We've just come back from our Bank Holiday stay at Folly Farm and what a pleasure!
We found a quiet secluded spot in the second field and even though it was busy, was quiet. Charlie and the other workers at the site were extremely helpful and always stopped to say hello and to offer helpful advice. The location is great, only a couple of miles from Bourton and the other villages. There is also a great pub called The Plough Inn in Cold Aston which you can reach through a couple of fields.
The only thing, like the other reviews, is that the shower and toilet facilities while adequate, are very basic. There are 4 sinks for washing up and an plug and shaver socket.
However, something very minor for such a good site and will definatly be returning.

August 2005 Folly Farm is a friendly quiet site, it is an ideal base for visiting many parts of the Costwoulds, Ideal for families but children may find it a bit quiet. There are two things that let this site down, the facilities are only very basic and of very low standard. They would also benefit from a DAILY cleaning, (There was tissue paper stuffed down the side of the sink in the gents when we arrived and it was still there when we left). The flippin cockrel starts at dawn and is quickly followed by the hens roaming round the tent looking for food.
Charlie the guy who looks after the place is very friendly, but as we arrived he was off for a few days R & R so we didnt get to see much of him. I dont think it would break the bank for the owners to provide at least a Dusk to Dawn light in the washing / washing up area, and spend a bit on upgrading the toilets/showers to make your stay more comfortable.

August 2005 Excellent location for exploring the Cotswolds. The field was perfectly level to pitch a tent on. A very, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The web site describes that they have very basic facilities - yes they do but they are effective. We went thinking the worst and was pleasantly surprised. It is better to have a site be honest than to fail to mention the fact that the facilities are basic. The showers take 50p pieces which lasts for about 5 minutes. It had everything we needed and being only 2.5 miles out of Bourton, if you need shop it's a short drive away. We arrived on a thursday and there were only a few others in the field, once friday came, the field was almost full. I expect at peak times (bank hols etc.) it would be crammed with very little space between neighbours as the pitches are not marked out, you just up tent wherever. Having only 2 showers could be a problem in busy times. We would go back to this site, without hesitation.

August 2005 Folly Farm is a lovely quiet site, it is ideal for single people, or families with older children but not for young ones. There are two things that let this site down, the facilities are very basic and of very low standard, and that damn cockrel starts at 5am! Charlie the guy who looks after the place is very nice and will go out of his way to make your stay comfortable.
There is one pub within walking distance through a field, the pub doesn't really cater for the younger child and can be expensive. There is no other forms of entertainment on site, or within walking distance.
Apart from that there is loads to visit in the surronding villages, which I think will appeal to all ages, but nothing opens till 10/10.30am!?

August 2005 Pitches OK - Site warden very friendly. Facilities very basic - not enough toilets or showers and no lighting in the toilets. Also could do with more cleaning when site is busy. It would appear there are no rules aroung noise at night - we were kept awake until 1am by noisy campers. Also chickens roaming loose on the site and the cockrels start calling as soon as it gets light (5am this week)

July 2005 Once again we had a great time at this campsite. This was our first visit of the year and we were slightly disappointed to see there had been no additions to the toilet / shower block. It would have been nice to have seen some additional toilets and showers as on a busy weekend there simply isn't enough of these.
However this is just a minor gripe as we have nothing but praise for this site. It's clean, extremely well priced and expertly run as ever by Charlie. This is an excellent site for exploring the surrounding countryside. We will certainly be visiting this site again soon.

May 2005 We have just returned from Folly Farm, and would report as follows. The site itself is very much as described, with what I would describe as an extended paddock, with trees and enclosed on 3 sides by dry stone walls. The facilities are basic, but clean. The showers could do with a service to get the most in terms of pressure and heat out of them, but this was such a minor point compared to the plus sides that it really didn't bother me.
Charlie the resident warden/manager is a top guy, very laid back and extremely helpful. There isn't far to go to get to a shop and life beyond the site, but if you just want to chill out in front of your unit, it is very relaxing. If you do have children, do take a couple of outside type games as there isn't any kids play equipment. There are chickens and a Peacock that roam the site during the day, and these can entertain as well! Would I go back? Yes, for a few days at a time this site is ideal for using as a base to explore the stunning local area.

May 2005 Lovely spot, unfortunately it was a bank holiday weekend with sunny weather predicted so the site was jam packed which was just about okay. Down side was the large group next to us that kept us awake half the night once they came back from the pub ! Then the resident peacock is as effective as a cockerel so not much lie in, ear plugs would have been a bonus ! Facilities pretty basic but okay although could have used some extra cleaning with it being so busy.

April 2005 Spoke to Charlie, who manages the site. Very nice helpful guy who gave good directions to site. Site is a small field a short drive from a main road. Although, far enough for their to be little noise. Shower/toilet are clean enough and the site is conveniently located for some good walks.

September 2004 Having pre-booked to meet up with our friends, we arrived on site at around 20:00 only to be greated by proberbly the most laid back host we've met since camping (about 4 years now). It made a refreshing change to be told "Your friends are over there, park up where you like and I'll be over when you've got yourselves settled". Now I have no objection to organised membership sites, but this made a real change to be able to arrive at any time, to get sorted and pay in the morning and not to be hit with as many do's and dont's guidlines that it makes you feel like your in quarentine rather than on a weekend break enjoying the great british countryside.
IF ONLY MORE SITES WERE LIKE THIS ONE.
