I have visited this camp site a few times now in recent weeks and my visits were midweek so not particularly busy but certainly not deserted.

Easy enough to find but a satnav will not quite deliver you there. As you exit the motorway take the first left and follow the road about half a mile, take the right turn signposted Dunston Heath. Continue down this road, across the bridge, past the fencing place on the left and continue until you see a turning to the right. Take this right turn and continue a few hundred metres where the turning to the farm is on the right and there is a small sign confirming this. Opposite this turn there is a post on the left with a wooden fish nailed to it pointing where to go! Follow the track down and to the right and into the main field.

I cant comment for caravan owners as I am a tent user, and rarely camp anywhere else as I have a reason for being in Stafford, so size wise not sure how the field stacks up in comparison to others. Would not say it was particularly huge though. The site is near the M6 and you can hear the traffic but the sound is not IMHO intrusive and because it is a continuous hush in the end you barely notice it. In fact the nearby trains are louder but again nothing to keep you awake at night.

The facilities are limited, one shower, one toilet, and a couple of sinks in the block, I can imagine this might get busy in peak times though I personally have never had to wait for anything. A 50p piece buys you 7 or 8 minutes in the shower or hot water from the sink. The facilities are well maintained, very well maintained in fact and I have always found them to be clean and tidy.

The farm staff are friendly and chatty and a good source of local information. The site is quiet at night and I always sleep well there. I paid £6 per night to pitch a 1 man tent, or a rather a Fox Evolution Bivvy! As mentioned the dogs will check you out and are quite playful. Expect all the usual animal sounds, cows mooing etc. It is a working farm at the end of the day.

There is a small fishery for angling, though I have yet to try it out but the reports are encouraging. I hear it has carp and other species but it’s not the sort of place full of specialist carp anglers carting thousands of pounds worth of gear around it. More a small pleasure lake looking the ideal place for a spot of float fishing, a bottle of red wine and a Cuban stogie on a nice summers evening. I may not afford posh hotels so easily but I know how to live !

For shopping etc. Stafford has pretty much everything nearby, just across from the motorway exit there is a pub, and food facilities, and one of those Wacky Warehouse type places where your kids can let off steam, further into town is Tescos off the main road, plus Asda, and a Sainsburys also nearby. On the Lichfield Road further along is Pizza Hut, Kentucky and a Frankie and Bennies. The whole of Stafford seems to be fast food overload with all manner of take aways occupying every other shop. I’m a salad, soup and granary bread person myself but your mileage may vary!

Going the other way into Penkridge you will find a fish and chip shop on the left.

I took a hike around the local area as well and it is a very pleasant place with small country lanes that are not that busy and relatively safe for walking. I was hoping to find a nearby pub within walking distance selling bubbling pints of real ale but so far not come across one.

To sum up, all in all a pleasant experience, clean and tidy, friendly owners and staff and a nice location. Good value for money and a site I would commend without any hesitation.

Lovely site. Cost £8 a night for our 6 berth tent. Lots of caravans were there but only 2 tents, which meant our 4 children were quite happy running round like loonies in a big empty field - made up for the lack of playground!

Really lovely people who run the place, the toilet block was really tidy and clean, and although we were really close to the motorway there was no noise whatsoever. It was really handy for a stopover to go to Alton Towers from.

We found the directions a bit hard to follow and did take a wrong turn to get there, but we'll definitely return the next time we need a stopover on the way up the M6.

This site is still the same, great location, easy access from the M6, close to Penkridge, Stafford and Cannock Chase, but I wonder why the price has now increased to £12 per night? I know costs have to increase, but this seems a bit over the top. I would expect hardstandings and more facilities for this price. Unfortunately this will put us off staying there in the future which is a pity as it's a great stopover.

Arrived on site during a wet and windy Bank Holiday Week-end - Didn't get to meet John the owner until a couple of days later, but was shown around by his assistant, a nice lady who was actually a season resident there.

