At 1st this site seemed lovely good facilities lots of room. But after 3 nights of loud noise in the early hours from some really annoying geese kept as pets on the site. Then there's the noise of the staff riding around the site in 4 wheel drive mini trucks from 7 until 10 at night way to fast for my liking.
If you want peace and quite don't come to this site.

After trying to find a campsite last minute, at the end of the school holidays, I was delighted to secure a pitch at Golden valley. The website looked nice and the reviews on UKcampsite mostly favourable.
The site is rather pricey, costing us £88 for just 2 nights for our family of 2 adults and 4 children plus dog, in a caravan. On arrival you have to park outside the barrier and leave the car while you walk across to the reception. This is opposite the gate, so no hardship and shows just how serious they take security on the site. Once you have booked in you are given a keycode to allow entry for the duration of your stay.
We were sited on pitch 23 which is in a slightly quieter area at the back of the site. Although there are pitches right near the play areas, if you would prefer to be able to watch your children play and don't mind the noise.
The site itself is quite large, extremely well looked after. There are lots of staff keeping it clean and they are always around should you need to ask anything. The toilet blocks clean and there were never any queues, this is probably helped by the fact that they have numerous portaloos situated around the site as well as the two main toilet/shower blocks. There seemed to be ample areas for dishwashing and also low 'greywater' sinks for bootwashing. The site has loads of trees around which is lovely, although we did end up with bird poo all over our awning, so maybe a soft brush to clean it before we left would have been handy.
The facilities for kids in absolutely excellent. There are four play areas, two of which have large covered sand-pits. There is a mini-golf course which is £2 per club to hire and there is table-tennis (we didn't do this so not sure on price) There is a train that goes around the site twice a day )10am then again in the afternoon) it is free and the kids love it. There are also mini cars for £1 a go and bouncy castle for £1 a go (5 minutes) Also check out the billboard outside the reception in the morning as it lists the days activities and times.
The bar and cafe area is at the side of the reception and there are a few tables outside overlooking one of the play areas; they also have a kids disco upstairs in the evening. Disco style face painting is 50p, a pint of Fosters or IPA is £3. The cafe also sells milk, marge, cans of beer and bottles of wine. None of it horrendously overpriced compared to any other convenience store. I must mention that you have to spend £10 to be able to pay by card in the cafe. There is a co op about a 5 minute drive away if you need more than the basics, or don't want to spend £10.
In the other toilet block, at the top of the hill, there is a pool table (50p coins needed) and gym upstairs, and a jacuzzi downstairs.
As you can see lots for the kids to do, but also a lot for them to pester for money for. Make sure you have plenty of change.
Overall the site is lovely and the facilities for kids are great. There are one or two negatives for me, but don't let this put you off the site.
1. There are a LOT of seasonal pitches and the occupants, or more specifically their kids, seem to think they own the site. They race around on bikes, go karts, mini motos and mini quads at high speeds. I found this quite frustrating at times, especially the revving and beeping from the petrol/electric ones.
2. On the first night we had heavy rain so didn't notice, but on the second night we could clearly hear traffic from the nearby A roads. It was especially noisy if any motorbikes went along and we go away to escape traffic noise, so it isn't really what we want to hear when trying to sleep.
As I said, don't let those points detract from the overall positive review as despite these points we would consider returning for a short stay, but would maybe try other sites first.

What a beautiful gem of a place hidden away amongst woodlands and fields and as much fresh air as you want. My partner and I have never camped before, and after going abroad all the time we decided to put our money into this country. So we completely changed our life-style and bought 2 Lurvleeeeeeee boxer pups and booked the bank holiday weekend at Golden Valley after a friend recommended it to us. We couldn't have gone to a better place for novice campers. The whole experience was second to none and it's all down to the fabulous staff and management at Golden Valley. Two lovely happy ladies on reception greeted us who were extremely helpful, friendly and professional, as were all the rest of the staff. Lovely funny lady in the cafe / bar ! Oh and very reasonable prices on the booze ! Thanks to the train driver that let my grandson sit in the front with you as you tootled around the camp, brill ! If you want to take your kids, or just yourselves to a child and dog friendly camp-site, I really would highly recommend this site, you won't be disappointed. I don't know who enjoyed it more, my grand-son, my partner and I or the pups. Most definitely will be returning. We met some lovely people and we will be meeting up with them at GV of course, in a couple of months. We've got the bug and we're going back at the week-end. It's 25 minutes away from us so why not ? 😀

We visited this site for 4 nights, on first impressions it is very tried looking. We were show to are pitch. Which was not suitable. They gladly moved us.
The biggest thing that struck us was the condition of a lot of caravans witch must be on sesonal pitches. The awnings and caravans were absolutely filthy some of the awnings were so bad you could not tell what colour they were ment to be. We think this is becourse the site states no washing of caravans. We were in an area of 6 vans 5 of witch were in this condition. So not a very pleasant out look.
Also there is no grass at all around the caravans just gravel. So every thing gets very dusty and dirty very quickly. Our van and car was filthy after 4 night.

Well what a fabulous park
Totally family orientated
Shower and toilet blocks very well maintained
The staff and management seemed happy all the time which justs adds to having a good time
Free land train rides and log flume rides around the caravan park, they could easily charge for this but they don't which is a really nice touch
There is a small inside games room with a pool table and three electronic games, the room was constantly warm
Four out side play areas and a inside very large sand pit was fabulous for our seven year old
The night time disco was very good, bar prices very fair, food in the cafe was good value for money
I would have no hesitation visiting this site again
Very highly recommended

A MUST FOR KIDS. What a great site. 3 play areas for all ages. I have a 3 and 10 year old. Large covered sand pit. Tractor train rides and log fume rides. It was the bank holiday with over 400 tents - the staff never stopped to keep the site clean and the kids entertained from morning until night.
Toilets and showers cleaned regularly. Great on site cafe - reasonably priced. Great for bikes. Fishing is a must with plenty of fish caught by all.
Lovely pub upstairs that had a disco at night.
All the people who worked there were really friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much for these people who go out of their way to make your holiday a great experience.
Local coop, tescos, sainsburys near by.
If weather is bad there is treetops soft play, which is excellent 5 minutes away.
Matlock only 20 mins drive.

We had a great 7 night holiday at Golden Valley. The park seems fairly small at first sight but in fact it is huge! It's made up a small areas all dotted around the site which gives the impression that it's not busy even when it is. We had a pitch up in the top area which was nice and flat and had no boundaries so no cramming everything into a square. The facilities were clean, tidy and modern and free hot showers which are a bonus. The top play area was really good and the kids loved the covered sandpit. There were other play areas near the bottom of the site which were all very good although slightly busier than the top one. The shop wasn't really much of a shop but there were vending machines dotted around for refreshments at very good prices. An ice-cream van came into the site regularly with some of the best and cheapest ice creams I've ever had from a van! A Sainsbury a short drive away, a Tesco express even closer an amazing chip shop next to it, huge tasty portions at very low prices. Highly recommend a visit to Abraham Heights and Gullivers Kingdom. There was one lad working at the site who seemed to do everything! Checked us in, maintained the pitches, did some of the on site activities and drove the tractor ride around the park, I can't remember his name but he was fantastic! He really should be working as a Red Coat at Butlins! Overall really enjoyed our stay and would like to come back again. Clean well maintained site in a stunning location with level pitches, plenty for kids to do and friendly staff. Perfect holiday site really. Worth taking the kids on an adventure around the park, there's so much to see.
