We have just returned from a lovely week at Waxham Sands with our two children, 8 and 13. The site is in a quiet rural location with a spectacular sandy beach accessed via impressive sand dunes.
It is simple and family oriented with lots of space for children to play and explore. The staff were friendly and helpful. Word of advice: Take cash - there is an ATM inside the Post Office at Sea Palling 3 miles away but if it's shut there isn't another one for a very long way!
Facilities: There is only one shower block, but we never experienced queues (perhaps due to the token system and slightly temperamental water temperature!). There are no sinks or toilets in the shower block, which means planning your ablutions carefully!
Toilets are plentiful, clean but basic: the sinks have only hot water taps (or in the case of the block nearest the dunes only cold taps) and there is no soap in most of them. Each does however have a large butler sink with hot & cold running water which would be good for washing little ones in.
The site has a small shop stocking the basics plus an excellent fish and chip van open every evening and also at weekends for breakfast if you don't fancy cooking. There is a small play area for little ones and an adventure playground for older children. There is also a frustratingly challenging mini golf course which provided endless entertainment!
Things to do: The beach is amazing and we saw lots of seals. Wander along it to the little resort of Seal Palling for an ice cream. The local roads are quiet enough for family cycling. Hickling Broad is well worth exploring - we hired canoes, but there are a range of boats available although it is best to book in advance.
The bottom line: We'll definitely go again.

We had heard about this site and were really looking forward to our stay.
When we got there everyone was very friendly and helpful. Very pleased with our pitch which was very large and we fitted our very large tent in with no problems.
The showers and toilets were basic and the showers did run cold on Sunday morning, but it was very busy and they were clean.
The location is great and though it was pretty cold the beach was great, the kids were so excited to see the seals.
The shop was well stocked and Tesco's is a short drive away.
I love Norfolk and we had two great days out. One in Cromer where fun was had crabbing and one at Bewilderwood that the kids loved and was well worth the money as they can play all day.
In all we had a lovely time. A good child friendly site that we really enjoyed. Looking forward to returning next year

We have stayed at Waxham Sands twice now, first time was in August 2009 and second time was August 2010. We have just booked again for a week in August this year after cancelling our holiday in Wales as we miss Waxham so much!.
A lovely relaxing site were our 4 kids are safe to play in the playgrounds as security is on hand at all times. All the staff are very helpful and welcoming. There is a small shop which sells the basics that you need but there is a Tesco just down the road for anything else.
The showers are pretty basic but do the job, just remember which one is the dodgy one! This would be the only negative we have.
We found the noise level was kept to a minimum and most people were quite at gone 10 o clock, security were driving around most of the night to keep there eye on everything.
The chip van was great and the prices were very reasonable indeed.
Overall a great location and a fantastic beach which kids love.Would recommend this site. Can't wait to go back in August!

Lovely site, with amazing beach only a couple of minutes walk. Clean toilets and showers. Nicely stocked shop, lovely park & playing fields. AND the best Chilli I've ever had from the Takeaway! Grt Yarmouth 20 minutes drive away. If you get a chance, visit the mill 5 minutes up the road, the kids will love the climb to the top!
This site is brilliant if your on a budget and don't want the hustle and bustle of the more commercial sites that cost the earth with endless amusement arcade machines and activities!

