We are a family of four who visited this site for 3 nights over the 'Jubilee' weekend.
From the minute we arrived to our departure everything was extremely organised and well thought out. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.
Our children (age 8 and 5) loved the choice of playgrounds, had fun with new friends in the sand pit and couldn't get enough of the train ride around the site.
Security and cleanliness of the site was first class. Cannot fault the shower/toilet block which was constantly being cleaned and re-stocked. Everything you could ask for was provided eg privacy at sink area, hooks to hang toilet bags/towels at sinks, hairdryer, hot power showers etc
The location where we were pitched was great and despite a full day of constant rain, drainage was not a problem.
Cafe/bar area which is linked to one of the adventure playgrounds was perfect and reasonably priced.
The Midland Railway Station is within easy walking distance although we didn't manage this as planned due to the heavy rain on our last day.
Nearby villages have plenty of choice in relation to supermarkets and takeaways etc When it rained we managed to find an indoor play area called Treetops which was a godsend!
We are already planning our next weekend visit in August, couldn't have asked for more.

Visited this site on the recommendation of family and friends who were returning there for the 2nd year. The site has good facilities which are kept clean and tidy.
But unfortunately the sites electricity circuit was unable to accommodate the number of tents and caravans it had on it this weekend and we spent a large amount of time without electric. This was blamed on the campers and caravanners using domestic heating appliances but we would dispute this as none of the individual fuses at the hook ups were blowing.
On a brighter note there was plenty to keep the kids amused and we didn't see much of them perhaps as well with the electricity problems.
Despite the experience we have had this weekend we would give it a 2nd chance

We have visited Golden Valley for about the last 5 years now, and will be going again at the beginning of June.
It has everything you need. Plenty of toilets, you sometimes have to queue for showers, but not for long. Everything is always kept clean, the hand towel occasionally runs out, but you can always take your own.
Locally there are some nice walks and pubs, plus the local steam train.
This is a lovely secluded woodland site, the staff are all really friendly, on reception, cafe and bar. The kids are kept busy with all the playgrounds.

We visited Golden Valley for our first family camping trip and we were not disappointed. From the minute we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful, escorting us to our pitch and advising us where to set up.
We were very impressed by the showers which were easily as good as ours at home; endless amounts of hot water and the block itself was clean and cosy. The partitioning meant you could wash and clean your teeth in private, there's also a hair dryer which is free to use.
The dishwashing facilities were great; indoor and close to one of the parks so you can keep an eye on the kids. There are 3 play grounds to keep the kids amused, an undercover sand pit and a games room (although I didn't go in there). The cafe is reasonably priced and the lady in there was friendly and chatty. I am told that later in the season there are even more things to do, ie the zip slide and some other things for the kids.
The site is secure with coded gated access. It is family friendly with rules such as no alcohol for under 18's, kids have to be back with parents by 10. 30pm or by dark (whichever is soonest) and there's a no noise at night policy which might not go down well with some people but it was fine for us. We will definitely be going back.

Family 2 adults, 5 children aged 14, 13, 11, 4, 2.
We have a tourer, awning and 3 pup tents.
Overall the Children had a fantastic holiday even with the age gaps they had a fab time.
Pitch: we did have to move due to a mix up over pitches but once this was sorted out it was fine.
Facilities: spotless and the showers are amazing just lovely. Hairdryer in the bathrooms as well so you don't have to take everything with you. Laundrette was good value and there is an iron and board for free use.
Kids: they never got bored giant sandpit they loved it and the choice of parks was fantastic. Train ride going round the park was just perfect as the kids loved it. Zipwire the teens loved it and the balls that go on water.
Fishing: didn't see the hubby and he could watch the kids on the park and fish so perfect.
Nearby: little train ride followed by a steam train ride which was a lovely day out. Went to Chatswoorth farm which the kids loved.
I would recommend this park its clean and tidy all set out for recycling and emptied often so no overflowing bins which is good.

