Really nice site friendly/helpful owners, no cockerel? no road noise. The only gripe I have is with showers and leaving. I wanted to leave the site early, at 7am went to showers no hot water no shower! The facilities were exceptionally clean and I am planing to stay again, but beware - went to leave site, got out of electric gate and found next set of gates locked! All very nice and secure but if you have plans to be somewhere else a bit annoying. The nearest pub sold real ale that had been kept well, with a quirky nice antique interior with what looked like good food.

Only stayed one night as we were heading further south but I have to say it was brilliant on all counts, especially the wash/shower room.
Our first camping trip and we found the pitches very flat with nice grass, easy to knock pegs in (it was very wet but no stones)
Courtesy lights and water taps around site were also a big plus.
Local shop open late less than 300 mtrs away.
Just one very minor gripe, it is a bit close to the main roads.

We stayed here when our festival was cancelled and after a night and day of very heavy rain. Campers and caravans/ motorhomes are separate but people with their cars were still parked right next to us at one point, and part of the field was inaccessible due to bogginess.
Although close to main roads it is very quiet here - did not hear the rooster at all. Significant wasp problem. Shop OK and staff reasonably helpful when needed.
Facilities were clean and the kitchen area was bigger and better than in other sites I have stayed in.
The location of the site is great if you have no vehicle. It is about 15 mins from the centre of Glastonbury, but you wouldn't know it. Behind the site is great walking across the wetlands (wellies will not keep you dry). Glastonbury itself of course has everything and attracts 2 very different types of visitor - the rather well off tourists and the 'New Age' types - we are much closer to the latter and feel comfortable here. Someone in the tourist centre very superior so felt that the tourist centre probably caters more for the well off, and they do not refer visitors to Avalon as Avalon apparently do not stump up the cash to be listed with them! That was fine by us - we enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others.

What a great site to stumble across for our first camping trip with our 3 year old son!
We arrived in the drizzle and directed to the large camping field but whichever way we tried to direct the car we eventually got totally stuck and had to be rescued by one of the sons in his tractor. He then suggested pitching to the side of the shop as they had had some heavy rainfall and the field doesn't drain well plus had just participated in a children's festival so the ground was nicely churned up!
We were directly opposite all of the facilities and the family wash rooms (2 of them) were a decent size with nappy changing, should you need it. The shower wasn't great on pressure but certainly warm.
Approx 8 sinks with drainers to accommodate the necessary plus as mentioned in a previous report a sizeable freezer to stick the cool blocks in.
There isn't electric for the tents ordinarily and wish that we'd brought our lead and fridge as in light of their kindness at moving us we could have done with it.
Wookey Hole was a great day out as was Haynes Motor Museum plus much much more that we couldn't pack into 3 nights.
Glastonbury is a great town, loosing yourself for hours (if allowed) and felt quite safe. It has a large Morrisons which is easily found. The 'Who'd A Thoughts It' Pub provided us with first class food at a good price and the Thatchers Gold was very welcomed!
We will be back and the Isle of Avalon certainly 'aint broke, so why change it' attitude with friendly family run staff plus the knowledge that anyone to enter with a motor must have be registered and provided with a fob to open the barrier.

We love Glastonbury as a town and was not aware of this site. The owner was friendly and directed us to the tent field. She advised us to avoid a taped off area as it was still a bit boggy from previous heavy rain. Facilities were good, shop was well stocked. 10 minutes walk and you are in Glastonbury high street. The Tor and Abbey are well worth a visit and there are plenty of pubs which do good food as well as real ale and local cider. There are many shops of a mythical magical nature which are good to browse around. We will return.

Our second visit to this well looked-after site which is easily found and only a 10 minute walk from the centre of Glastonbury.
We were offered a pitch in amongst the caravans near the facilities, which we didn't particularly fancy . We gladly accepted a pitch facing the camping field, close to where we pitched on our last visit.
Loads of space on the camping field -if you don't need leccy.
The cockerel didn't bother us although some 'weekend' campers arrived and played excessively loud music until they we're told off by the owner! still 'partied' until the small hours though.
We have no complaints about the site. We enjoyed our stay. Apart from the selfish & ignorant campers (and they get everywhere, don't they?)and the persistant rain & we're not blaming Avalon for that!
A fine, well-run site with superb facilities.
Our next visit there will be a midweek stay with sunshine - that would be sheer bliss!
Whole-heartedly recommended!

Just back from a lovely weekend away staying at the Isle of Avalon with a couple of friends
This is the second time we've visited this site - Last year in August when it was pouring with rain and then in blazing sunshine
It's a well run site with restricted access which means you feel very safe leaving your tent and all its belongings
The facilities are very clean and plentiful with lovely hot free showers which come with a decent sized changing area
The site is close to the centre of Glastonbury and well within walking distance but although there is a little road noise its actually very quiet and peaceful
We camped on the other side of the field from the cockerel so didn't get disturbed by him
Definitely would camp there again

I cannot sing the praises of this site highly enough.
I do not know whether it was the weather (last weekend in may 75 degrees) but we had a truly relaxed 3 nights. Facilities are tremendous good shop well stocked with food and caravan & camping supplies. Brilliant showers, toilets and washing up facilities. Enormous freezer to put your stuff in (free of charge).
Lovely flat level tent field. Next time we go we will not have ehu so we can be nearer to the bottom of the field and enjoy the views better (and be further away from the cockerels).
Lots to do and see in town which is only 15 minute walk away.Lots of alternative type shops.Had a lovely couple of pints of palmers dorset gold in the who'd of thought it inn. The views from the tor are awesome and worth the trek up it.
Overall the best site we have used so far and the only site we have said that we will go back to every year we enjoyed it that much!

Great Site, look forward to returning. Toilet/showers A1, very spacious, very clean, lots of free hot water and never had to wait - even though 23rd May 09 bank holiday weekend. The staff were great, very helpful. Site flat, well stocked shop and great bacon butties in the morning. Whilst site busy still had plenty of space. Earlier review about cockerel right - Glastonbury town centre OK, best pub is the 1st you see walking into town (on the right, can't remember name) great beers and food pretty damn good also. As on motorbikes we got around, Brecon Beacons lovely and roads so rideable, Weston-super-mare & Burnham on sea good. Cannot wait to go back. (P.S £12.00 well worth the price).

I've been to this site before and was very impressed, so was eager to return again when I visited the area.
I'm pleased to report that the standard of the site is still fantastic - the staff are friendly and helpful, the shop is well-stocked and there is lots of tourist information available, more so than Glastonbury TIC!
The toilet blocks are still of a very high standard, with plenty of room and plenty of hot water, also spotless, couldn't fault them at all. Washing up facilities also fantastic - nothing worse than having to queue up to do those dull chores!
Overall, would still recommend this site. Word of warning though, the infamous cockerel is still there, so do what we did and pitch at the other side of the field - foresight is everything!
