Originally booked for 3 nights but ended up staying 5 nights. The staff were really good and helpful. The person on reception was a little gruff on the phone, but very helpful once we arrived showing us to the pitch.

The on-site cafe served a good breakfast at a reasonable price, if you didn't want to make anything to eat. Also they served nice cold beef which was a bonus!

The location of the site was very convenient for local shops and supermarkets, the Co Op being the most local. The did have a shop on site for basic needs, such as gas, toiletries and batteries, and the usual food necessities - bread and milk.

We joined the National Trust and visited several local manor houses in the area which passed our days on nicely.

All in all a great time was had.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay here and the site itself was fine. We were welcomed and shown to our pitch on the top field. As we stayed Monday to Saturday the site was not packed but returning on the Friday evening, the number of tents had doubled and we were glad to be leaving due to the numbers.

We were placed near a portaloo which was blocked when we arrived due to people putting nappies and the like down it. Unblocking it was quite a smelly event and there were times during the week that we could smell the portaloo. People didn't seem to use them properly and left them in a dirty state so I didn't use them myself.

There are motorbikes on the road outside at night that are noisy and annoying. The area outside the site is not appealing, it is quite run down and some buildings are boarded up.

The staff are friendly and helpful, we did see them out and about cleaning etc. The site was pleasant and the kids loved the play areas which were good, and woodland areas in which to play.

We visited Alton Towers, Conkers, Magna and the Heihts of Abraham - all great days out.

Super site! We have just returned from 4 nights at Golden Valley. Both kids (girl 6yrs boy 10yrs)loved it. We never saw the donkey rides, and only saw the train twice but loads of well maintained parks for the kids to play in. We had the grandparents with us and their only minor gripe was there was no newspapers available on site!

We had a brill pitch, right at the top of the top field next to our friends we were the only ones up there and to be honest we had so much space it was easy to forget there was other campers! We like space as we feel it gives the kids a bit more freedom, not having to tell them to keep away from other tents etc.

There are good facilities available, plenty sinks to wash dishes, special sinks for muddy boots, chemical wash area, free freezer, ironing board (never used!) free hot hairdryer all well maintained.

I am a right critic of toilets and showers but the ones on site were more than adequate. The main block housed toilets and showers and were pretty clean all day considering how many people were on site. There was a mop and bucket avail but never saw anyone use it (campers)! The showers have hooks to hang your stuff and a small table. Also there looked to be a decent laundry (again we did not use).

There was a small cafe on site that also served alcohol and light meals, very well priced. It also served a few bits and pieces but there is a sainsburys a 5 min drive away.

The games room was good for the 10 yr old, basic but more than enough also was very pleased to see they were only 20p a go.

The site is well situated for the heights of Abraham and Gullivers kingdom (fab for a day out with young ones)but also super for walks. There is a free train museum about 15 mins walk away if you turn left as you leave the site, which is worth a visit (it's free but you pay 2quid for parking).

We had the grandparents staying with us, and they brought their car so strangely they paid more to stay with us than they would have if they had pitched their own tent!

The site also has security gates to the entrance and there is a strict no noise after 10. 30pm. You can also not move your vehicle after dark, if you are retuning from a day out you have to leave it in the car park at the front.

All in all friendly, helpful staff and a site we would def return to.

Golden Valley is our favourite site so far. This was our second visit, and have no doubt we will return again and again. We do try other camp sites, but none have matched it yet.

We camped in the Top field both times, and it was quiet, and we had plenty of room, around our tents, and for the children to play.

This site has by far the best facilities for children, the couple of play area's, the small fishing pond, the flying dragon, nature trail, free train ride round the site, and room for ball games.

After we asked, the ice cream van even drove right upto our tents, as in our group we had 6 children.

On both our visits, the toilet/shower block in the top field was kept clean at all times. The porta loo, in the top field was a bit grubby, but usable, but not far to walk to the main block anyway.

Can't think of any negatives for this site for us. Thanks for a couple of great weekends - we will be back.

