Just back from a couple of days stay in the 'adult area' on the campsite. The new shower block was about to have its official opening but was in use. They were fully booked for the jubilee weekend but it was quiet when we left. The view over the lake was lovely, but this would be obscured by two rows of tents if fully booked. There were a lot of touring caravans that looked to be permanently sited there and the tents were in the one field.
We had a friendly welcome and the facilities explained to us. The old blocks were well past their best but it wasn't a long walk to the new block. There is lots to do around, our best find was a lovely pub in Whitsbury, the Cartwheel had excellent food and beer and was on the route of a lovely little trail. I would return to the campsite but only when I thought it would be quiet.

We've just returned from a 3 night weekend break at this site. Security is very good with access to the site by key card and barriers. We were in the adults only side and were very impressed with the size of the pitches, we were on pitch 300 which was gravel hardstanding just off the main roadway but ideally situated as not too far from the shower block. The toilet block has 2 loo's and 1 shower and is newly built, can imagine in the busy times it would be difficult to time your showers. They are building a new block that is due to open at Easter but that is on the other side of the site nearer the camping fields. There are older shower blocks in the adult only side but they were closed. There was a lovely little woodland dog walk and a larger looped dog walk which opens directly onto the forest although it's very wet and boggy. It is a great place if you want to fish as they have fishing ponds.
We had a really relaxing break here. You have to accept that because of the lakes there are lots of geese and ducks and they tend to give you an early morning wake up call but apart from that the site is peaceful. It was a lot larger than we imagined but because of the lay out you still feel like you are 1 of a few, although in peak season it may be very different. Great location for Salisbury town app 20 mins away, a lovely pub called The Lamb Inn at Nomansland is app 5 mins by car away and right in the forest so great to walk off the lovely food afterwards. I would recommend this site and I would revisit it again.

Have to watch out for very small campsite sign otherwise easy to miss this site. Passed the site but rang up - not good signal - and got directions to site.
Warm welcome and shown to our site. Plenty of room for campervan and awning and electric hookup.
Toilets dated but clean, hot water and showers good.
Can walk from the site into the New Forest for hours. Saw lots of New Forest ponies, fox, deer owls.
Flat pitches.
No shop but plenty of shopping nearby.
Feels like you are camping in the Forest which is lovely.
Very quiet site on the whole, one night there were a group of teenage girls on a break from Uni who had a BBQ and played music but in bed by 10:30 and very polite and good natured, asked if they were disturbing us but assured that after a couple of vodkas we might be louder than them !
Overall very nice site and would return if in the area.

We were camping with my daughter, her husband and two children aged 10 an 12, also their two dogs.
We thought it was a lovely site which will be even better next year as I understand that the new toilet block will be open for Easter 2012. Even so, the existing toilets were always clean and there was heating too, which in October was very welcome when showering. The camp shop was small but had the essentials, there is a shop in Landford too.
The children enjoyed the play area, particularly the zip wire, they also used the games room. We all went for walks in the New Forest which was only 5 minutes walk away with direct access from the site. There we saw ponies, donkeys, cows and pigs. I think the pigs are only there in the autumn.
We ate at The Shoe, a short drive from the site. Sunday lunch was 2 for £10, excellent value!
The site was easy to find and there is plenty of room to park whilst in reception. I noticed that there is electric hook up in the late arrivals part which was a very good idea.
There are lots of places to visit, we went to Beaulieu Palace and Motor Museum, also the small museum in Lyndhurst. All in all a very pleasant 5 days.

A most pleasant weekend spent at this site! The site owners and staff were most polite and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble!
The entrance and exit routes are well laid out and clearly marked, so, no fear of gridlocks!
The shower and toilet facilities, although old, are kept spotlessly clean and there are plans in place to renew these before the end of 2012!
Fishing the lakes was great for my husband, the only downside for me was no WiFi.
A lovely weekend and we will definitely be going back - this is on our list of favourites!

