What a wonderful site! We made a mid-week visit to this leafy peaceful site in Wellington Country Park and were blessed with good weather.
We pitched on No65 (non-EHU) right under the trees and close to the deer enclosure. The pitch was level but hard thanks to the dry weather so I would advise strong pegs as we buckled 4. There are plenty of wooden picnic benches about the site and the pitches are of a good size. The showers (3 in the ladies) are warm and push button operated. Plenty of toilets, washing up sinks and sink cubicles in the shower block. Also plenty of fresh water stand pipes (take a filler tube as they are boxed in), rubbish points and a few elsan points. I was particularly pleased to see bbq disposal points dotted around (bricks and cinder blocks in the the ash bin area).
Having access to the Country Park after hours really made our trip as we took late evening hikes through the woods and saw all manner of animals, my son and I played for hours on the adventure playground and being able to just stroll out to the lakeside and watch the wildfowl was fantastic.
Could do with a shop though as the only one is in the reception and this closes at 530pm.
The site warden was very helpful and friendly, as were the reception staff. Can't wait to go back!

Went as part of a group of four families for the late May bank holiday and were lucky enough to have glorious weather.
The staff were very helpful (though the on-site warden was difficult to track down when we needed him) and we got our pitches with no problem. There is a locked gate that all campers have to go through and we were given our key and let in to the park.
We had asked for electric hookup for our tent and they failed to mention that we would effectively be on hard standing. It was packed earth and loose stones making it very difficult to find a decent pitch. We have a 15m hookup cable and that wouldn't reach the single pylon that serviced the four pitches. Thankfully we were able to juggle with the other families or we would have paid for hookup and not been able to access it.
It's a lovely wooded area but the lack of grass meant that our 1 year old was constantly being carried as all the stones meant that he didn't want to crawl. The other kids could all walk / run so they had a great time.
The site itself was nicely spaced out and though there are a lot of people there you do feel like you have your own patch.
The facilities were generally good though, with so many people there, the gents shower block always seemed to have water all over the place and it regularly ran low on hot water. Shower in the mornings is the best advice I can offer there!
Camping gives access to the park as a whole and there is plenty to do for kids so highly recommended from that perspective. We also took a day to go to Legoland which is about 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic. Hugely busy but lots of fun - probably best for kids 5 and over though as lots of the rides are only for kids over 1.3m in height.
All in all it was a good experience though you may want to take ear plugs to survive a spring dawn chorus - that was seriously loud!

We have been to Wellington 4 times in 2007 and twice the year before and had a very muddy but enjoyable time. However, or last visit was a total disaster. It was a very cold and wet early Easter break. Some bright spark had contracted an electrician to update the hook up facilities who had done a sub standard job. The poor warden who is lovely but alone was left to stand in the cold all night at the fuse box trying her best to enable the site to keep the electric supply. It was freezing. We had no heat supply and with a very young family this made for a very stressful weekend. The poor warden had tried to contact an electrician but was unsuccessful it being a bank holiday weekend. Other campers that were all cosy in their caravans were all running tv's and overpowered heaters causing the site to trip. But found that although they could not watch their tvs they had heat. When we complained at reception we were accused of using too much power ourselves. I found the reception staff insulting, rude and had no interest in what was happening on the campsite. We were threatened by one member of staff and told that if we continued to draw to much power we would be asked to leave the site. All I can say a chance would have been nice. Even an interest that we had paid over £100 to pitch for the weekend and were having such a poor time in the snow would have been something.
The shower blocks are cold dark and dirty. I have seen the warden cleaning the blocks at least three times a day, but she is fighting a loosing battle as if there is the slightest bit of wet Wellington becomes a bog. I have not seen a pitch yet that does not seriously flood when it rains.
If you are spending time at wellington please make sure you are in a caravan and have your wellies.
The park is lovely and the children and the dog love the walks and parks around the lakes. The train is great fun for both young and old.
The local farm shop is very good.
We won't be going back to Wellington as the staff (other than the poor warden)are so rude and unhelpful. Not too mention it not a good site to be on for a long weekend with our fine changeable weather in Blighty.

Excellent site for children, it's lovely when the park is closed to the public in the evening. My two children 9 and 7 loved it. There is a miniature train too for little Thomas fans, extra charge for this, can't remember how much but not expensive. We worked out it actually would have cost more for us to day visit than camp with hook up! Toilet facilities were fine, but it wasn't full when we were there. Lovely pubs for real ale nearby and nice chinese take away 15 min drive. Also although it said no fires quite a few other people were lighting them, so we did, I think as long as you are sensible and keep it small they leave you alone. Easy access from M4, feels like you are miles away in the country instead of half hour drive from Heathrow. Overall thoroughly recommended, especially for families. And we saw foxes, deer, owls and woodpeckers! Apart from the mozzies, a great weekend, just take lots of deet!

