Just back from a good weeks stay at Faskally.
We were fortunate to get a stance next to the large play park and ideal location for the kids. We were told to go find a stance which were more than adequate for any van.
The shop was well stocked and seemed to cater for all and had a large selection of Caravan spares and needs.
The swimming pool was reasonable at £1 for the kids and £2 for adults which included use of the Jacuzzi, Steam room and Sauna. The bar / restaurant and games room which is next to the pool always looked popular and reasonably priced for a holiday camp.
Excellent walks around Faskally, walk into Pitlochry by road or through the woods and by the lake really nice and took around 1hr. Walk to Killiecrankie very nice but road narrows at times.
Now for what I felt let the site down slightly, a few pounds should be spent on the lower toilet block and a general repair of outbuildings. There is only 1 area to empty the toilet in the lower area and the waste water disposal was over flowing and this was also the clean water area. Bins were over flowing and the dogs mess bin, yuck! No mops for the showers, no toilet brushes and ran out of toilet paper!
All in all we would definitely go back and hopefully the site is even better!

We stayed here for 7 nights at the start of April when it was the majority of Scotlands school holidays. After we had booked in and paid we were informed that we could either be beside the playpark or the toilet block as the owner wasn't opening the bottom field toilet block that week! (although he did during the week after what we heard were lots of complaints). We chose the park as with 2 young kids we felt we would spend more time there than the toilets!
There were plenty of pitches to choose from but most we had to avoid for the difficulty in being able to manoeuvre the caravan into them or having too much of a slope.
Next day after lunch we got our stuff together to go swimming and discovered the pool was closed. On asking about this at reception we were told they only opened it for a few of the sessions when the park wasn't busy. This was never mentioned on their website when I looked at the park! We were also shocked that there was a charge for the swimming (£5 a swim for 2 adults and 1 child) which we did not feel fair seen as the site rates are quite expensive anyway.
The shop was fairly well stocked and reasonably priced and we found the young staff really nice and helpful.
Our kids ended up having a great time on the days when it didn't rain as the playpark is really good and there are some lovely walks nearby. On the days when it rained we would have appreciated the pool and games room open all day (games room just open after 5pm.
We were leaving on the Saturday and on the Friday afternoon through to evening the park became very busy with tourers arriving constantly until the bottom field was more or less full and felt very cramped and noisy.
It is a lovely site in a beautiful location but I probably wouldn't visit again as for the money we paid I didn't feel we got value for money but our kids loved it and I think will be twisting my arm to go back!

Our second visit to this site. We love the fantastic walks from the site and are very fond of Pitlochry (best Indian Takeaway we ever had from Prince of India).
Our previous stay here took in a weekend and it was very busy and very noisy when everyone arrived in the statics and sited vans. We are not snobs but some pretty rough scots stay here. This time we were en-route to Oban and only stayed a couple of nights and we made sure to time our stay mid-week and it was great.
We found no problem at all with shower block always clean and warm when we visited. Suppose it very much depends on the volume of people there are using them and their cleanliness. Cannot expect someone to be there all day to clean up after messy guests. Just takes one leaving a dirty loo or shower to spoil impression for those coming after.
We've never used the bar or pool so cannot comment.
Be warned - if you are by the trees, TV reception non-existent.

We are just back from a 7 day stay at Faskally camp site, overall we were quite pleased with the site. The facilities were okay, the pool was nice although the sauna and steamroom were a little underpowdered but relaxing all the same, a shame the jacuzzi was out of order during our stay.
The little shop sold all the essentials but was a little overpriced, we mainly utilised the co-op in Pitlochry for our shopping.
The tent pitch itself was pretty muddy and got even more so with the rain, in fact it was like a mud bath at one point but that was just the luck of the weather I guess.
As for the toilet blocks, well what can I say. After the weekend days I found them filthy people just didn't use them as they would use their own and the staff had their work cut out for them cleaning them. I usually waited until they were cleaned before going for my shower. However during the week they were not too bad but they shut the second part off through the back leaving just 3 showers for the whole site, so not only did I have to queue and wait but then none of the locks on the showers worked. Also the shower curtains were pretty minging and could do with being replaced as well as the main drains outside the showers being cleaned from all the hair being stuck within (thank god for flip flops). The showers themselves were quite powerful though and always hot which was nice.
The bar was pretty good and generally had a laid back relaxed atmosphere and the prices were generally what you would expect to pay in any pub. There were 3 pool tables and a TV (no sky sports for the football though). Within the bar is a restaurant, the usual pub grub which wasn't bad at all and reasonably priced.
As for the site overall, I quite liked it. We are both aged 30 but I found it to be one rule for one and another rule for others. E.G One group of noisy youngsters thrown out following noise the previous night however a larger group moved in the next day and made as much noise but as they were older it was okay! Could probably do with more patrols I would say. I would also say a little bit more entertainment wouldn't go amiss, karaoke, quiz nights or something like that just to pass an hour at night as Pitlochry isn't exactly buzzing.
The staff all appeared friendly and helpful despite the long hours they all seem to do.
We will probably go further afield next time though but pretty much enjoyed the chilled out time at Faskally.