This was our 4th camping trip this year, we chose this site because it was only an hour and half drive away, plus we hadnt been to the New Forest before.
The site was clean, very pretty and had all that was needed.
We were on the adult bit, but we did have a nose at the rest, the family section is being refurbished and will be finished by early 2012, it looks great already.
The new toilet/shower blocks in the adult section are nice, music playing, 2 toilets and only one shower though, there is a hairdrier, but I always take my own.
The showers on our side had as much hot water as we wanted and they were heated, dated but being replaced.
Washing-up sinks had lots of hot water as well.
Shop was very well supplied.
Staff were polite.
Pitch was more than enough for our large tent and large car.
The price per night with electric hook-up is so cheap, you really are spoilt at this site.
We ate at the Red Rover pub, just down the road, twice and the food was great, service great and very reasonably priced.
We will definitely go back next year, but will go in the warm weather.

We wanted to get a weekend in with our new tent before winter so we picked this one primarily for location. For those like us in the southern Home Counties its a piece of cake to get to even on a Friday night.
We booked in the only family field and immediately had a couple of gripes. The grass pitches had numerous rocks just under the surface which made pegging out a nightmare (we have 80 pegs to put in). Luckily it wasn't too windy so not being able to get them all in wasn't a disaster.
Secondly, when the site is only a quarter full, why do they allocate a pitch right next to someone else. In this case we were next to dysfunctional parents so didn't get a full night's sleep. Whilst the latter is not the camp's fault they should space out when they are nowhere near full.
To round off the negatives before the positives it does have a weird attitude towards children. I know it was previously adults only and I appreciate segregating children overnight but not to allow them even to walk through the 2 adult only fields is a bit off. They quote the usual health & safety nonsense yet there is a lake next to the family area. Bizarre.
Right - off the soapbox and talk up the positives. As I said location is great as its accessible and you are directly next to the eastern edge of the New Forest.
There is money being spent on upgrades and whilst we had to make do with the old portakabin shower blocks (which were fine), the new block is well under construction (aren't they always ??) and looks like it will be completed.
There is a small horseshoe lake which kids can fish at and our girls enjoyed their first ever expedition. There are several good pubs nearby and a Londis on the main road.
Overall not fantastic but wouldn't tell anyone to avoid.

We went as 2 families + dog pitching together in tents and were in the Golden Meadow family area. This is a lovely peaceful site and there is a walk into New Forest open land from the site which is good for exercising the dog.
There is also a dog walking area around the site but dogs have to be kept on the lead here.
Site slightly sloping but not a problem.
Toilet/shower facilities are old and a new block is being built to replace these - in the meantime they are kept clean. We did find there was never any hot water for washing up however.
Site shop seemed well stocked. Good location for driving into New Forest.
Cool blocks can be frozen (free) in the freezer found in the laundry in 'adult only' area.
Nice new wooden children's playground.

This was a great place to spend the weekend camping. The campsite was large and spacious and the staff friendly and helpful.
We camped near to the fishing lake towards the back of the campsite and loved our spot. The ducks and geese added to the charm of the place and it was a lovely spot to pitch a tent.
The old shower block is perfectly adequate with constant hot water so when they open the new one it will be an added bonus.
Good location for getting to and near enough from the main New Forest sites.

We were really disappointed with this site. If you pitch near the lakes then you are crammed in cheek by jowl! In fact we couldn't get our modest motorhome and small awning on the first pitch we were offered so finished up next to the toilets.
The toilets and showers themselves are in tin buildings! Something not mentioned on the website! Granted they are building some new ones, but not in the Adults area. Whilst the toilets were usable, as long as you didn't expect hot water or a hand dryer, I chose not to use the shower.
Also this site is advertised as Adults Only - it isn't. There is an Adults Only area where we were, but to get to the dog walk and the Forest you have to walk through the family area. This is actually very large, with a well equipped play area, take away, more toilets in tin sheds etc. All well and good, but not as advertised.
This site has the potential to be really lovely and it was obvious the owners were making an effort, little flower beds, picnic benches, a good information room etc but basically too many pitches in too small an area with old fashioned, inadequate facilities.
Once all the new amenity blocks are built, and provided you choose a pitch away from the lakes (these are a bit roomier) and you don't mind children close by, then this will be a very pleasant site.
The Forest itself was wonderful, you could walk for miles and we even saw donkeys, as well as the usual ponies and cattle.
