I've camped here a few times now, both solo and leading groups from Notts Uni.
Really friendly staff, can always get them by radio if not around, sell a few choccy bars etc if people forget for their walks, and prices are top notch, especially for the DofE Society.
I've always had nice large pitches, away from busy roads, railways and the like, and haven't suffered any loud groups at night (quiet after 10pm).
Nice and flexible being able to turn up at 1AM and pitch then just pay before leaving in the morning.
Facilities are good - showers with plenty of hot water, toilets, and a washroom for those ruddy Trangia stoves. Remember to take your 20p coins for the shower though, and read the instructions carefully!
Convenient location too - right next to visitors centre, short walk to some good hills, close to Kinder plateu, and few minutes walk onto the Pennine Way, so a great stop-off point!
Have been warned off the Nag's Head pub a couple of times but have been in 4 or 5 times now and it's been brilliant - quality food, some decent ales on, and really friendly atmosphere. Ramber's pub a bit further south is good too. Post Office, corner shop nearby, and just a few minutes walk to the train station.
Certainly would recommend and will use for years to come :)

Have visited before, many years ago and wanted to see if it was a suitable base for some walking later in the year with my daughter.
I wasn't disappointed, booking in was painless in comparison to other sites I've been to.
The site owners are around if you need them, and were very friendly, and although there were two large school groups there, noise wasn't a problem. Great base for walks up to Kinder and across to Castleton, and both pubs served good beer.
Site is dog friendly, not just dog tolerant, and I'm looking to go again very soon.

We've just come back from a lovely 4 day stay at this campsite.
Overall I think its a lovely location, great layout with 5 or 6 smaller 'fields' to choose between. We were camping with a 2 and 4 yr old, and were able to be handy for loos and car park, and nowhere near the stream (though I can see that'd be great for older children/people). The car park is small, and I can appreciate you'd need to book at busy times- parking is at a premium in Edale.
The visitors centre was handy, and at the bottom of the village there is a well hidden play area ( empty when we found it). We were there for a spoon carving course in the village hall, so the site was very handy.
We were advised against the pub at the top of the village, and tried the Ramblers for food (under new management according to the signs)which was perfectly adequate, nothing outstanding but to be fair it was a very wet, very quiet day for them.
So,almost everything was fabulous, but just a couple of gripes:
I found the showers expensive: 20p for 2 minutes, and despite (as following instructions) running sink taps hot before starting shower, still had cold for the first 30 secs of 2 minute shower. You can put up to 3 coins in for 6 minutes max. They were also dark- manageable but too dark for children to shower in happily.
The warden told me that as its off-season they only turn the shower lights on 8.30-10.30 am to save energy, which I found didn't fit in with us at all ( and my husband had evening showers with lights on in the cubicles!). Also, I felt the running water for 5 minutes to get the shower working wasn't too environmentally friendly, nor the 700 ml cold water bursts from the tap (we could tell from how quick we filled our water bottles)!
The washing up facilities were fine, but the hot water wasn't always hot, or even warm.Of the 4 days there, I got hot water from the tap there once- and we did a fair amount of washing up with 4 of us! One occasion when it was absolutely cold, there was hot water in the ladies so could manage. The warden was made aware and was checking to make sure all the timers were working as they should.
Overall, if we had paid less (for us it was £20/night for 4 of us and car parking) I wouldn't mind about the lighting/hot water, and despite my gripes we definitely would stay there again.

Just had a really good three days at this campsite. The owners were very nice people and only too willing to help.
The ground was good for pitching. The showers and toilet were ok but lack TLC could be made to look cleaner. Although I was there midweek until Saturday morning the weekend are obviously a very busy time and there were a lot of families with children arriving on the Friday night which were much noisier so an early night on Friday was not a good idea.
The food in the Rambler pub was over price and not the best cooked food. The National trust cafe by the station was very nice and good food.
Will definitely go back when it's much colder in the winter with a bit of luck it will be to cold for children to camp out

Great little site set in beautiful surroundings with fantasic views and co-located with the visitors centre. Costs at high season were £5 per person and £3.50 for a car, the site is generally limited by the amount of cars in the car park.
Clean ablutions and pan wash area, showers are about 20p for 2 minutes.
Staff are friendly and helpful although they're rarely in the office, contact is through a 2-way radio on the door.
All tent pitches are flat with about 6 small fields to choose from. Two pubs within about 5 minutes walk, the most popular being the Nags in the centre of Edale where you will also find a shop/post office and a cafe.
I'll definitely book in there again.

