Great pitches and quiet site but very inadequate old fashioned toilet block , unheated , smelled mouldy and had push button showers. I thought these went out with the ark. Having just come from a caravan club site ( which costed less ) with clean , warm excellent facilities this was quite a shock. Also more information from reception would have been good ie dont try to get back onto the site on bonfire night until after 9pm as the rest of Berkshire and Hampshire was at the firework display ( we were at Lego land). These visitors were left to park right near to the caravan site with no visible security which was aslo quite a worry.

We visited this site during August bank holiday. Our whole experience was a bit of a nightmare really! When I first rang to book the pitch I informed the lady that we wanted a tent pitch with electricity. She told me that the grass tent pitches were all booked and that they did not have EHU however she would book me onto a hard standing pitch with electricity. I queried what hard standing meant and she confirmed that it was firm ground without grass. Fine I thought.
We booked for Sunday & bank holiday Monday and the helpful lady said that we could have the third night free so we booked that too. The booking confirmation arrived with a lot of excellent information and a map. Our pitch number stated that it was not suitable for a tent - only motorhomes. We rang to check and were assured that pitch would be ok for a tent.
When we arrived on the Sunday the check in staff confirmed our motorhome booking. When we said that it was a tent they said that this pitch was no way suitable for a tent and that the site was full... After checking the pitch she was very very correct - the pitch was gravel/rock. The staff were fantastic and so apologetic. The only thing they could offer us was a place on the rally field which had no facilities at all however they would refund us our night's fee. We could then move the next day to a pitch on the main site. So after spending a (very peaceful) night in a huge field on our own we had to pack up again and move.
I have to say that the vast majority of pitches that they said were suitable for tents were not ideal as they were extremely gravelly and rocky. We found a lovely pitch though which was huge and fairly soft under foot. We were happy until we discovered that the showers and toilets were out of action and the plumber would not be there until next day. Also they had made another error on our booking and we were not eligible for 3rd night free!
Eventually water was sorted although remained luke warm in washing up area. The toilets were OK although my big bugbear of push showers were made worse by only staying on for max of 4 seconds!
The staff that we dealt with were fantastic (especially Brenda!) and the site and park are lovely. The only other complaint would be the extremely high cost of the pitch - £22 per night for bank holiday! Having said all that we probably would go back due to lovely park and closeness to Legoland!

Just got back from three nights here. The park is heavily wooded so not much sun about! No grass either - all pitches were on earth - see later review about tent pegs!
For information, the price of the camping was cheaper than paying to go in the park itself! To go in the park for a family of four would cost £18 - how they can justify this I can't imagine, as you have to pay for crazy golf, the miniature train (which had been vandalised when we were there), bouncy castles and I don't know about the boats as they weren't working. So for your money you got access to two adventure playgrounds, a tiny animal farm and some nature trails! Lovely but hugely expensive.
The sites facilities were fine - I have been to a lot worse and the water in the showers was hot.
Yes you can go in the park at night but because it is sooo big you have to go with your kids - the adventure playground is opposite the lake - our kids are 8 and 9 and we went with them - most kids seemed to be supervised even the older ones. I found this a major disadvantage as campsites generally give the kids a bit of freedom and that wasn't really available here.
The layout of the site is also confusing and you could easily get lost. I also noticed the skip type bin was overflowing. You also have to boil your water for five minutes before using - luckily we had just filled our 120 litre water tank in the motorhome so we didn't need to fill up - you wouldn't want to have to clean your whole system because of yukky water!
So overall it was ok but I don't think we'll be going back - we stayed to go to Legoland and London.

April 2005 It's situated on the Hampshire/Berkshire border and is well worth a visit.
We took our 9 man dome tent and had plenty of room on the pitch to park the car and tie the dog up. The minimum pitch size is 8 x 9 metres, soo accomodate large tents at no extra cost. The pitches are situated in a woodland setting and as you looked out of our tent door you saw all the deer staring back at you from the deerpark. It's very peaceful and quiet and you can go on many of the walking trails in the wood.
For children there's plenty to do including an enchanted Forest, Snakes and ladders an adventure playground and an animal farm. Admission to the country park is free to campers and after 5.30pm the park is closed to the public but campers can still use it for walks etc. We went to the adventure playground every night after tea and had the whole place to ourselves. There is also a large lake in the middle where you can hire boats out through the day or fish or walk round of an evening.
The washing facilities are very good, plenty of hot water and not too far to walk to from the pitches.
To access the camping area you are given a key for a large gate which is always locked, and the site warden is always on hand if needed.
I will definately be going again and would cetainly reccomend it to anyone who lives nearby who wants to go for a short break.

