I like this site simply because of the very varied play facilities for our young children in the park which campers get free access to. Potts The Clown visited both days we were there and gave 3 free shows. Wellington tend to hold a variety of kids features/events like that across the summer.
A popular site. Book early.
I spoke to the camping office about bicycles. Cycles are not allowed in the park during open hours BUT campers have access to the park when it is closed to day visitors and are permitted to ride cycles then only. Cycling is allowed within the campsite at all times.
I had some concerns about tent pegs and soil that refuses to accept them so I checked out various pitches in person before booking. Pitches marked specifically for tents, 58 to 72, all looked perfectly fine to me. We took 58, no problems (beneath a mature oak tree). I met someone on my reccy visit in July getting ready to make a serious complaint. He couldn't get a single peg deeper than 5mm (five) in to very dry ground anywhere on pitch 38. Yet when we camped there in August there'd been a lot of rain and pitch 38 was happily accepting pegs for someone else.
We noticed there was no grass on any of the tent pitches. Only bare soil. Probably due to tree cover and constant use.
We loved the walk in the deer park. Saw around 20 deer.
Facilities were decent & clean; fully acceptable.
We booked a return visit while we were there.

A secure site (require a key to gain entry) with access to adjacent country park for free regardless of time. Wash block has 5 toilets & 3 showers with a stool in each & baby changing room. Area for washing up with tiny bin for debris. Recycling bins around site. Floor of toilets did tend to get dirty but there was a mop avaiable in the shower area.
Ground can be very hard and uneven due to being in the middle of a forest, but you are told about this when booking and before you pay. Was told it was dark so needed torches, however, we were put by the washblock, which was lit all nigh, and, as we were put on a lit hookup, it was on all night. Wished it was darker. Shame there wasn't a close play-area for the kids. Went with 2 children who didn't want to venture into the country park at dusk but would have gone to a play-area within the site. Country park was good with several play-areas, a big lake and eating area. You can cycle round the site but not the park.
Had a nice welcome. Saw deer.

A group of us stayed here for three nights.
We consisted of three caravans and one tent.
We were on the premium pitches numbered 5, 7, 8, 9
Great pitches with loads of room. Each pitch was separated by trees and bushes with a big play area in the middle. We had some others that wanted to come with us but the site was full. The pitches are big enough to get two on each pitch, so next time we might see if we can double up.
The site is great, with access to the park, loads to do for the kids, they will never get fed up.
Most of the site is under tree canopies so the sun only just breaks through. Wasps were a pain in the arse but then that has been the case over most of the UK.
Toilet block were modern, clean, and always hot water. The urinals were continually blocking up, I feel this is an on going problem as the warden had a spare set of part soaking in a bucket ready to swap over. He seemed to unblock them twice daily.
Location is great, as there is loads to do. Makes a good base for going out and about.
My only negative is the site we were on is basically the forest floor (mud, stones, twigs etc)
Not a problem if it dry, but we arrived in rain on it was like been at Glastonbury. As soon as the sun broke through it dried out.
I would definitely recommend, infact we have booked up for next year. Book early as it books up quick.

Had a wonderful sunny week end here - and I mean sunny very hot (week end Germany beat us 4 - 1) just a few things to mention - we visited with our three aged 6, 10 and 12 and all were happy - however did not bring bikes as did not think could use in park - you can - after it is shut - agree with other comments about shop do not rely on this for essentials - but do drop in cafe for a drink is nice - toilets and showers were clean - but got very muddy towards end of day depite being really dry and hot - only three showers for whole of site and although busy was not full - think showers have now been upgraded and you do not need to keep hand on button - we did not see any signs about boiling water before use but had taken bottled anyway in case - pitches do vary enourmously - ours was ok but seemed stuck between two pitches so electrical cable went across entrance to another pitch (5) - does have a loveley forest feel to the place and perfect for a week end away - if expensive for site - but park made up for it - would not necessarily stay longer unless going out for day trips because think older children might be bored after a few days - yes we would return

Stayed for BH weekend so site full. Access to park all hours the main selling point - kids loved having playground to themselves before 9 and after 6.
Site full of groups of families so lots of kids cycling around (we had read bikes not allowed so not taken ours!) and some noise but not too late. In ladies 6 toilets and 3 showers meant some queues but generally facilities clean and tidy.
Access by key to gate meant site felt very safe.
Would definitely stay again.

