This is a lovely site - with everything you could need.

Clean toilets and showers. Fully stocked shop. Chip van most weekends. Kids parks and crazy golf. Beach just over the dunes.

The staff are lovely and it makes a change from butlins style clubhouses.

I have visited for the past 3 years and have a small basic caravan I store there.

Great rates and prices

Ideal for couples families and kids

Very disappointed with the toilet/shower facilities, extremely dated and in desperate need of a refurbishment. Only one tap on the sinks, no soap in the dispenser and the hand dryer worked when it felt like it!

The Washing up facilities were also in a bad state, the sink was cracked and was very grey looking - needless to say we didn't use it!

The site overall looks very much like its in a time warp and looks very tired.

Having said that, the location is fantastic and the dog walk was good.

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

The views over the sand dunes onto the beach are great its just a shame the site lets it down.

Its a shame but we will not be returning to this camp site as the shower/toilet facilities are very poor.

This is our 3rd year at Waxham & we love it! Seal watching is always rewarded & they often watch bathers from a short distance away.

The site staff are all very friendly & helpful, especially when our leisure battery went flat because I'd set the fridge on the wrong setting!

They kindly charged it for us overnight for £1. 00. The site is very family & pet friendly.

Be aware that walking along the beach to Sea Palling on a hot summer day may result in you getting to see a lot more of some sunbathers than you would expect, as we found out when we stumbled through some rocks to see a male naturist enjoying the sun!

The sinks in one of the blocks were refurbished this year, although only with hot water taps & you won't find any hot water for washing up from mid morning till mid afternoon but if you can live with that you're in for a treat!

The site remains excellent value for money in a beautiful setting.

We've just got back from a weekend at Waxham and have had the best weekend of the Summer Holidays.

We've been to many sites as part of our holiday and this has by far been the most welcoming full of friendly staff.

On arrival you drive down a long lane to the site with the view of the sand dunes in the distance, lovely.

We had an easy time booking in and were shown our pitch on the big map on the wall behind the desk - a big improvement on 'you're over there' that we have been receiving elsewhere.

Our pitch was quite roomy and we parked on the left as advised. This left plenty of room for my parents to bring their tent and pitch up, plus their car, and still we had heaps of space.

Facilities: As said before the toilets and showers are old but reasonably clean. I spotted the young lady cleaning them regularly but unless parents teach kids to flush chains there's not much she could do!

The showers only had one temperature whilst we were there and that was hot which, although heaven for me, not so much for my daughter who cried throughout as it was too hot. Fortunately the shop is close so a bribe of a cornetto worked a treat!

The shop is basic but still the best on-site shop I've seen. As said by others make sure you have cash - stop off at Tesco in Stalham is the best bet.

The highlight of Waxham Sands has got to be the beach. Not much I can say about it that hasn't already been said but it is truly my favourite beach in the world.

The kids park is in a separate field to where we were camping which is a slight problem but nothing a paper didn't solve (which can be pre-ordered in the shop!). The crazy golf had just been repainted and looked nice and fresh and my daughter loved it. Mind you, she loved everything!

The chip van does sell lovely chips but I'm not sure if this is because they are lovely or because you have to wait so long for chips. Try to go as soon as they open (usually 5pm) or you'll end up waiting forever. I had to wait 35 minutes for a bag of chips. I don't think I've ever waited that long for a meal in a restaurant let alone a bag of chips. Was a bit disappointing to say the least.

On our last day we found out the site is open til mid-October so will definitely try and squeeze in another weekend away.

All in all this site is perfect if you want somewhere cheap, cheerful and with a beautiful beach. And with friendly staff too - what more do you want!

We have been to this site now for two years running, after coming across it by accident the first time. We have always found it a very friendly site for us and the dog. The facilities are basic but, are ample and clean, we have stayed in worse. The beach is excellent and is dog friendly and helps when you have a water loving dog. The staff are very friendly, even when our tent blew away this year when being put up in a howling wind, and thunder storm. We are returning this year for a week in august with my sister who is new to camping. Would definitely recommend this campsite to people.

