March 2004 Very pleasant peaceful campsite with beautiful views between Mam Tor and Kinder Scout. The site is divided into about five small fields at different levels between the river and the road, mainly level and reasonably sheltered with fences, hedges, walls etc. Basic but clean facilities, close to Edale station and with two great pubs within yards of the entrance, this is the site to consider when embarking on the Pennine Way. There is slight noise from the nearby rail track but you soon get used to it (the sheep were more disturbing after a while). I will always be using Fieldhead from now on.

July 2003 A nice site in THE prime walking area in Derbyshire, small with VERY limited parking space. (25 cars only but parking is available elsewhere in the village). Tents only are allowed, no caravans, motor homes etc with the camping areas divided up into small areas. A river runs by the site which was a nice location, probably bad with midges though. A popular site with the good shower / toilets / washing up / drying room facilities in the middle of the site. The showers were a RIP OFF on a token system (50p each) which you have to buy during the day from the site office. Tokens lasted 2.5 minutes and the water was lukewarm to mildly hot and the token machine is on the outside of the cubicle. Not enough showers really but OK with good washing area and separate dish washing room. Toilet paper is provided but not regularly, probably best to take your own. Ear plugs would be advisable for light sleepers as the site is very close to the railway line with freight / passenger trains running late night (after 11pm) and early morning (from 6 am). Livestock noise minimal. The site has the Tourist centre as well which is very useful for walks / weather forecasts etc. The "Rambler" pub is 2 mins walk away with good real ales and top quality food. Watch out for the "Folk Train" which runs roughly every 3 weeks from either Sheffield or Manchester to Edale station, into the Rambler and then back on the train. Times available from the TIC.

june 2003 A very friendly family run site. Clean, quite and for tents only. The walking is excellent and with two pubs in close proximaty it makes for a great weekend. Try a weds night at the rambler pub, a few hundred yards from the site, they have a Folk night which was great fun! The only down side is very limited parking on site. So be sure to book well in advance.

May 2003 Great location for walkers as you can walk out of Edale itself. The train stop also means that you can walk to any stops along the line and return easily.
There wasn't much choice of food in Edale. What there was either carb-loading or expensive. Fortunately the train meant you can spend the evening elsewhere and still have a beer or two.
There were too few showers and they operated by a £0.50 token that you have to place into a slot outside the shower cubicle. There is limited water even at 7am in the morning. In a group of 12, usually very clean people, nobody wanted to use the shower facilities and they lessened our enjoyment of what was otherwise a great weekend.

May 2003 Great little site with limited car parking (in a seperate area on site) so advisable to book in advance. Other parking is available locally.
Two pubs within a very short distance, we went to The Rambler which served excellent food and drink!
The facilities on site were not great and too small for the number of people. Hot showers (via 50p token) should not be taken at face value as they were luke warm/ cold.
Very pleasant location with great views and a stream running through the site.

A nice friendly site for tents only, in the centre of Edale. It's located 5 mins walk from the railway station, two nice pubs and has great views.
The site is divided into small camping areas, with the showers, and pot washing facilities in the centre.
It's a very popular site, so it's advisable to book in advance especially at weekends.
