Can't honestly see why this site has such good reviews, ok so it is quiet and out of the way but first class - I don't think so. Fair to middling would be my rating but I guess I've been spoiled a bit by Caravan Club standards. The owners were friendly enough but too many rules, re-cycling your waste properly was one of them, I like to re-cycle but not to the point of obsession! I met one older lady who was confused by it all and really worried that she would be in trouble if she got caught doing it wrong?? Also, when I arrived I was told that only green toilet fluids were allowed which of course, few people have and guess what? They had it on sale there at a greatly inflated price. If you need some, take a trip to Oakhampton, just before you get there, on the right is a Texaco garage and behind it is a store that sells everything, I bought a big bottle of green there. For just over £6. 00
This may be a good site for campers but not for me thanks.

Although we only stayed one night for a stopover. We didn't see much of the surrounding area, but we were very impressed with the site and the amenities which were first class
The site was very well laid out, with plenty of space for awnings and parking. We were very impressed with the layout of the toilets, showers and laundry. And the owners were very friendly and helpful, will certainly recommend to our friends

We stayed at Woodland Springs for a couple of nights and were quite impressed, the site is clean and tidy, (even though there were some upgrades going on).
The owners were helpful, friendly and Knowledgeable, the toilet block is modern, warm and clean, but the lights went out while I was in the shower, and I had to leave stall to get them to come on again (good job no one came in while I was running around nude)
The only downside for us was the fact the pub was only accessible along a busy main road with NO footpath, not a dood idea in the dark, especially with a black lab in tow.
So if you're looking for good quiet well kept site and don't mind driving to get anywhere go for it.

We recently stayed at this site for 3 nights in September and returned in November for 7 nights and had a great time. The site was peaceful, clean and I found the owners friendly and welcoming.
There are rules but I did not think that they were any worse than on most sites that we stay at. These are mainly common sense ie quiet between 11pm and 8am, gates locked overnight etc. The biggest difference is the need for recycling because of the restrictions on the refuse collection. Most of us are used to recycling at home so it was no problem to carry out here.
We were pitched on a hardstanding which was level and a decent size, would have been difficult if we had put our awning up and some of it would have had to go onto the grass, but no problem as we didn't need the awning.
All of the usual facilities were of a very high standard. The toilet block was immaculate, with great push button showers, although they do not stay on for long the water is hot with good pressure and they are a good size. The disabled facilities are the best I have ever come across always spotless, with lashings of hot water. Laundry facilities again excellent and always clean.
We visited the Post Inn for Sunday lunch, a carvery - the food was good, the bar staff friendly
The site is great for walking on Dartmoor, and visiting some of the local National Trust properties with Castle Drogo very close and well worth a visit. The walk from Castle Drogo, via the Fingle Bridge and back along the river Teign is a fantastic way to spend the day.
All in all we thought this was a great site with excellent facilities, and helpful, friendly owners and we would be more than happy to recommend this site for people, who like us used it as a stopping off point to and from Cornwall, or just wanting to relax and have a great break.

This is quite possibly one of the best sites we have stayed on in Devon. They have worked hard to provide good dry pitches of huge proportions, excellent amenity facilities, a great dog walk, very informative information cabin and a relaxed, friendly environment. On this occasion we unfortunately had major health issues, and the kindness shown to us was amazing. We look forward to returning next summer. Thank you.

We arrived early with our relies PJRB below so had the same welcome, pitch etc. (But this was clearly stated not to arrive before 1pm we did offer to go off and come back but they said it was ok and we were shown our pitch. )
Yes there are rules but I didn't feel they were any stricter than other places, and after a day we found it to be a very relaxed site.
After a couple of days we had got used to the recycling which is easy to follow. Cannot understand why some people were just putting everything in the general rubbish when you can see they have cans etc.
Lovely location, facilities excellent including the free ice pack freezing freezer.
We will definitely return.
The owners run a lovely site and are very friendly and helpful (if you do not arrive before 1pm )
Our first adult only site and it was heaven, no mess in the toilets/washing up areas. Wash basins free and not overrun with kids all wanting their own basins, no footballs whizzing past your pitches making dogs bark and no games starting at 7:30am in the morning!