September 2004 We stayed at the touring campsite at Wellington Country Park for just a single Saturday night.
This review covers: pitches; infrastructure; facilities; and campsite rules. I've also included a note about security at the end following a rather unsavoury incident that happened to us.
Pitches: Good size and well distributed around the site. Most of the pitches were located under trees. The pitch we had was flat enough but there were a lot of stones and roots which meant knocking the pegs in wasn't quite as easy as we'd of liked - mind you once you'd got them in they weren't going to come out easily either!
Infrastructure: Each of the (electric) pitches had their own designated hook-up points (so no having to trail extensions half-way round the site to a shared box). Stand-pipes were well distributed around the site. A one-way road system operated at the site which seemed to be well adhered to.
Facilities: We were slightly disappointed with the cleanliness of the facilities at the site, things generally looked a bit grubby and the evidence suggested that the cleaning schedule posted on the facilities block wasn't followed. Beyond the campsite itself the park has a number of attractions activities to keep the kids entertained: minature (ride on) train; adventure play ground; fishing (and pond dipping); walks; boats; etc...
Campsite Rules: The country park website says that cycles aren't permitted in the park and when we booked we made a point of checking this fact. However when we arrived we found that there were cycles being used on the campsite itself and outside of the parks general opening hours they tended to turn a blind eye to campers taking their cycles into the park. Check-in time for the campsite is after 14:00; check-out is by 13:00 at the latest.
*** SECURITY - A WARNING *** Having checked out of the campsite we had to move our car out of the secure (behind a locked gate) campsite to the main park carpark. Within 1 hour the car had been broken in to (they smashed a side window) and a rucksack was stolen. Okay, we shouldn't have left the bag on the seat. This was not an isolated incident - our car was one of two broken into at the time and at least one other was broken in to later that afternoon. We subsequently heard of other incidents which have occured in the same carpark over the last few weeks (although the park staff seemed strangely unaware of these incidents). The policeman who dealt with us explained that the location of the site is ideal for this sort of crime, it's a fairly affluent area boardering on one that is less so.

August 2004 This is a great site for children, dogs and adults. There is a lot to do and so it is ideal for a weekend or longer stay. The facilities are clean. The showers are on a push button which is a bit frustrating if you have shampoo in your eyes. Our only criticisms are that the swans on the lake were a bit unfriendly and you are advised to boil the water before drinking a difficult task on a hot weekend.

June 2004 Excellent site and very good for families. Though we are a couple without children we found the park to be relaxing and would definately stay again and would definately recomend this site to anyone. A bit on the expensive side for the pitches, but still well worth it. Public areas like the toilets and shower's very clean and tidy, one of the first things I look for in all campsites. Marks out of ten, 8 only because the pitches do look as if they could get water logged in a heavy down poor. The facilities in the park are also very good, the deer park was out of this world and the nature trails are a before a Sunday morning breakfast.

July 2004 Lovely site in amongst the trees. Water in the dishwashing area went cold at peak times. The water in the stand pipes is not fit to drink. The Management had big signs saying to boil the water before drinking. The water we drew for our fire bucket was decidedly brown! You have to book in before 5.30pm or no go. Park facilities were great and my boy had a great time running around the park searching for more dinosaurs, pity there was only one. Still it was fun searching. Shop on site only sells milk bread and bacon oh and a few tins of beans. Will go again when the weather is a bit better. It lashed down all weekend but we still had fun.

June 2004 This site is only ten minutes from our front door but we could've been anywhere! Lovely wooded pitches although a bit "tree rooty" underneath the groundsheet. Showers and toilets fine too. Very peaceful. Perfect for the children - great for the adults.

May 2004 Well we have been back and again had a great time. First trip out with the caravan. Found our pitch a bit damp under foot in some places which made it a bit more difficult to get van manouvered in. Might take a Premium pitch next time. These give you more room with a barbeque and picnic bench. Facilities still up to scratch, clean, ample hot water. Very peaceful site. The CDP's now have a roof over the top of them. Callum enjoyed all the facilities in the country park, we had to go and find the dinosaurs on the first night. Still a great place in amongst the trees.