This is the third time we've used this site, partly because they are very welcoming to us bikers and let us park our bikes by the tents. The prices are reasonable and the facilities are basic but well maintained, although you need your 20p pieces for the showers and you need to read the instructions!
The ground is lovely to pitch on, but be careful - it's not as flat as it looks, and the novelty of waking up at the bottom of the tent in a cloth porridge soon wears off! Just be aware of any slope when you're pitching and you'll be fine.
The staff are helpful and welcoming, and we did like the fact that they seemed to be around at 10.30 to make sure people kept the noise down. I notice that a few other reviews have mentioned there isn't a lot of room for children to play, but to be honest, if you're looking for somewhere with space for kids to run about, you'd be better off going elsewhere. One of the attractions of this site is the peace and quiet.
There are pitches with lovely views and secluded pitches where you can feel more enclosed, and you have the choice of several different fields (as long as they haven't been booked by D of E parties, scout groups, etc.) If you pitch by the stream, make sure you have your midge repellent handy!
You have a choice of lovely walks straight from the site, and in the evening there are two pubs within walking distance. We didn't like the Ramblers so much - it was huge and impersonal, and so busy it was more like perching on a stool with a drink in the middle of a busy railway station - but the Nag's Head, although no less busy, was friendlier and cosier. Both were expensive, however - I suppose they've got a bit of a captive audience.
The information centre on site is well worth a visit - I learned a lot from a quick wander round, and it's beautifully presented. I also love the planted roof covered in moorland plants and the waterfall falling from it; a brilliant example of how to use the resources available (in this case rainwater - lots and lots of rainwater!) rather than grumbling about it!
We'd definitely use this site again.

This is a smashing little campsite that wraps around the visitor centre in Edale Village easily accessible by train from Sheffield (10 minute walk from the train station). This was our second visit in two years for a Father (38) and Son (7) walking weekend, the weather was pretty hot and the periodic clouds were a welcome relief.
Site well placed for a walk to Castleton via Hollins Cross. On the way back we bagged Mam Tor before having a swift one (Bitter and coke respectively) at the 'Ramblers Inn' just up from the train station.
On arrival I realised that I had forgotten cutlery and mugs but the site warden provided both (as well as washing up liquid and a cloth) so we could have our macaroni cheese and hot chocolate before bed. Many thanks for this kindness as my oversight would have made our first night rather difficult.
Pro's
No cars on the camping ground.
Great shallow river for little (and big) boys to play in.
Easily accessible from train station.
Nice atmosphere nice people.
Helpful site staff (see last paragraph)
Cons
None really, this is a really well maintained basic site with basic but clean and functional facilities.
All in all I would recommend this site and will almost certainly be booking again a little later in the year for us to 'bag' Kinder Scout.

If you want value for money then this is the place to go, toilet/shower blocks are basic but clean it only cost 10 pence to get a shower which was hot. Staff were friendly and helpful to campers even when someone had trouble with their car.
Views are outstanding fairly flat grass and loads of room, we just turned up on a Friday morning and got on no problem only went for one night but ended up staying for two. Dont miss out give this place a try it's worth it.

Wow what a find! (Surrounds the visitors centre). Warm welcome, clean toilet block, hot showers (20p a go and please read the operating instruction twice!).
If you don't know Edale well, it's a walkers paradise. Local Post Office and general store(but didn't use them) so can't comment on supplies. Two Pubs within easy walking distance (100mtrs or so), The Old Nags Head being our favourite (the 1577 is a must)although a round of drinks is not cheap so be warned.
No cars allowed on the pitches but no real problem with this as it's only a small site and very accessible. Does get the odd large party of kids doing this award and that award but just check at time of booking if not your cup of tea!
Also wise to confirm that they have booked you parking at the visitors centre otherwise parking would be awkward.
Plan to return later this year. One of our best sites to date.

I enjoyed staying at this campsite. It is in a lovely position with nice views. The fields are a nice compact size which helps to protect your tent from winds (which were pretty strong whilst we stayed). The local pub us good, friendly and not expensive (always a bonus).
However I did find that children struggled to have a space to play and therefore were running around my tent a lot which did spoil my relaxation some what. Also I really object to having to pay for hot showers when your paying to stay anyway.
I would also advise travelling light if planning to stay at this campsite. Carrying stuff to and from the car is a pain.