We found this to be a lovely site, the layout is perfect although there is no view to speak of, it is very pleasant. The weather was changeable and had been very much worse, therefore some pitches were waterlogged and I can only assume some bookings were cancelled because of this. We were 25 minutes early and this was pointed out to us, we did find the lady a little frosty to start with but I think they need to let people know that it's not a free for all and respect is required. We were advised that our booked pitch was very 'boggy' and were offered an alternative which was very muddy but dry instead, we opted for the mud as we did not want any water seeping through our groundsheet!
Our pitch was a bit muddy but we laid down a tarp in the porch which we took up when we went out (as requested by the owners), the front 'garden' was quite dry and we sat out here a lot.
Toilets spotless. Site very clean and tidy. Small shop with essentials and local stuff. Tourist information hut with lots of info. Lovely coffee machine £1. Washing machine £3, drier £1 - iron free! Local town Okehampton about 10 mins drive away for all your needs.
Great field for dog walking/running/sprinting and just being dogs!
Would definitely return to this lovely site as it is a great base for Dartmoor and not a great trek to the coast either.

We recently stayed at this site for 12 nights and had a great time. The site was peaceful, clean and I found the owners friendly and welcoming.
There are rules but I did not think that they were any worse than on most sites that we stay at i. E. Quiet between 11pm and 8am, gates locked overnight etc. The biggest difference is the need for recycling because of the restrictions on the refuse collection.
Most of us are used to recycling at home so why this might prove such a challenge to people on campsites, I find difficult to understand. Every morning you found the campsite owners having to rummage through rubbish bags to recover recycling that campers had thrown in the normal waste. We actually miss the fantastic plastic recycling that they have at the site, it is so much simpler than the one at our home.
We were pitched on a hardstanding which was level and a decent size. All of the usual facilities were close to hand and everything was maintained to a high standard. The toilet block was very clean with great push button showers, although they do not stay on for long the water is hot with good pressure and they are a good size.
We had problems with TV reception where we were as although most channels were good we could not get BBC. We went and bought a travel satellite as we wanted to watch the Olympics and the opening ceremony, we got a perfect picture with this.
We visited the Post Inn three times for meals, the food was good, the bar staff friendly but unfortunately we had to walk out on a Sunday lunch following a very long wait whilst the waitress inexplicably failed to take our dessert order. This greatly saddened us as we had some lovely meals there, we hope that the management sort this out because it is a nice pub.
The site is great for walking on Dartmoor, visiting Exeter or some of the local National Trust properties. Finch Foundary and Castle Drogo are very close and well worth a visit. If you are fit enough the round trip walk from Castle Drogo, via the Fingle Bridge pub for lunch and back along the river Teign is a fantastic way to spend the day.
All in all we thought this was a great site that we are more than happy to recommend for those who want peace and don't mind recycling. We are already planning our stay here next year.

Lovely clean, quiet site. Lovely area close to the Dartmoor and there are some lovely walks close by.
Owners very friendly and welcoming. As for negative comments about 'rules' being read out, these are silly remarks to make as the few rules there are seem very sensible and make your stay much more pleasant.
The only thing I would add to this lovely site is have a radio or some music piped into the very quiet toilet block.

If you appreciate paying £21 per night to be called brainless and stupid within five minutes of arrival, this may be the site for you. Personally, I do not, when a polite request to move would suffice.
The facilities are good and the dog exercise area second to none. However we will never return. In nine years of touring and many sites, we have never been received so rudely.
We booked in advance by phone, from an ad in CCC guide. There was no mention of 1pm arrival and there is no arrival area, where you can get out of the way of others.
We have family in Okehampton and would have been regular visitors, but there are plenty of other choices close by.
