Great campsite thanks to mark and sam for 3 great days in the peak sadly it rained a lot.
Thanks for the hot showers we needed them. Next year I will be taking all our sons x3 for a long trip. Site was quiet at night time, well organised site. Shops and pubs just up the road.
Campsite was well draining. The washing unit was great hot water when needed. Safe site for young children even with a small stream running in the middle of the site all the kids loved it. We pitched on the far side of the stream which was great at night.

Just returned from 3 nights at this site, and overall really enjoyed our stay. The fact that it's tents only and that you can't park on the field is a bonus for me as it gave the place a very peaceful atmosphere. There weren't marked pitches so you could go where you wanted, but be wary of the deceptive slope - we discovered when we went to bed that what we thought was a flat spot in the top field definitely wasn't! They don't try to cram you in like other sites I've used, and the 'full' sign was on the gate long before I would have considered it full. We didn't see the staff much other than when we booked in, but they magically appeared on the one occasion other campers ignored the noise curfew, and peace was quickly restored.
Facilities are a little dated but clean, sturdy and never busy, even when the site was, and the showers always hot (very welcome when you return from a long damp hike!). Take 20p's for the showers and read the instructions!
Of the 2 pubs nearby we found the staff in the Ramblers rather officious so went to the Nags instead where they were helpful and chatty. Food a little expensive but portions were huge (apart from the chicken burger which was rather disappointing for £8.50), and I recommend the Nags Black as a very good pint.
The only downside was that the trainline through Edale station was nearby, and we were woken up a few times by trains running in the middle of the night. But please don't let that put you off, it's a gem of a site in a great location for walking, and I will be returning in the future.

Possibly the prettiest campsite in the Peak District?
My girlfriend and I moved here from the Waterside Farm borstal and campsite just down the road having been driven away by a combination of Duke of Edinburgh kids and my moaning, and unfortunately we only got one night here. Shame, as this is a cracking little site.
It was while avoiding our fellow campers the previous night that we accidentally happened upon Fieldhead and we were immediately taken with how picturesque it was. Spread over two, shaded levels with a central stream it resembles a professionally landscaped garden more than a campsite. £11 per night for 2 adults, a tent and a car. The showers as stated cost 20p for 2 minutes. How can this place cost the same as the purgatory just down the road? Madness.
One tiny criticism. The campsite authorities are never there. We arrived at 10am on Wednesday. There was already a sign on the office door saying come back at 5pm to pay. We got there at 6pm to discover the office was closed until 9am the following morning. Maybe it's just me but I like to “touch base” when arriving at a campsite, find out the “do's and don't's” etc. See a human face, and I didn't really feel as though I had any right to be there until I had paid for our stay the following morning (at 8am). Essentially a tiny problem but one which is easy enough rectify and it would have set my mind more at ease.
If I liked the Peak District enough to revisit (and I don't) I would definitely use this as a base. However, booking in advance, especially for the weekend, would be essential. It is a small site and fills up very quickly.

Great campsite; would recommend! The facilities are good, clean toilets, showers (hot in the afternoon) and washing up facilities. Like everyone else says, don't let the fact that you can't take your car by your tent put you off. But do remember to book a parking space if you want to park on-site. We didn't and it wasn't too much of a problem. Came here to camp and explore Kinder Scout, Kinder Downfall etc. Weather was bad most of the weekend but still had a fab time and the drainage on all the fields look good.

We spent a very wet few days here in May but despite the truly awful weather this site is lovely.
The site compromises of 4 or 5 small fields, each with its own outlook. Every corner of this site will give you either a wonderful view or cosy seclusion.
The fact that you cannot park your car next to your unit is a real bonus, and don't let this put you off as the car park is central to the site and is a minutes walk from the furthest part of the site.
The car park is only small, and shared with the brilliant Peak District Visitors Centre right next door so thought it a bit raw that we had to pay for the car, but in fairness is still good value overall.
We are told that at weekends and bank holidays it is very busy, so would recommend booking at these times.
The staff were very helpful and were happy enough that they wouldn't get paid until the day after our arrival. Also helped us with local camping shops for running repairs, (next village of Hope).
Toilets and showers (20p for 2 mins, though 60p for 6 mins sounds better) were adequately clean though we accept that we were there at a quiet time. They are also central to the site and are not far from all corners of the site.
The village of Edale is basically 2 pubs and a small shop, though is a perfect base for walkers of different levels of enthusiasm. The pubs are fine and served good choice of real ales though we did not like the prices of the food.
In all, we would definitely recommend this site, and will take the kids next time.

