August 2005 Backpacked into the site last friday night at 8pm. Checked before hand, if you are backpacking there is no need to book. lovely flat pitches and plenty of space, or there is unless a group decide to pitch their tent within a metre of yours at 10pm. there are no marked pitches and it's a bit of a free for all to get where you can.
The site's toilets and wash rooms are spotless would use again BUT ONLY FOR BACKPACKING. No vehicle access to the site so if you have a large tent and all your kit it's a logistical nightmare to get your stuff to the pitch.
Just a note about Edale 2 pubs both serving terrible food at equally expensive prices, £15 for a burger and chips and a childs pizza and chips made it an expensive weekend overall.

July 2005 This was our first camping trip (since childhood), so we were very excited about it! Unfortunately, the weekend saw an unforseen downpour of rain, which almost stopped us from coming! However, we changed our minds and decided to brave it!
We chose Fieldhead over Laneside as they allowed us to take our Staffordshire Bull Terrier (laneside would not). They also did not ask for a deposit up front and we paid upon arrival.
Fieldhead is a well maintained site in a lovely quiet location. We stayed in a field at the bottom which is right next to a running stream (lovely sound of running water). At the forefront of the campsite is the Edale visitor centre, which is ideal for emergency items and walking guidebooks! All of the walks started at the visitors centre, so this made things even easier.
The campsite has male and female toilets with 3 showers in each (20p for 3 minutes). No hand drying facilities or soap! There is also a washing room (for dishes etc) and heated drying room for your wet clothes!
For our first campsite, we were very impressed with fieldhead. It was nice and tidy, and "checking in" was easy enough. I suppose this is the case with all campsites!
The only downside to Fieldhead is the small car park. It was fully booked when we arrived, but luckily a cancellation allowed us to park for a small fee. Otherwise it was a 400mt walk to the local car park (not ideal with camping gear). You cannot park your car next to your pitch.
Nearby to Fieldhead is a general store. It is not massively stocked, but is ideal for food top ups and medical supplies. The staff were also very friendly.
Overall, we would recommend Fieldhead and would happily return here. Well done to the staff.

July 2005 A lovely site and perfect for keeping small people in one place.
We camped in the small bottom field by the river. Bit of a mistake as regardless of mossi spray we were eaten alive. Very friendly site and everyone enjoyed the group frisbee sessions (sorry to the german family who got their coffees wiped out by the essex boys!)
One niggle was we pre-booked in 2 tents and 5 people, one person was unable to come but they insist we paid the £4.50 a night for them as originally booked even though the tentage was not increased / decreased. So that was £13.50 spent uneccessarily. Also as with every other person on the planet we landed the day school broke up so all the pitch fees were increased!
Facilities good, toilets and showers were clean and maintained. We will be going back!

May 2005 Although the weather was not the best, I found the campsite to be delightful. Edale is a lovely little village and a great base to go hill walking from in the Peak District. However the two pubs seemed to be a little expensive for the beer and food. The village also has two cafes and a post office / store which were adequate for our needs. Fieldhead has extensive facilities, information centre and a national park ranger base - good for local information.
The campsite itself is in a great location with a choice of fields and even a river running through it! Good clean facilities and friendly staff. Will visit again.

March 2005 Easter Weekend, site full, all facility blocks have been re-decorated since last year. New digitaly controled showers ensure hot showers for all. Very friendly helpful staff. Added bonus of National park Information centre/Ranger base on site. Terrific views with sites and sounds of the countryside in all directions. A very popular great little site, just got better. Cost, 2 people / 1 tent / 1 car £10.00. Have paid a lot more for a lot less all over UK.

March 2005 A pleasant weekend was had. Facilities in Edale are good. Easy to obtain a reasonably priced meal but nothing other than standard pub fare. The Rambler run out of beer on Sunday night! Campsite average faciliies but a little overpriced. Car parking and showers were extra. Hot water was hit and miss. Particuarly after a hard day's walking hunting around for 20ps to get a cold shower was not funny. Cleaning of the toilet facilites is not wonderful. The box which tells you how long you have is outside the cubicle! Quiet campsite - we didn't find the railways a particular problem, but the crows nesting nearby start squawking at 4am!

February 2005 Probably the best Edale campsite if you're traveling up from somewhere like London on a Friday night. You can pitch up late at night (emailed beforehand to check this). Open all year round so good for a bit of snowy walking.
The other reviews cover basic facilities (all fine) but this site gets my vote for proximity to the train, pubs and hassle-free late-night pitching.

August 2004 This is a really beautiful campsite made up of several small areas which are all fairly secluded from each other with walls and trees. This was good when there was large groups staying, as it meant you could still have your own area to relax in. Amenities are excellent, although the car park gets very busy even though spaces have been reserved. Will be going there again.

04 / 06 June 2004 Just got back today! A great camp site, a couple of minutes from the train station, in a perfect location for walking! Start of the Pennine Trail is a couple of minutes up the road, and from there, you can walk around all the hills in the surrounding area. I spent 9 hours walking around the footpaths yesterday, and there's still lots more to explore.
The campsite has all the facilities you might need and a nice little stream running past the bottom area =oD everyone was very friendly too!
Both cafes and the general store were also quite good, although I didn't try any of the pubs on this visit... but I will do next time.
Will definitely be coming back soon!

May 2004 Clean, well run site although this is one of only a few which are approved for use by youth/school groups so it was half full of supervised kids. Whilst they seem well behaved this may not be to all tastes. As other visitors have mentioned the showers are tempremental which we mentioned to the warden. Situated halfway between Edales two pubs (400yds either way) the only shop was on Coopers campsite (400yds away) which stocked the bare essentials (no off licence!). On site visitor centre is excellent for weather, wildlife, local area info. Excellent for outdoor sports, walking and mobile phones only work up the mountains!!
