manner made us feel like we could have confidence in the how the site is run. When I explained that we would probably arrive just after lunch the lady said I could just take their phone number and call ahead for the late arrivals procedure if I changed my mind. My confidence boosted, I gritted my teeth and asked if we would be allowed to have a barbeque. What a refreshing response I received! Instead of the usual negativity, we were told this would be fine, as long as the barbeque was raised of the ground. We arrived a little later than anticipated after stopping at Avebury on the way. We received a warm welcome at reception and were provided with all the information we needed for our stay at Brokerswood. The entrance to the site has a gate which is operated by key-pad code to ensure the site remains private. The main site is a shared field for both tents and caravans which is sheltered on all sides by either hedge or woodland. There are also certified pitches in a separate wooded area which looked lovely. A road runs along just outside one edge of the field but it was surprisingly quiet and didn’t disturb our stay even though our pitch was on that side. There are both hard standing and grass pitches, the grass pitches having an inlaid concrete slab for caravan stabilizers. The pitches are generous and well tended and the site is well lit at night. There is a shop and a café. The shop is more like a gift shop than a basic supplies shop but they do have things like milk and newspapers. The café sells light bites and breakfast – I recommend the Full English! Everything is well signposted and there are some points of interest around the site like a small butterfly garden, for example. Recycling is actively encouraged and plastic recycling boxes are available to help you sort your rubbish. The shower block is clearly brand new and very well presented. In the ladies shower block there are 3 large shower cubicles with adequate pegs and a seat in each. The showers are free and there is always plenty of hot water. There are also 3 sink cubicles which offer privacy even if you are only brushing your teeth. There is a large baby changing area with sink and nappy disposal bin. The shower block is heated (warmer than our tent at night!) and the toilets have two levels of flush, in keeping with the environmentally friendly ethic of the site. There is a key-pad lock on the shower block doors to ensure that only residents of the site use them (rather than the day visitors to the wood). The shower block is spotlessly clean and there are alternative loos just inside the woodland park when the site loos are being cleaned. The owners ask that children under 12 are accompanied to the shower block and, in order to preserve water, are discouraged from playing with the taps on the site. There are 2 family shower rooms. We didn’t need these but I assume they are for whole groups, as the name suggests. There are water points around the site and washing up facilities outside the shower block. Electrical hook-up seems to be available to the majority of pitches, although we didn’t use it ourselves. You can have a barbeque at your pitch as long as it is raised of the ground and there are also barbeque facilities by the lake. The owners do ask that the site be kept quiet after 10:30 pm (although, as usual, some guests seemed to take this as a challenge rather than a request). The site is in a beautiful rural location and not far from Longleat. We had gone to the area mainly to visit Longleat and were able to buy reduced price tickets the campsite! The woodland is especially magical. On our first evening we went to explore the wood (at no extra charge). We didn’t see another soul during our whole walk which gives you an idea of how peaceful it is. Bluebells, woodpeckers and squirrels can be seen in the wood which is semi-ancient. There are brick built barbeque areas at two lakeside locations and lots of ducks, geese and a heron to keep you company (you can get duck food from the little shop). There are also children’s play areas and picnic areas. Visitors are not permitted to enter the woodland after dusk (again, some guests seemed to take this as a challenge rather than a request), I guess for safety reasons and because the water birds are on eggs. There is a cabin with tourist information including local maps and also a Woodland Heritage Centre. There is a traditional pub / restaurant called the Kicking Donkey within walking distance which has a beer garden and children’s play area. There were also several friendly dogs to watch us enjoying our hearty dinner. Slightly further, although still walking distance, is the Full Moon. This is a pub/restaurant which looks like it’s probably a bit posher than the kicking Donkey but we didn’t have time to sample its delights. The lady at Brokerswood made our stay enjoyable because we had confidence that customers are important to her. I cannot express just how important customer service is to us. It is the single biggest reason that will stop me staying at (or returning to) any campsite or hotel. The site is organised, good value and well thought out. We will definitely return to Brokerswood!

We have just come back from a ten day break at Brokerswood, what a lovely campsite and excellent facilities they have there, toilets are continually monitored and kept to a very high standard, we stayed on a hard standing pitch whilst there and were made very welcome by the campsite management.
Brokerswood is not just a campsite but also a country park with woodlands and play areas and stunning surroundings, there are plenty of things for all the family to do and a miniature railway that will take you into the woods and adventure play area.
There is also a shop that sells gifts and milk should you run out and also a cafe with reasonable prices. We will certainly be returning to Brokerswood.

Stayed here for a week as part of a ukcs meet. Toilets were spotlessly clean and very modern although you had to enter an annoying code to get in which could have been a problem if you got caught short and had forgotten the code, although halfway through the week the code wasn't working and you could walk straight in. The gift shop was nice but over priced and it didn't really cater for campers wanting camping provisions, and no local shop within walking distance. Stayed in a tent and found the campsite drainage wasn't too good as we were up to our eyes in the squelchiest mud you could find.
All our party thoroughly enjoyed themselves and would consider going to another meet here if it was planned.

Well I loved this site. We were on hardstandings due to the time of year so had no mud trailing in the van and didn't even use a waterproof groundsheet. The shower / toilet blocks were well thought out, always clean and well maintained and the family bathrooms were a real luxury on a campsite. The shop is more orientated towards day visitors than campers so you couldn't top up supplies but the cafe adjacent to it was lovely. The staff were all helpful and friendly. The adventure parks weren't as big as they look in the brochure but all the children (and adults) had a great time on them and the walks through the woods were wonderful. We will definitely be returning to this site.

We stayed on this campsite as a base for Longleat so thankfully were out most of the day. The new toilet blocks were just about to open so we had to put up with the old ones which were not planned very well as only 2 showers in each block but right in front of basins so people couldn't even get to shave or clean their teeth! After complaining we were given key to disabled block but in both disabled and the normal block toilet rolls ran out despite requests for refill! - Bit difficult in the night. Also the smell of sewage by the toilets was intolerable and you have to walk past it to get anywhere and it wasn't even particularly hot weather! Although I admit to having a large tent the pitch size was very limited with no excess room. We also found the cafe to be excessively priced and had a long wait-more suited for cup of tea than lunch. The only saving grace was the surrounding woods which were great fun for the kids. We are not ones to moan but do like value for money and cleanliness and to be able to wipe our bottoms when we need to! Will not be going again which is quite sad as an ideal base for Longleat.