We found Faskally on the internet and it looked very modern, claiming recently refurbished toilet block and a well stocked shop.
We soon found out that the toilet block looked like it hadn't been touched in years. The showers were dirty and every one had the shower curtain hanging well outside the the tray. This caused the cubicle floor to be swimming with water.
The shop was quite well stocked but totally over priced. Luckily the Co-Op was close by in Pitlockry.
The pot wash room was ok but well away from the tent pitches.
The park was quite good for the kids but was full of litter from the nearby pitches.
Chemical waste point was smelly and a good hike for people near the top end of the park.
Having a German caravan with the door and awning on the opposite side to a UK van we struggled to get the van on the best side of the pitch due to the pitch number post to be in the way. Normally we would of pushed the van on forward but the pitch was large pebbles making it impossable to do.
The position of the site is very good close to great walks and point of interest.
We will be going back to Pitlockry but not to Faskally.

Pitlochry and surrounding area is lovely and the kids had great fun jumping in the river, canoeing and fishing. The river is a 5 min walk from the site which is great. The pool was a hit too but that's where the positives stop.
The loos were filthy and the site strewn with litter, the water taps all dripped constantly creating muddy areas, the chemical disposal was really smelly and only one for all the tourers.
There were lots of tourers on seasonal pitches which looked abandoned with the awnings hanging off and generally looking unloved. There are fantastic dog walks in the surrounding woods but why does no one clean up after their dogs.
Would I use this site again? No. Would I visit Pitlochry again? Yes.

Visited this site at the busy season. Pitches were difficult to find anywhere near the children's park. The area where the park is looks nice and has a circle of tourers around a well equipped children's park, but it is very busy and if you cannot get onto the circle, then you can be a long way away from it. A lot of the site is pitched on a slope, and some blocks would be a good idea just in case.
We have been here before on a holiday weekend where the site was absolutely packed full. Toilet blocks are dated and when we were there, out of toilet roll and messy. This was probably due to the sheer numbers of people using them.
The shop is reasonably priced and staff are friendly and manage the site by invisibility. It seems to be mostly youngsters / disinterested student types managing the site as far as I can tell. There are site rules re noise etc, but they are not enforced and there was not any evidence of anyone patrolling / checking up on anything although we might have missed that.
The bar let the kids in to play pool and our children were happy with the pool and enjoyed having one on site.
Great fishing nearby and lots of fantastic walks around so it can make a good base for the local area, however there can be a lot of noise late in the evening and many people I would not want my children pitched next to. I think this is probably due to our being there in the busy periods and it would be nice to go there when it is just a normal weekend, or not in the kids holidays. I would imagine it is a fantastic site off peak.
The biggest downside for me is that you cannot reserve a pitch, so you take pot luck on where you end up, ie just where there is space.
Would we go back??? My husband would, he likes the local fishing and the bar on site. My kids would (if they could get on the playpark circle which is difficult to do). As for me - I would only go back off peak and not on holiday weekends, which I guess means no for the next 10 years until we are a couple alone. Twice has been enough for me.
It is very pretty though.

Just back from a week at Faskally.
Campsite was Clean and well maintained.
Toilet blocks similar, clean and tidy. Looked modern
Site for Tents is on a slope so beware of which pitch you get. On some people must have had the most uncomfortable night sliding down their beds.
Wi-Fi is listed but you can hardly pick it up at the tents.
Staff very friendly, shop catered for all the essentials and not overpriced like some places. They didn't rip off the captive audience.
Not much to do for middle to older kids once they had swam a couple of times or played at the park.
If you want a quiet time away and not fussed about when the bar is open then Faskally is brilliant.
If you have a family and would spend most of the time sight seeing or touring then Faskally is brilliant.
If you are looking for all the facilities and entertainment on one site then you may have to look further afield

This is a very nice site. Great for families with kids. Play park, swimming pool all worth a go. Bar meals were good and not too pricey. Shop is well stocked and reasonable. I have only one issue with the site location is beautiful but it is freezing as soon as it hits 5ish so take you slipper socks and jumpers and you'll enjoy it. I will be going back.

We have just spent 2 weeks touring Scotland and stayed 6 nights at this caravan site. I have to say we were bitterly disappointed with it - especially as it was the most expensive out of the three sites we visited at £23.50 a night. We found the site to be overcrowded and noisy - having only 2-3 feet of space between our caravan and the one on the next pitch. We were crammed in like sardines!
For the size of the site we would have expected to find more than one chemical disposal point too. Because it was located so far away from the touring caravan area, it was necessary to take your loo by car to empty it - that is, for those of us who bothered to use the chemical disposal. People around us were emptying their toilet cassettes down the drains near the taps where you obtained your drinking water.
I think we must've just been very unlucky because, unlike reviews from people who visited this site in June 2010, we found the toilets and showers an absolute disgrace. They were filthy and on a number of occasions there was no hot water at all. The washbasins in the toilet blocks were also being used as an alternative pot wash.
The only good thing you can say about this site is that the staff in the shop / reception area are very friendly and you could buy most things in the shop. It is also close to a number of attractions - Blair Atholl, Killiecrankie, Pitlochry and Queens View - all of which are worth visiting.