The sites quite nice, suitable for both caravans and Tents with the EHU's sited at the top of the field near the farm buildings, as we didn't require eclectic we settled ourselves at the bottom of the field where the tents mainly are (Don't do this if you are pulling a caravan, unless you are confident your car can get you back up the field during wet conditions)

The toilet block does not look very inviting from the outside but are very clean and functional, but be aware that they are communal and are not for people who are shy (my wife walked out of the shower room and found a half naked man having a wash and shave - naked from the top down I must add)

The fishing on site is excellent and well laid out with carp in abundance (no floating bait though)

There is a market in penkridge village which is quite nice where you can find anything you want with pubs and the usual eateries - All in all a nice site which I would go back to, but perhaps not a Bank holiday week-end as it was really busy with about 25 caravans and about the same amount of campers - a little too much for a CL I think.

Had a wonderful time on this site, nice place to relax, the Owner & Staff were very friendly and helpful. It was my first time camping so all help was gratefully appreciated. Everyone is happy & helpful, I would thoroughly recommend taking up camping.

With 3 toilets & only 1 shower I thought there would be queues but it was always empty. I even got serenaded whilst washing up, but I don't think the couple in the shower realised I was there. But their singing bought a smile to a few faces.

I'd travelled from Dorset and was going to Chester Zoo & Twycross so it was ideally located. But of course there's so much more to do, wish I could have stayed longer but I have to go back to work tomorrow. Not like a very nice couple I met that had just retired. What a life I can't wait till I retire now.

Thanks John for a great stay, Will take you up on the offer of Milking the cows next time.

What a find, used this site as a stop over on our way to Wales! Very close to motorway, but not so close as you can hear it.

£9 with electric, fishing pond on site, plenty of room for ball games, nice walks, pubs in village lovely.

Their dogs were constant visitors to our children and kept our 5 year old entertained for hours, but beware they love (and pop) footballs ha ha!

Only 2 toilets and 1 shower, so not sure how they would cope if they got full, but the people who own this site are lovely and really helpful, and the facilities were kept clean with cleaning materials available if you had made them muddy!

50p pieces needed for the showers and 20p pieces for hot water to wash up.

Do not rely on your sat nav either as it takes you about half a mile in the wrong direction! Get close by and give them a ring and they will direct you from there!

Will be going again.

Nice little site with friendly owners (and dogs). We stayed here for one night basically to give our tents an airing and get back into the groove. Had some terrible rain storms Saturday night / Sunday morining but still managed to fire up the BBQ.

Very tranquil site not much noise and ideal if you like fishing as it has its own pool.

Had a walk to the The Crown pub at Hyde Lea (I think) took about half an hour to walk it, does serve food normally but they had a technical hitch at the time of our visit.

Not a lot else in the vaccinity on foot but a ten minute drive to Penkridge or Stafford to get back to urban civilisation.

Overall excellent value for money £6 a night adequate Toilet and Shower facilities, never had to queue 50p for a shower and 20p for hot water.

Would recommend for 2 or 3 night stay.

Used this as a stop over on our journey up the M6. Facilities small and initially I was worried about the unisex toilet/shower. However, everybody extremely helpful and everytime I used the toilet/shower there was never anybody there! Very quiet and peaceful considering how close it is to the motorway. You can't argue at the price or the friendliness of the dogs!

We used this site to split our journey to the Lake District as we have two young children (2 & 5 years old) it has close proximity to the M6 which we wanted and was excellent value for money.

As other reviewers we found the owners and the staff very friendly with plenty of space for the kids to run around with the two dogs Missy & Bob!

We spent two nights one going up and the other on the way back - whilst the facilities where basic they were well maintained and for £8 a night including electric hook-up we couldn't complain.

This is a working farm, we were made to feel very welcome and would recomend for a passing visit.

We visited this site in appalling weather so did not see it at its best. The owner and farm staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a unisex toilet block which did not seem big enough for 12 units but was always clean and tidy. Apart from this the site only has a fishing pool which my husband thought excellent. This is an extra charge. There are plenty of EHU points but they are all centrally located so you need a long lead. It is a working farm and, for us, the novelty of farm dogs and ferral cats soon wore off. The access road was very muddy but the owner assures us this will be gravelled this year. Penkridge is two and a half miles away with several shops. Tesco and Asda are three miles in the opposite direction. We will be going back for the fishing!