We booked about a month in advance for the October half term & agreed a late arrival on the Friday night. Was a bit worried when couldn't contact to confirm all day on the Friday & when we arrived it took 20 mins to raise a response on the phone. We where given the gate code & directed where to park & asked if we would go to reception in the morning. Nobody there till 11. 00!
Our 2 girls 5 & 6 loved the play grounds & I loved the layout out of the park. The toilets plenty of them where clean & well laid out. The site was very quiet.
I was a bit disappointed that the bar & the cafe weren’t open, but not surprised as the site was so quiet. I was told we were there a week or so early as the bonfire night extravaganza is very well supported.
I would definitely visit this site again as it is so well set out & maintained.

We booked this site only about 2 weeks before Bank Holiday with friends (4A, 5C & 1Dog), so was a bit wary as they were the only site that had space but wary went out of the window when we got there, organised booking in system and people to show you to your pitch.
The pitches were not marked out so some people looked liked they were packed in like sardines but we were lucky as we were in a sort of alcove with EHU.
The wardens were great, especially as we had to have the AA out on the last day, even though they were busy cleaning, they came by a few times to check we were alright so A*.
The kids loved the 3 play areas, we found the zip line but wasn't open but it had been, the kids saw the donkey rides and all the kids loved the train rides. The icecream van came twice a day which they also loved and with loads of choices.
We had breakfast on the last day which was lovely but they were running out of bacon & eggs due to the mass of people going in.
The main negative about this park is the shower blocks basically not enough when the site is packed, only 2 blocks for the whole of the campsite and even the men had to queue!
Plenty of walks but we only used the nature walk as that took you to a field where the dog could have a run as long as the cows weren't grazing!
We visited the Tram Museum which was a good afternoon out.
Tesco nearby in Codnor, Sainsburys nearby in Ripley about the same distance in the car as long as you went through the industrial estate to Sainsburys.
Also you can walk to Riddings and there is some local shops including a Co-op & take-aways.
If you have kids visit this site, we will definitely be making a return visit and already told other friends about it.

We stayed here August Bank Holiday, the site was packed! After an easy check in we were shown to our pitch, however, the pitches are not clearly defined and tents were being pitched very close to each other, so close you could hear conversations in other tents!
Unfortunately the toilets were quite dirty and quite a bit smelly! I know it was bank holiday and the site was packed, but surely extra staff or more frequent cleaning should be done to accommodate the extra usage.
We were on the top field where there were more than 100 tents and tourers with a total of 4 showers and 4 toilets for each sex. We did see staff riding round on their golf carts looking busy, although much of the time they were smoking which didn't give a very professional image.
The children's play areas are very nice and well looked after, the site shop is small but sells the very basics. There is a nice Tesco express and Sainsburys very close by for a larger selection.
The woodland walk is nice around the edge of the site, slightly disappointed at some dog owners that failed to clean up after their dogs and we had to watch our step.
This was our second visit to Golden Valley, the first time earlier this year it was much quieter and much cleaner, its a shame that the site was so over sold because it lost its appeal, for that reason we won't be returning.

This was our first ever family trip so wanted to pick somewhere fairly local with good facilities and reviews and after spending two nights there we would definitely recommend this site. The arrival was very well organised and the owners explained everything you needed to know, security great with barriers and codes to access site. Site beautifully kept, clean toilets and showers (better than ours at home!), hot water, great play areas for kids of all ages. Well lit at night (for that early hours loo trip!) and there are also portaloos dotted around if you didn't want to walk up to main building. There was a lot of the site we didn't get to see, nature walks etc, but will be back in 2012 to explore site in more detail. I'm just sorry we might not make it back there this year! There is a Tesco Express about 5 minutes away and a Sainsburys a bit further for beer and barbeque stuff. We have already recommended Golden Valley to most of our friends who camp. To me, this is what I want from camping - good, clean facilities on a well kept site, safety for our daughter to play and relaxing break for us all. Golden Valley covered this all. Fantastic.

We spent a week at this site and have come back feeling spoilt! the scenery is beautiful the park is well laid out, spotless clean in all toilet blocks, the parks keep the children happy for hours and the cafe is good quality food and spot on prices and the boys even took up a new hobby of fishing (he sells rods in the shop) and we caught about 10 fish in a morning!, they are friendly and helpful and the warden is brilliant, noise is minimum at night and is a brilliant place to visit with plenty to do in the area. Definitely coming back again for 2 weeks next time! thank you golden valley, if only more parks were like yours.