I found this campsite quite by accident. I was going to a VW show in Wellington Country Park and when I searched for directions this campsite came up. We found the country park entrance fairly easily, drove down the road to the main entrance then saw a sign for the campsite. This led us to a locked gate. Having headed back to the parks reception we found out that this is where you book in and are subsequently given a key for the gate (We did later see a sign telling you to book in at reception, but it had obviously been hidden as it was next to a drop off point).
The pitch was in a nice position although fairly shaded, which was a shame as for once the sun was out while I was away camping. We paid £15 for the night which seemed a bit steep. We then discovered that we had an electric point, which upon reading the brochure was standard for the pitch we had. It appeared that you can't have a non electric pitch unless you turn up with a tent. We also discovered that you couldn't turn up after 6 o'clock. We were not told that when we booked up over the phone, so it was a good job we had planned to arrive early. This wouldn't be much use if you were coming after work on a friday for the weekend (we arrived after lunch on saturday).
Even though there was quite a few campers on site, including a bunch of fellow VW owners up for the show as well, who seemed to be enjoying a refreshing drink and a good laugh, it was amazing how peaceful it was (the sound didn't seem to travel). In fact we didn't even hear the show that was being held in Waterloo meadow being set up on sunday morning, nor the early arrivals to the show and as a VW owner I know how noisy some of these vehicles can be.
Being able to explore the park for free was great especially as it was quite expensive to visit the park for the day.
The toilet and shower facilities were in a great state although it was a shame that some people didn't read the sign about mopping up excess water after having a shower. The toilet blocks were extremely wet and muddy by early morning, although they were clean again a few hours later. Some people might say a lack of lighting around the site come night time was a problem, especially if you are walking to the toilets during the night, but this made it better as far as I was concerned and is also a good decision environmentally.
Having to hand the key in by 1 o'clock could be annoying, especially if like Sunday it was a glorious day and you were in no rush to leave. Maybe in high season this needs to happen but low season discretion could be used unless you pitch is already booked up.
Similar to what someone said in a previous review there was no mention of the VW show around the park so anybody trying to get out of the site between 10 o'clock and 1 o'clock would have had difficulty. The queue was all the way to the main gate and people from the show were also trying to get out (apparently Waterloo Meadow has a second exit but the park wouldn't let them use it).

Beautiful peaceful setting with plenty of activities for families and children to enjoy. No shops nearby and on site shop charges exorbitant prices (£2.10 for a loaf!). That said the drive to nearby Fleet is pretty and the village shops are more than adequate.
Our biggest complaints were the lack of shower facilities - only one block each for ladies and gents - inadequate at the best of times but in a place designed for kids to have fun and get dirty, wholly insufficient! We were also not too happy that all water had to be boiled before drinking and had to buy bottled water to enjoy a cold drink.

We had a lovely weekend here, with several outstanding good points and several downsides. Overall, I would go back.
Good points:
1) The country park is fantastic and you could spend all day and all night there. Our children are 2 and 3, and there was a fantastic water & sand play area where they stripped down to their pants and got thoroughly messy - just as good as the seaside. Other reviews detail the full range of facilities - there are loads.
2) The tent pitches are in well-shaded peaceful beautiful foresty areas and we were well sheltered from wind.
3) There were several picnic tables by pitches which was a huge bonus (although not one per pitch, so you need to get there early in the day and drag one towards your pitch!
4) There is a farm shop nearby - always gets my vote.
Downsides:
1) The water is not drinking water, unless you boil it, so go with plenty of bottled. We washed up with the hot water from the taps, since there was no notice saying you couldn't, and we lived to tell the tale.
2) There were loads and loads of insects. Take the insect repellent.

Great site for families, as you get free entry to the country park. If you dont use this it though, the site would be rather expensive. All pitches are shaded and fairly well spaced. We came in a big group and our children really enjoyed cycling round the site (and the country park after it closes to the public). The peacock does wake you up early in the morning and I could hear quite some distant road noise but this may not bother you.
If the shower/toilet block was renewed, the site would be fantastic.

This is our second visit to Wellingtons and I have got to say it is just beautiful. When we visited last year I was extremely worried about the water and thought our trip was just a 'lucky' one because I enjoyed it so much. However, this year was even better. I arranged for a group of us to go and managed to get 3 pitches together.
The weather was lovely- which I know helps but when we did have a storm during our stay it made it even more fun being in the woods. My husband has been to France camping and he thinks that Wellngtons in similar to french sites. The site does attract those from the european countries - which in my opinion is a good sign.
The warden wasn't particularly helpful when I asked about the water situation - On the stand pipes it says 'All water needs to be boiled before use' I asked if you would be ok to wash up in it. But she never had a clue! Therefore, from our previous visit we remembered a caravan shop so we went there and bought some aqua sol tabs to stick in our water butts. The caravan shop is only about 10 minutes drive through Risely and they are extremely helpful.
If you have children (especially boys!) they will love it. The showers are ok - looked worse after our boys had used them! But there is a mop to use after to clean up. The toilets are again 'ok' but the setting is so beautiful that it makes up for the lack of facilities. We normally do park resorts-this is not better but different! TIP: Enjoy your kids and caravan/tent during the day and when the park is closed to the public, enjoy the slides, assault course, zip wire and all the other fun stuff for both kids and adults!

Fantastic! Lovely tranquil woodland setting (until our kids arrived!). Toilets / showers basic but clean. Great for kids as the country park has lots of playgrounds, crazy golf, sandpit, ride on train etc and you get free entry to the park when you are staying there. Only negative was that were lots of mosquito type insects due to the environment so take the citronella!