We have just returned from a very relaxing holiday at Waxham Sands and enjoyed our stay so much that I felt I should submit a review.

First Impressions-Not great I have to say it did resemble a bit of a refugee camp to be honest with a very 70's feel but as I found out first impressions don't always have to count.

I loved the relaxed atmosphere of the site, we booked in very quickly by a lovely lady and pitched on a nice level grass pitch with electric.

We found the electric point wasn't working a straight away someone was out to fix the problem with no trouble at all.

Pitch size was excellent with lots of space around the tent left to spare. We did have someone at the back of us but it really never felt overcrowded.

Toilets-As previously stated clean and serviceable although a little outdated but I have stayed in more modern facilities and been disgusted by the cleanliness so no problems like that. I would say though they really should have soap dispensers and hand dryers as although I took my soap to wash my hands the little ones aren't always as thoughtful and just dash to the loo without handwashing in soap so I feel that should be addressed for health and hygiene. I bought some handwash to leave in for others to use but it went walkabout

Showers - 50p coin from reception and lovely spacious shower area but do wear your flip flops as it can get a bit muddy underfoot and there isn't a mop available that I could see. They are hot and last more than long enough.

Playground- Fabulous large area for my children 11, 7 & 6. Two playgrounds for all ages really and good football & kite flying area plus a crazy golf. My children had to be dragged away at the end of the day!

Noise Levels-We were there at the height of the season in school holidays and we never heard a thing after at the latest 11pm. The on site security guy was a lovely friendly man who did regular patrols in his jeep. He also came into his own trying to rally everyone to help find a lost little boy on the site using his jeeps built in loud speakers.

Beach-The beach is truly beautiful the first night we watched two seals swimming in the sea and lots of children spent a lot of time playing in the grassland of the dunes before the beach where you still keep a close eye on them. We walked along the beach to the little village of Sea Palling but weren't lucky enough to spot any seals on the walk.

Sea Palling is worth a trip to it took us a good hour to walk to but we were with 3 young children who kept stopping to look at things and jump in and out of the waves. The beach there is lovely and has a lifeguard present if you want the extra peace of mind for a swim.

There is also a very well equipped playground just past the car park. There is a charity car park just further up the road where you can park all day for £1. 00

There are some lovely places in the surrounding areas to visit. I had bought a treasure hunt for Wroxham which allowed us to explore the area in detail without spending too much money. They also have them for Great Yarmouth, nearby Cromer & Happisburgh.

We visited Cromer which is a very pretty town and went to Yesterday's World in Great Yarmouth which in all honesty was ok but a little overpriced for what we saw. We spent a lovely day at Fritton Lake where the children had fun on the bouncy pillows and we took to the lake in a rowing boat which was all included in the price.

All in all it has been a wonderful holiday on a decently priced site we paid £18 a night with electric for 5 of us and we will certainly be visiting again.

We have just returned from a few days at Waxham Sands. The location is great, the dunes are wonderful and the beach fantastic – unfortunately it rained incessantly while we were there which was clearly not so great but no-one’s fault.

The staff at this site appeared very helpful, flexible and hard-working. However, their job cannot be made very easy by the insufficient, outdated and very disappointing facilities.

It is a large campsite with playgrounds, a crazy golf area and a chip van. Great for children (who generally don’t care how grubby they get). It is also a good site for dog owners with a very generous size “natural” area adjacent to the site and, of course, the dunes.

But, as previous reviewers point out, don’t go there if you want a quiet stay. We found it very noisy at times and were unaware of the 11 o’clock curfew as some people continued to make a lot of noise well into the early hours.

The pitches were wide enough for a caravan or tent with car parked next to it but were very close to the row behind; as one reviewer mentioned, you could hear your neighbours snoring.

The toilet blocks and shower block are separate and quite far apart. This is the first campsite we have stayed on where you can’t visit the loo and then just pop into the shower either in the same building or just next door.

In the ladies there was only hot water to the basins. Not much good for teeth cleaning! Although the toilet block was mopped out regularly, they need a far more thorough clean and some decent lighting as they were also dull and dingy with only a single bulb.