We booked onto this site for a fortnight in August – 2 adults, 1 eight year old & a dog!
We had booked this particular site through the positive reviews we had read & the fact that we have enjoyed a couple of previous holidays on this coast – Sea Palling & Winterton-on-sea - & the beaches are some of the finest in the UK!. Being extremely reasonably priced compared to sites we have stayed on in previous years, I didn’t expect the facilities to be to the standard I have previously been used to &, if I’m honest, I wasn’t disappointed!
Upon arriving at reception, my first impressions were that the site looked a bit run-down & tatty. The “fairground style” fish & chip van with broken seating, the jaded looking crazy golf & the haphazard caravan storage area that greeted us as we drove up to reception didn’t really give me the impression that this was a well looked after site. However, the staff were extremely friendly & sorted us out in no time – maybe first impressions can be deceiving?
This is a fairly large, family orientated site catering for caravans, campervans & tents. The site itself nestles just behind sand dunes so the pitches, although fairly large, are quite soft & sandy.
Our pitch was on the periphery of the site & overlooked the sand dunes – although we think it did as our view was mostly obscured by windbreaks, gazebo’s & flags!
It appeared that you could put up whatever you want, where ever you want it – I’ve seen more space between pitches at Glastonbury!
The facilities I considered very basic - the men’s shower block never felt that clean & it also had a very dated feel to it – the showers cost 50p for 5 minutes & were inconsistent both in temperature & power - & I heard from quite a few women on the site that their shower block wasn’t the cleanest, with most complaining about the mould in the cubicles. My wife didn’t feel comfortable about using them after the first time so used the caravan shower for the duration of our stay - something we do normally need to do.
The toilets, although again dated, were okay apart from one block flooding on a couple of days through a blockage – no fault of the site owners though, I hasten to add! I think a previous review mentions that there is no soap or hand drying facilities in the toilets but, as I always use my own soap & towels, I didn’t feel this was a particular issue although I can’t recall staying on a site of this size where the toilets didn’t have a hand dryer.
The shop I found to be well stocked & prices were surprisingly good considering that the nearest supermarket is about 7 miles away in Stalham. Again, the staff were extremely friendly &, I noted that if they didn’t have what you required, they went out of their way to obtain it.
Regarding recreational facilities – the kids play area is in a completely different field to the main camping field & certainly, I felt, too far away to allow my 8 year old to safely wander off to it on his own. The crazy golf costs £1 each & I have to admit that we quite enjoyed a round on the odd evening before picking up our fish & chips from the on site van which, incidentally, serves some of the best fish & chips I have tasted!
I personally feel though, that the main attraction of this site is the beach. It is only the dunes that separate the site from the beach & wow, what a beach it is! Unfortunately, due to the poor weather, we only got to spend a couple of days on the sand & in the sea but we certainly made the most of it!
In conclusion & as noted previously, this is very much a family orientated site &, as such gets extremely busy & noisy during school holidays so, if you want a quiet, relaxing holiday it’s probably not the best place to go. However, having said that, if you just want a weekend spent on a beautiful, unspoilt Norfolk beach then it’s probably worth giving this site a go!

Kids had the best time ever. We will be coming back next year, kids wont to see your new friends that they made. We love the beach, and Norfolk.
This was our first time down here, we did 2 weeks and we loved it. It was all we were looking for, with a family of 2 kids, 1 dog in a tent. We have told all our friends about the campsite and the erea. The seals were so ace to see.
Campsite was clean, just could do with older playground a bit closer to the campsite, just a bit for away from tent, but must say that was all that could be done. See you all next your

Have just spent a week at this site. Fabulous location with a lovely sandy beach just over the large dunes. Campsite itself is ok, although can be very noisy - do not go here for peace and quiet.
Lots of toilet blocks around the site which did get a bit pongy following a rain storm but only one lot of showers which is inadequate for a site this size as they were busy and water luke warm at peak times. The 50p for 5 minutes cost is long enough though.
Well stocked shop and lovely fish & chips from the permanently sited chip van - don't be put off by looks! Very good dog walk and dog friendly beach.
Shops are a short drive away, got a rude reception at the Nelson (local pub) but other good eating places a short distance away. Good value site though and would go only for location alone!

This is our second summer holiday at this site, chosen mainly for it's location right next to the sea in an area of unspoilt beauty. We were delayed by 2 days to our car breaking down, but were able to move our booking at no extra cost, which many sites would not do.
One of my issues last year was the abundance of dog mess in the dunes, however this was less apparent during our latest visit possibly due to the warnings of adders in the area?
The showers are still a trickling disappointment with hot water being available mainly in the morning but we worked round it. This also applied to the dishwashing area too.
We were almost in the middle of the site and trips to the facilities blocks were made more difficult by groups of units placing windbreaks right round the perimeter of their multiple pitches, meaning that a direct route was not possible. We all like our privacy but this is a campsite so more consideration would be welcome.
There are takeaways of every description in the village of Stalham nearby, if you don't fancy the chips from the van on site which are still excellent quality & value. There is a good sized Tesco there for more supplies.
The shop is well stocked and not as badly priced as it could be and the staff are friendly and helpful.
We have grown to love this area so much that we will be going there again. For a basic, no frills site that is excellent value for money it can't be beaten.

Just spent a week at this site. Staff in reception were very plesant. The shop on site was well stocked and not overly priced. The pitches although quite wide, were not that deep, as in our guy ropes were crossing over with the tent behind.
We didn't think the noise curfew at 11pm was implemented by the site as noise carried on well into early hours. Showers and toilets are dated but clean. We didn't have to queue for showers even though site very busy.
The best thing about this site is the beach. Lovely sand and never crowded.

WE spent a week here monday to Friday and had a great time. ( two families. 4 adults, 5 children and 1 dog)
We pitched right near the sand dunes so had just a short walk to the beach which is fantastic. Miles of sand and plenty of space for everyone.
The site was busy and not what we are used to. There was quite a lot of noise but most nights this stopped around 2200hrs.
Being its August there were lots of teenagers around who gathered on the dunes during the evening but the on site security did monitor this in his tricked up Vitara complete with blue lights!
The toilet block was ok although no hand dryers or soap. The shower block was to a similar standard. Ok- Functional
The on site shop was well stocked
All in all we would go back as long as we could book a pitch away from the main area