Second visit to this site. We love it, will visit again as soon as possible. We visit our son who lives in Reading and only problem is the key to the gate. I had broken my ankle and they would not give us a spare key to gate, which meant my husband walking a considerable way to let my son in with the car. Other than that it is a brilliant place to be.

Arrived here with a planned late arrival on a Friday, system for out of hours access did not work we would have been locked out and stranded if another outfit had not trusted us and let us in. No mobile out of hours number provided, site did not contact us.
Turns out key intended for us was stolen, did not have a mobile number for us (should have been compulsory) and could not contact us and numerous keys taken all year. Why can't sites sort out late arrivals so common on Fridays? Warden helpful when we complained about our access problems.
Otherwise site fair, pitches mixed but not well signed and as we arrived in dark to find our allocated pitch taken by someone else just parked where we could, narrow roads, free access to park which is a real boon as admission prices are otherwise outrageous. Quiet, not cheap but don't recommend a late arrival until they get it sorted out which must be in hand for next year as we will probably return to visit friends locally. 28 foot limit, stick to it, our van 28 foot, just got around ok.

We have just returned from Wellington Country Park, undoubtedly this is a beautiful park land setting and is quite unique in it's way. I do however feel that the facilities are very poor. The toilets are abysmal, dirty full of cobwebs only a couple of cold / luke warm showers and not enough toilets to cope with the site. There was no hot water to wash up. The Elsan toilet stations were filthy I was wading in stuff? The hard standings were made up of huge Rocks.
The park is beautiful, however as a disconcerting dog owner I was very surprised to find there were no dog waste bins any where on the site or on the camp site.
I don't think I will visit again

Stayed here July 26th for a week. The site is great for the kids with access to the country park. Pitches are generous in size, although grass is rare to find. We had a premium pitch (Number 2) and could barely see our neighbours in pitches 1 & 3 due to the trees separating us. The down side is the noise from the drips after rain drumming on the canvas.
The site is not well lit so lanterns are a necessity. During our week there also there was no lights working next to the washing up facilities. The showers are limited in number but would be sufficient if children were supervised so as not to shower for 30 mins at a time. Wash basins in the ladies did not have very warm water.
No camp shop on site (other than a few items for sale in the country park shop) so a trip to a supermarket in Reading should be planned.
The site is excellent for a base for trips into London, we drove to Maidenhead parked there for £4 a day and was able to purchase return rail fares including all zone travel cards into London for £27 for 4 of us.
The site rules say no noise after 11 pm and this was well obeyed on site, and one of our reasons for booking this site with two young children.

What a lovely Campsite! We camped here for the August Bank Holiday weekend (in 2009) and were blessed with perfect weather for the whole of it.
The campsite is very well organised and after checking in, we arrived at our electric hook-up pitch. It was a very large pitch which we had to share with another camping family, but we parked our (large) car in between to act as a shield so this was fine.
We put the tent up without any problems, but found it very difficult to peg it into the ground. There was a lot of gravel and stones making it almost impossible to peg out. We were advised to bring extra-strong pegs, but in reality we needed a sledge hammer!
Once set up, the actual camping was awesome. The setting was beautiful - the park and the lake = stunning!
There were only 2 other negatives for the whole weekend. The first is that whilst the facilities were generally very good, the mens toilets had a problem with the showers over-flowing, and were thus constantly wet. This meant going to the toilet and having to hold your trousers up off the floor!
Secondly, no camp fires are allowed. We did have a BBQ, which offset this a bit, but we were told beforehand that fires weren't allowed. It's just an idea, but fires in a fire bowl or pit could work?
Otherwise, I loved this campsite and will definitely try to come back!
