Just returned from a weeks camping on isle of wight, stayed at ninham holidays, near Shanklin. Lovely site with woodland all around and only 10 min cycle from beach. Although we went first week of august , really busy because of Cowes week,( and the weather was little dodgy! ) the pitches were really generous, with lots of mature hedges and trees and lots of space between. My kids loved the fishing lake and the there are numerous footpaths and bridle ways adjacent to the site great for walking the dog
Really nice heated pool also . Could do with some new shower blocks though but apart from that: highly recommended

We camped on Willowbrook which is one of the two fields, and for tourers only. The other field, Orchard has a mix of statics and tourers and contains the pool area, games room and launderette. Our pitch was the standard size with hookup and we had room to park down side of trailer tent. Our field had a modern play area which all three of my children thought was great, and they are 4,9 and 12.
The toilets were always clean, with paper, soap and lots of hot water and I never had to queue for either the shower or washing up area for more than a few mins. Drainage on the pitch itself was excellent. We did have a bit of a noise problem with a bird scarer going off, which nervous dogs might dislike, and the light aircraft from the airport but we learned to ignore it. Our biggest gripe was that a noisy group flaunted the rules over quiet time repeatedly with screaming children, and the warden didn't seem willing to use the ultimate sanction of kicking them off. However the owner assured us they will not be allowed back! It did spoil an otherwise nice site.
We did use the pool twice, kids enjoyed it if a little cold to stay in long. Morrisons ideally placed for food purchases. Cycled to Shanklin, and lots to do all around, TI in Shanklin.
We'd go back to this site, it is always quieter after mid august (after Cowes Week ends). Site does need to find a way to handle large groups, please!?!

We’ve just returned from two great wet and windy weeks at Ninham. Site was lovely and quiet and we were allocated a reasonable sized pitch on the 1st orchard field. The pitch was pretty big but not as big as we had expected having read the reviews from 2008, we were unable to position our tent in the orientation we wanted or use our extra tarpaulin as the guys would have transgressed the pitch boundary. Some pitches did look bigger than others so make sure when booking they know how much space you need.
Shower blocks were adequate for the first week but as the site filled up the 3 male and 3 female showers in our block could not service the 3 - 4 fields on the orchard which lead to queues. There is a games room with 2 pool tables, table football, table tennis and air hockey; the video games are a bit dated but adequate to keep our kids occupied. The washing up facilities, for the orchard fields, are next to the games room (handy for the kids to go and play whilst washing up gets done) so if you are on the furthest field it’s a bit of a trek to do the washing up. The laundry was reasonably priced and not very busy. The pool area was really good and enclosed with a decent pool temperature even on the cooler days. Kids play areas were pretty good with plenty of open space for the kids to run around in, the site goes quiet at around 9pm which is brilliant.
The site is well positioned for visiting the sights with Shanklin approx 5 - 10 min drive, Morrisons is just down the road and you can take a nice walk to Shanklin in about 20 minutes or so.
We would recommend eating at the Waterside Inn on Shanklin esplanade, Crab & Lobster Inn at Bembridge and Spyglass Inn at Ventnor; all are family friendly, reasonably priced but pretty busy. For beaches try Yaverland, at Sandown, for the sand and Seaview for the rockpools.
All in all a good site but could do with increasing the number of showers to cater for the busy periods.

Just returned from a weeks camping at ninham. Had a great time, children enjoyed the games room, we didn't use the pool as the weather wasn't great. When booking, some of the electric hook up pitches are bigger than others so make sure you give your tent measurement as we were unable to park our car down the side of the tent as the pitch wasn't big enough. One other point there was only 3 showers for our particular field which meant often waiting for a shower and the site wasn't full.
Site is well located for site seeing and Morrisons food store is just minutes away. We would return to this site again.

We stayed at this campsite for 5 nights. When we arrived we were taken to our pitches by a gentleman who didn't seem to know where our pitches were supposed to be as the posts had not been put out, despite us booking this the week before. Also, we asked if it would be possible to turn our units to face the inwards and were told no. We did mention that we would be looking out onto a hedge and who wants to look out on a fence. They were reluctant to move us as they said they were 'fully booked' (in the time we were there I can guarantee there were about 20 units on this huge site!) but they did eventually move us to the pitches in front. We didn't feel that the facilities were as 'outstanding' as they claim too be and if you did want to use the washing machine facilities, games room, or pool you would have to walk some distance, unless you were put into the top field.