We have just had a four night stay at this wonderful little site.
As mentioned in other reviews you cant get your car near to your pitch unless you are on one of the top fields but don't let this put you off its worth the effort lugging your gear to the lower fields.
The site itself is pretty basic and has only the basic amenities, showers, toilets, drying room and washing up room but having said this they were all clean and serviceable however the instructions for the showers need to be read carefully.
The site is perfect as a base for walking and there are many local footpaths all well marked.
The local shop is reasonably well stocked and only a 5 minute walk.
We found the Nags Head head is a wonderful pub having both a roaring fire and beer that is capable of reducing brain matter to useless purple goo (I refer to the 1577 ) a beer brewed to commemorate the opening of the pub.
The food is nothing special but if you have been on the hills all day its welcome if you don't feel like cooking.
All in all a brilliant site and at the risk of making it more popular I would recommend it to anyone first timers or seasoned campers alike.

Just got back from a over night stay at the fantastic site. I stayed there with my wife and our 6 year old son.
The site was in a great location the view is out this world. The facilities were very nice clean and tidy and in very good order.
I did think that not having the car next to the tent would be a problem but I was not at all.
It is within 5min walk of 2 pubs but one was closed till the end of the month. So we hiked (5min) to the ramblers inn and they serve a fantastic pint the food looked good but never tried it out.
The walks in the area are for plenty to take. The Pennine way is on the door step.
Over all we had a fantastic stay and will be going back soon.

Good facilities, although the showers were cold in the afternoon. Of the two local pubs I would recommend the Old Nags Head for food. Despite the rather heavy rain before & during our 4 night stay the pitches were reasonable. Will definitely be returning next year or maybe later this year as the site is well located for climbing, walking & cycling. The site office opening hours seem to change, but there is a sign displayed for the next opening.

This is a lovely campsite with fantastic scenic views. It caters only for tents and there are no hook ups. The toilets / shower facilities are well maintained and we always had hot water. There is a local general store just down the road and two pubs within a 5 min walk. The site contains the Moorlands Centre which is well worth a look around. The ground is well drained and the pegs go in easily. There is a lovely level circular walk which takes about 45 mins. Great for walking the dogs. It is also the start of the Pennine Way long distance footpath for those into hill walking. Edale Station is just down the road and the trains frequently trundle past day and night but we did not find them intrusive. We cannot say what it is like high season but when we went it was quiet and the rugged charm of the Peak District made this an unforgettable stay and we will definitely be going back again!

We went to Fieldhead for our very first camping adventure. It was only one night, but I think we picked an excellent site, about 25 miles away from home.
We didn't know what to do when the notice on the door said just pitch your tent and come back later! However, found a nice place facing the hills, put the tent up in 15 mins and then spent a while thinking now what, but soon found things to do!
The major thing we noticed about the site is that the camp was nowhere near full in terms of what I would think is full, there was loads of space between tents and there was a full sign on the gate! We were told when we phoned that we didn't need to book as they weren't that busy, but we asked to anyway, and good job we did as when we arrived the sign was already up! This was a Thursday afternoon.
The site itself was clean, well-kept and reasonably quiet. Someone's dogs kept barking and the trains were quite noisy, but nothing that really bothered us. The 'hosts' were very friendly, as were other people on the site, who inevitably you end up bumping into several times as it's such a small village!
Didn't think much to the Nags Head pub, food pretty poor and overpriced. Would have been okay if scampi and chips had been £5 instead of near enough £10! Beer okay though! Will try Ramblers next time.
All in all a great experience and we will be going back! When our new airbed arrives . Our airbed on the night went down at least 3 times but still hasn't put us off!