The shower block, we thought, was especially appalling. The ceiling and window frames were covered in mould or mildew. The “doors” were at least two feet off the ground – unacceptably high and not very discreet for taking a shower! The 50p for 5 minutes of dribbling water is a bit steep for such archaic showers with no adjustment on flow or temperature, although the water did eventually run warm enough.

On the blocks nearest to us, the loo waste disposal is right next to the washing up sink. Perhaps this is a health and safety issue? It is certainly unpleasant.

There were far too few washing up facilities (one sink for each of the blocks) with no covering from the elements and water of variable temperature.

Another annoying thing was that the “roads” between the pitches became a quagmire with the heavy rain, with ruts made particularly bad by the (necessary) frequent tractor trips to collect rubbish, etc. Surely some kind of suitable road surface could have been put in?

Our thoughts about this site are that the owners are taking in a considerable sum of money but not investing in the facilities, which don’t look as if they’ve been updated since the seventies. This gives an atmosphere of complacency (far too prevalent in British tourism), presumably because they have a fantastic location and think that people should feel lucky to stay there.

All in all, not a campsite we will ever stay at again unless the owners completely change the facilities; one chip van and crazy golf are not important enough to outweigh the lack of good, clean toilet and washing facilities.

Thought I'd leave my 2cents about the campsite as this was mine and my partners first camping trip with our brand new tent and our 2 pug dogs.

We arrived and the staff on reception were friendly and showed us on a very large map on the wall where our pitch was. The pitches were all numbered well which helps. The pitches are also very large! People surrounding us put up marquess and loads of windbreakers to explain how big the pitches were.

The facilities (IE: Showers) are very old fashioned. You have to buy tokens for 50p for a 5 min shower or something. But they're clean overall. The toilets again aren't modern but are clean and kept up to date with toilet roll.

This site is based opposite a beach as people have mentioned which is just over the dunes on the campsite. It's a wonderful big sandy beach and we and the dogs went on it every day. They loved it.

You're about 20mins away from Great Yarmouth if you're looking for food, supermarkets and amusements.

Considering we went at the beginning of the school holidays it was peaceful there and we enjoyed ourselves very much as did the dogs! The price of the campsite is very reasonable and if you're looking for just a basic field to camp in (As did we) then this is the perfect place. I'm sure we'll be visiting again next year.

Having recently returned from Waxham sands, I felt we must add our review.

This site has got to be one of the friendliest sites I have ever been on, just a short hike over the dunes to the beach (slightly hard work but worth it) you can see seals in the sea and walk for miles, the sand is very soft no pebbles to speak of, the beach was far from over crowded and the other campers were very friendly.

The facilities on the site are not exactly new but clean and serviceable, in fact the showers were excellent, with plenty of room for getting changed without the usual hassle of keeping everything dry.

The kids play area was fine but with the beach you don't need it. The Fish & Chips were very good indeed and a god send for your first night after pitching up.

The local pub we found very friendly and the locals very chatty so not sure why the previous review said otherwise.

All in all we be back there very soon.

Our holiday here May half term was a pleasant one!

Booking in was an easy and nice experience. Was told where our pitch was and it was easy to find (numbered post on pitch). Pitch was a lovely size, we pitched to the left of it as advised which gave us plenty of room for the car too.

Toilet facilities were clean and adequate for our needs. Showers were a good size and separated into shower and dressing area. We showered late one night and they were cold, so would advise showering of a morning.

Our kids loved the park, we felt they were safe there and therefore let them go to and from the park as they wished, although staying together. The Crazy Golf on site is a good idea and the price is reasonable to keep the kids amused for a bit.

Shop was no more expensive than some shops outside. We used it for the odd drink and bits we forgot whilst out. The take away van was nice, my son had Hot dog and chips and there was a fair amount there for the money. Great idea if you don't want to cook one night.

Beach over the Dunes is gorgeous! A lovely walk along it and you may even see the seals.

We had pouring rain the first night but the ground was fine. Brilliant weather the rest of the week and strong winds on the last night but the ground held the tent and although noisy was ok.

Round up of our stay. Excellent! Will be booking to go back in July if available.
