Great site if you have children. Lots of play areas, cafe, games room and a bar. Site is very well laid out and is kept clean and tidy.
Showers are great, hot and powerful with plenty of room for getting dressed and lots of hooks for clothing. The surrounding area is a little disappointing but if you don't mind a drive out 45mins to the peak district.
I do think however that £20 a night without children is a bit steep. I would suggest this site to families with young kids but not for older people wanting to relax.

Well this was our very first camping trip, myself, hubby and our 4 kids. I was a little anxious about going camping for the first time so I checked reviews before hand in the hope we would get a lovely site to visit. It was so the right thing to do. Very clean, family friendly, fab facilities. We will definitely be returning.
Showers were lovely and hot and very powerful and the toilets were always clean and tidy.
Kids play areas are amazing too.
Only (minor) gripe is that we had to pay extra per child which really bumped the cost up for us.
All in all a top site

After visiting this campsite for the last 5 years and watching Darren (the owner) put a extra pot washing sink in to ease the que's over a busy weekend we were really impressed.
However, we were there this weekend as a party of 3 tents, 6 adults and a 9 yr old and I now have mixed feelings.
Not exactly a warm welcome when we arrived,
Had a choice of 2 places to pitch our tents
DIY portable loo on top field with chemicals in a can outside and as usual not many people could be bothered to use it!
The upstairs Bar wasn't opened at all over the weekend so if you wanted to sit inside for a drink you had to go in the Cafe and have the lovely aroma of chips cooking, served by the same person who was changing the towels in the bathroom earlier in the day.
When we asked why it wasn't opened we were told lack of staff. As with the train it runs now and again and the Zip- wire was was closed because it had been raining in the morning
The fishing pool passed a few hours we cheered when the fishermen in our party caught huge fish.
There was Bird of Prey display on the sunday but only heard about it from overhearing children talking, can I suggest you have a daily notice board with the activities and events for that day clearly displayed, and if the Bar will be open that evening, afterall we are paying for these facilities in our pitch fees.

Just returned from a great weekend at Golden Valley. This site really is excellent, and whilst slightly more expensive than some, you certainly get what you pay for.
The staff can't do enough to help, and work hard to ensure all the fields are well presented and maintained.
Nothing seemed too much trouble. Great park and outdoor games facilities for families with children, and there are spotlessly clean toilets and shower facilities.

FANTASTIC. The staff were really helpful and welcoming from the minute you arrive, and incredibly efficient at taking you to your pitch. We wanted space away from the masses, and we got it, on the far side of the site by the trees. The kids LOVED it, as they had loads of space for bike rides just on the campsite, and along gravelled paths - all within an enclosed boundary. There was plenty to keep the kids amused, and loads of paths for walks with dogs etc. There were goats too!
The showers were in small blocks, and you often had to queue. One shower was always cold, and the block itself was tiny - just 3 showers and a bathroom in each. Too far to walk anywhere away from the site, but with a car there are plenty of places to go around and about.
Rubbish bins are split into recycling, and I wish we had known before we got going, otherwise there was no main bin for general rubbish.
Would go again!

Stayed at the campsite over the bank holiday weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. This was our first time away camping as a family and everybody was so friendly and helpful towards us. The site was very clean with excellent toilet and showering facilities. We didn't spend much time on site as we travelled around a lot seeing everything there is to see in the area and beyond. If you get a choice though, choose the upper field. We were in the bottom field which is next to a busy main road but saying that was not too noisy.
We will definitely return.

This is the first time we have visited this site and despite booking two nights arrived at 5. 30 Friday and left the site by 10. 15 the next morning and would not re-visit. If you like parking on what looks to me like an old slag heap! The site seems to have a lot of seasonal caravans which are grubby and in need of some cleaning attention then this is for you. It is expensive and definitely not worth the money.
The toilets seemed okay, the play area was nice enough and the staff very helpful but the poor set up of the caravans, rubble, sites far outweighs the positives!
This is the first time in 6 years of caravanning we have ever left a site so soon!
Tents I think you are fine and will enjoy for the mere fact that you are away from the rubble and the seasonals.

Just returned from a 3 night stay over the Bank Holiday weekend with hubby & 2 sons (16 & 12) What a fab site, we all loved it.
We were the only caravan in the tent field but we didn't mind and hopefully the campers didn't either!
Great atmosphere on the site, lovely surroundings, 3 fab play areas & quite possibly the best showers I've ever had at a caravan site!
Got a take-out from the cafe one night, cheap & tasty.
Visited Carsington Waters, Dovedale & Matlock Bath all within an hours drive and worth a visit.
Beautiful part of the country & a lovely site, we will be back! Well done Darren & team, your hard work pays off!

Great camp, with brilliant facilities, showers spotless to say camp was busy. Our first time camping and wont be our last, the parks for the kids were tremendous and cafe was very handy as we only had basics as we are new.
Stayed in the to field which was less busier, big struggle in putting our new tent up until one of the seasonal guest came and helped us, he also borrowed my son a fishing rod and gave him some tuition on the Saturday, real nice family, a big thanks! my son his now hooked.
Will be back for a week in august, hopefully be able to put up ourselves this time.

Our first camping experience, we arrived and staff were very friendly and helpful, shown to our pitch, where we had water available at our pitch.
The children found the playground straight away and were off to play, we could see them from where we were pitched so it was very safe. There were 3 playgrounds, also a train that took the children around the park and through a farm (which was free).
There was also a woodland nature trail. So there was plenty to keep the children entertained and they had a great time, which meant we could relax.
The facilities were kept clean. Shower cubicles with plenty of hot water available.
Washing up area clean and freezer available for freezer packs etc.
Car needed to get out and about as nothing within walking distance. Lots of nice places to visit nearby.
Overall a great first camping trip.