Just got back from another wonderful weekend at Golden Valley for the Indietracks festival. The excitement of going is not only for the festival, but enjoying the amazing campsite of Golden Valley and the super helpful, very welcoming and always cheerful staff.

I can imagine that a weekend full of festival goers is not the easist of weekends, but you would never tell by the team at Golden Valley.

The grounds are beautiful and incredibly kept, and the facilities were always spotless - no mean feat when you have 100s of guests using them at the same time!

I would recommend Golden Valley to anyone who is looking for a weekend away from the hustle and bustle. And to boot, they do cook up a mean breakfast!

Thanks again team Golden Valley, and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Just got back from a lovely weekend camping with friends. Would highly recommend the site and definitely return! It is really family friendly - with 3 play areas; suitable for mixed ages.

A lovely added bonus; we were treated to an un-expected falconry display on Saturday; where the kids got to hold the birds!

There is a cafe with a limited menu but great for an emergency cup of tea or portion of chips! Also a bar (with an outside seating area so you can watch the kids playing).

The bottom field was where we were pitched and we felt it was the better of the two - we weren't too crammed in with space for ball games.

The bbq area is a good idea - to prevent the grass getting burnt!

The children had a couple of train rides around the site which they loved. The ice-cream van visited twice in the day - which was great because the shop didn't sell ice-creams.

The amenities were very clean, very modern and plenty of them! We liked the fact that there are portable loos dotted around so that you're never too far from one. But a couple of them had no lights -so a bit dark at night!

Only 2 negative points are that there were no sign of the advertised donkey rides and the 'new' dragon slide was very abandoned looking! But hey - the rest was great.

Just got back from our first expedition, having been introduced to camping by friends at this site. Decided to return for our first outing because of the sites quality.

Both times we have been the pitches have been good (both with electric hook up) Site has been busy on both occasions, but wasn't boisterous, lots of children but not noisy as they are well catered for with the play areas.

Staff are friendly and helpful and the site is very clean and safe. Both times the noise levels were good with no late night parties. Even with large groups on the site.

Facilities are good, showers are hot and clean, toilets are clean and there are plenty of pot washing and laundry facilities.

We plan on making this a regular retreat as it is fantastic for a weekend chill out

We visited this campsite the back end of summer 2010. There were 3 families ages ranging from 1 to 14. This was an absolutely fantastic site, even though it was only 15-20 minutes away from home, you never felt the need to nip back!

The facilities for the children were absolutely fantastic which catered for all ages, from our 1 year old to the teenagers. The pitches were big enough for our 8 man tent and we booked last minute to join the other families and there was no problem.

The shower/toilet block was very clean and at night the site was well lit. There are numerous facilities available ranging from a on site cafe to a pool table, ( to say there was only 1 child of the male sort, the other boys seemed to enjoy!) Table tennis, zip wire and walks that you are able to go on!

Overall this was a fantastic site that was close to home. For others who live outside the area it is ideal for visiting places like Matlock and the Derbyshire hills isn't too far away from Nottingham and Robin Hood County.

Hopefully if we can get the tribe together will be visiting in 2011!

My family (two adults and two children, age 6 and 5) along with five other couples visited the park last weekend and what a wonderful weekend we had camping, a definite 10 out of 10 experience all round.

The site is perfect - great pitches, clean shower/toilet blocks, great parks/pub/fishing pond etc. I cannot find one negative thing to say about the park or its staff.

The owner obviously takes great pride in the park and appears dedicated to making your stay as fantastic as possible.

We cannot wait to visit again next month.

What a great site, yes I agree it is more expensive than most, but the facilities are great for campers and kids.

The lower field in which we stayed is surrounded by trees and you can park your car nearby.

There's a small on site cafe and shop which is handy.

The toilet blocks and showers were great and kept clean daily, the showers really hot and powerful.

The kids areas were all safe and plentiful and we hardly saw ours apart from eating and sleeping times.

The fishing areas whilst small is stocked with loads of fish and everyone was catching, from small roach to 3or4lb carp.

The staff more than friendly and helpful.

We even booked an extra night we enjoyed it that much.

Would definitely go again in the future.