We really enjoyed this site, so much so that we are back again next year and looking forward to it.
Yes there are rules and we did get a little ticking off for 'unnecessary noise after 9pm' for talking too loud but that's OK by me.
We found the outdoor pool very cold during our stay, so come on chaps give the dial a little tweak for 2010.
We found the arrival field very useful at both ends of our stay for parking the caravan when waiting for a pitch / the ferry.

On a positive note it was extremely quiet and peaceful in a lovely location. However on arrival the reception was shut which happened to be at 3. 30pm although they advertise that their office is open 8 til 8. The site has been established in 1945 and that seems to have been the case for the shower and toilet block as this is in need of refurbishment.
The dishwashing facilities looked as though they had not been cleaned in a long time therefore we ended up washing our dishes in the tent as the facilities were so poor.
The children's outdoor area was tired and overgrown and we did not allow our 3 year old son to play there. We only saw one member of staff who came to see us 2hrs after we arrived no one around.

We have just spent a relaxing fortnight on this lovely site. The owners are very strict about noise and at nine o'clock everything goes quite.
The fishing lake is filled with carp and cost £3 per rod to fish, per day. They have 2 washing machines which take 20 minutes to wash and cost £2.50 the tumble dryer is £1 for 20 mins and if you have the weather we did you will need it.
They have a games room with free table tennis, you supply the rackets and snooker, air hockey etc. The pool is enclosed which is great for younger children but we found it too cold.
Very close to the local morrisons and a short walk to Shanklin which saves on parking. Caravans where well spaced out but all had to be a certain way, caravan awning then car. Some pitches where bigger than others. Pitches by the swimming pool looked better and seemed closer to the facilities.

We have just enjoyed our first holiday on the Isle of Wight. Ninham is in the perfect position, very close to Shanklin and Ventnor.
We found the initial arrival arrangements rather strange. We had to wait in what could be described as a 'holding field' and walk over the next field to the reception to announce our arrival. As we had arrived at 2pm and couldn't have access to the caravan until 3pm we were asked to go back to the field and wait for a phone call. 3pm came and went and at 3.15pm I walked back to reception and was told a man would be along to escort us to the caravan. We were asked to follow him but had to wait while he showed another camper their pitch, another 15 mins.
We stayed in a Leisure Home on the site and we were very impressed with the cleanliness and attention to detail in the caravan. Lots of hot water on demand and heaters in each room. However I took our own bedlinen and expected to have a double duvet on a double bed but there were 2 singles which the owners told me was popular on the continent! They rectified it by giving us 2 single covers. The site was well kept and very clean, however we would not choose to use a touring pitch on the site as the facilities for tourers were very poor - 2 very old shower / toilet blocks and not very clean for a large touring site.
The pool was very clean and lovely well maintained children's play areas for families with young children. There is a games room for slightly older children. The laundry room has 2 washing machines and 2 driers, again very clean.
There was, strangely, no camp shop. Even a very small one with newspapers and other necessities such as milk, bread etc would be useful. A large Morrissons store is a few mins away by car so perhaps the campsite don't feel a campshop is necessary but it is nice to have somewhere to get a few bits and pieces without having to go out in the car.
We loved Shanklin and Ventnor and can highly recommend The Spyglass Inn at Ventnor, overlooking the sea, very friendly, excellent service, all food cooked fresh arriving at the table hot and plenty of it. All in all an excellent holiday but would look around for other campsites if going with our friends who are tourers.

This site is perfect. The owners are friendly and helpful. The pitches are massive ! It is ideal for children, our 6yr old son made loads of friends and loved the park. The supermarket is a 20 min walk down a bridle path, which is the best route as the main road has no pavement for a large stretch. We will definitely be planning another visit soon.We took a trip to The Orchards Camp site as I used to stay there as a child but it was very crammed and commercial. We made the right choice and so will you if you prefer quiet, ideal settings for your holidays. Enjoy.
