Myself and My girlfriend have just returned from a 5 day stay at Golden Valley and I must say I was impressed with the standard of this campsite. We arrived on Wednesday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised how quiet the site was ( only 2 other tents and some caravan users) so our choice of pitch was pretty much anywhere on the tent field. I was a little confused as to where we could pitch as every where seemed to have electric hook ups but in the end we settled for top camping area to the left near the trees ( an excellent pitch area as our tent did not get the sun until the early afternoon and long into the evening).

We camped here as a 'base' for Warwick castle and Alton towers, both being a reasonable drive (alton towers took 35 mins only). I agree with others, there wasn't much of an on site shop but sainsburys is 5 mins down the road in Ripley. When we returned from alton towers on the friday we felt a little 'invaded' as the weekend campers had arrived and what a change- the fields were PACKED! I don't mind a busy campsite but must stress that there is not enough showers and toilets to go around (16 of each) and on a morning and evening be prepared to queue. This was particularly annoying for my girlfriend who had to wait nearly 20 mins with her legs crossed to use the loo.

The Facilities themselves were very clean and well kept. I was a bit disappointed as the Bar was closed on Saturday night and would of definitely put £30+ in their till that night, the only thing that was open was the cafe which we didn't use. Oh, and the Saturday night entertainment was a 'singer' who sounded terrible and that was from our tent.

The staff were faultless and always keen to help. So, if you prefer the quiet life head to this site on a monday - thursday, if its good entertainment and lots for the kids to do go on the weekend. 9/10

Just returned from a weekend at golden valley, brilliant site, clean and peaceful. Could do with a few more toilets but we were ok. There was a boy band performing on Saturday evening which was great for the kids, we thought it would be too noisy but it wasn't, and it didn't last very long. Staff really friendly and helpful, will be returning very soon.

Just spent 3 nights and it was fab. The site is fantastic for the kids (young and old). There are 2 playareas, zip wires(payable), Quad Bikes(payable) and plenty of cycle/nature trails. The showers are clean and tidy.

I agree with other reviews that the shop doesn't really sell much but there are plenty of supermarkets within 5/10mins by car. Even though the site was full it was lovely and peaceful by evening.

Only downside: nowhere to empty waste water!

Would definitely return 10/10

Just returned from a weekend. The site was clean, well organised and quiet. Lots of space for the kids to play, with 3 play areas and a zip wire.

Shower blocks were excellent and constantly being cleaned right through to 11pm

Shop was more of a cafe but local supermarkets are only a 5 minutes drive away.

Will definitely go back soon and recommend to others

The hottest weekend of the year so far just made this trip complete. Only went off camp to get a few provisions. The toilet blocks are really good and really clean their is plenty to keep children occupied and enough space between units for adults to relax and unwind.

The only gripe I had is the, in my opinion, silly rule that all children under the age of 18 had to be in their units by 10.30 surely this should be the responsibility of the adults to marshal.

Other than that everything was excellent and we will be coming back. Another gripe was the £33 per night charge for 2 adults 2 kids and a dog.

We Spent 5 Days at Golden Valley over the May/June bank Holiday, 3 families 6 children. I have to say this is the best site I have ever been to for children's entertainment.

Lots of space for them to ride bikes, 2 fantastic play area's, A forest zip wire, Quad Bikes, Donkey Rides, Childrens entertainment throughout the day and in the early evening including a mini disco.

As for the site, very well laid out, Showers and toilets were clean although a few more would not go a miss. We had a slight issue with the hook up as the mains kept tripping but I guess that was due to the fact the site was full and some people do insist on bringing toasters, electric kettles, microwaves etc. Never the less the stay was a relaxing one.

The on site shop was really a cafe so there was a lack of essentials on site. There are however a number of supermarkets that are just a short drive away so no real drama there.

Staff were very helpful and friendly although the owner got a little stressed from time to time. Didn't last long though and by the end of the stay we had warmed to his ways.

Overall 10/10 despite the odd gripe, Kids had a ball and we will be back soon

We went to this site for the first time this weekend. It was fantastic

The area for tents were superb and loads of space. Really nice fishing area my son caught his first fish there. The toilets and showers were really clean and of a very high standard. The play area was really good too

The ice cream van visited everyday. The bar/shop and cafe was excellent. No need to leave the site as all we needed was there

Sainsbury was just up the road. The bike trail was very good

We intend to go back ASAP, as all the kids on the site had a great time and everyone was safe and well catered for

This is a great, large family campsite in the Derbyshire dales, and is really the kind of place that you'll love if you want to get set up on site and then not leave until you head off home. There's 2 kids playgrounds, a zip-wire, mountain bike route / walk around the outside of the site, a bar with kids disco, kids entertainer, and apparently (though I didn't use it) a gym! A tractor dressed up as a train proved to be another small touch that really got our kids imagination, running as it did periodically around the site.

The site staff are friendly and helpful, and the site is clearly well looked after. Loos and showers were also good and clean.

All in, this is a great site that will no doubt be packed all summer (so definitely book well in advance), and with its location just a few miles from the M1 is a site that we'd definitely return to.

Just got back from a long weekend. The site is fantastic, really geared up for children. The playgrounds are great, and so is the nature trail. The showers are clean and the other facilities are spot on except there is nowhere to empty grey waste water. I was told by a member of staff to 'throw it down the banking' which I didn't do. The recycling facilities are excellent. We will definitely return in the future! The shop only sells camping goods,n ot food but there is Iceland, Lidl , Coop etc 5 mins drive away.

Very clean spacious site. Two good playgrounds for the kids. A small bar. There is a nature walk. The toilet and showers are very clean and staff friendly

A good base for visiting Derby and apart from the odd power cut a good all round site. This was our second visit and across the road is a nice walk around the river. Although we had a bit of rain the site has good roads with tarmac down
