Stayed here last year for the weekend as we were meeting friends at Matlock Bath to see the Illuminated boats. Lovely site with great facilities. Wish we had more time to enjoy the site, went to the bar at night and our daughter liked the disco, playgrounds were great and staff were very helpful, we arrived in the dark and the guy put us on a pitch next to a light so pitching was made easier. We will be going back this year. One thing if you take young children a head torch is the must have thing for the playground at night. Can't wait to go back.

We've just come home after our second visit. It's fab, 45 mins from home, the site is spotless and the staff can't do enough for you. They were wonderful with our son. Love the idea of a bath for those with young kids, (throw em all in the bath together without cramming them all in the shower). The playgrounds are fab and kept clean and safe. All in all it's pretty perfect, can't wait to go back for half term, just hope the weather holds out.

Second visit to this site. Very pleased with the staff and site. Prices in the cafe are not too steep. Hills can be a problem for older people but we had no problem at all. The children love the open space and activities. Club beer prices on site are reasonable.
Only downside was lack of entertainment. Last time they had a very good Karaoke and disco over a bank holiday weekend. This time they had a young lad doing it who had no idea. If they want people to drink in the club they need decent entertainment.

We've just had a great weekend at Golden Valley, a friendly and well kept site with lots to do for the children.
The Positives:
*Friendly, organised site managers, nothing was too much trouble.
*The site is well laid out with lots of areas for the children to play but good walking for dogs too with various nature trails.
*A well priced cafe on site
*Activities for the children when the site's busy - zipwires, balls on the water, quad bike rides around the site, a mini train. A great way of keeping the kids occupied on Saturday, plus the few adults in our party who made a beeline for the zip wire.
*Great toilets and showers, there's even a bath - perfect for anyone with younger children.
The Negatives:
*We were pitched on the bottom field, not far from reception and there is traffic noise from the nearby road (which runs just behind the hedge). It annoyed me the first night but I soon got used to it. You can't hear the road at all if you pitch up the hill.
* Cars / Vans aren't allowed on grass at all so you have to park close to your allotted spot and carry your stuff over. This isn't really an issue to be honest as there's a lot of parking around AND it stops the ground from being mushed up. It does however mean that a lot of the caravans were on completely hard standing with no grass around them - something to be aware of when booking (there are some pitches near grass).
* After a drive through the fabulous Peak District to get there, Ripley came as a bit of a disappointment, as it looks like Any Town and we drove through an industrial estate to get to the site. Bear with it though, you're not a million miles away from lovely countryside if you want to venture off site, for our weekend there was more than enough to do on site.
Would I visit again? Most definitely!

We've been to this site for 3 years running and have always been very happy. We go in a group of children and adults and and they are always very accommodating in letting us pitch together and set up as we wish.
The toilet blocks and showers lose always clean and tidy regardless of how busy the site is.
Theses plenty for the kids to do with lots of parks and play areas.
Sadly, our only complaint really is the staff. We find them quite abrupt when you're checking in, but other than that, we have no complaints. Obviously its not been too much of an issue as we wouldn't have gone there for 3 years running.
We'll look forward to going back next year for our annual camping weekend.

Fantastic site for the grandchildren. Lots of play areas, climbing frames, slides, nature walk, ( watch for the bats at dusk ).
Wardens very friendly, always trying to find entertainment for the young ones, or young at heart.
The pool room was good. Gave the grandchildren their first chance to try a game of pool without any adults trying to push them off the pool table.
It was great to see the parents enjoying a drink from the bar while keeping an eye on their children running around and having fun.
Grandchildren cant wait to return.

Absolutely Fantastic site. Amazing playgrounds, lovely friendly Cafe/Bar, super covered sandpit, hot powerful clean showers, very friendly staff. Lots of extra activities.
Even with the rain on Jubilee weekend and the extra quantity of people there was still loads of room for the children to play footy. Highly recommended site.
We definitely intend to return. Railway museum in walkable distance.
Supermarkets close by and a decent chippy too.

This was a great campsite & caravan site for families with children.
I was really impressed with what the owners had done with it - a real work of love and dedication. There are wonderful play facilities including a play-fort and also a huge sandpit under cover which is very handy when it rains.
It is a massive area with trees animals & birds.
There were free rides in a train for adults and children and a log-car for children around the site.
There is a lake and people were fishing.
They had a supervised zip-wire and also on our visit they put up a bouncy castle and had a disco.
There are interesting giant wood-sculptures scattered around the area by a local artist.
The site has won a David Bellamy Gold award for being conservation friendly (they are serious about conservation and also encourage recycling with neat rows of bins for different types of item).
I think the site is very well run.
You do need to check in before 9pm but we phoned in as we got stuck on the motorway and the manager was most helpful.
I went with a large group and there was plenty of room and the manager did all sorts of things to make our stay a pleasant one.
The shower blocks and toilets were the cleanest I have encountered on a camp site. The facilities include pool table Gymn snooker table Jakuzi and a washing and drying machine room as well as drinking water, boot wash sinks and a communal freezer (for which no charge was made).
The local steam train is within walking distance and said to be fun though we never got there - plenty to do on site and expensive to rid in the train (though the rest of it is free).
Cafe is basic in the range of food it provides but was extremely welcoming and dry and warm with a TV running. Hot tea and coffee was most welcome.
There is also a very basic amount of camping gear on sale (eg if you forgot to pack tent pegs or need a gas stove canister or waterproofs).
We walked to a nice village pub called the Moulders Arms (or 'the Thack' as it has a thatched roof) about 2 or 3 miles away for Saturday lunch and it felt like a bit of a trek but was worth it when we found it - beware if walking there that they stop serving at 2pm and there is nowhere else much to eat hot food nearby.
I think this camp site deserves all the stars.

This is the fifth year we've been to this site and it never disappoints. We go with a large group of family and friends, and there's enough on the site to keep everyone happy.
It's always been scrupulously clean, and the toilets and showers well stocked with soap, loo roll etc. Occasionally the towel runs out, and they could do with changing it more regularly or putting some paper towels in, but that's a minor gripe.
There's plenty of play areas, a fishing pond, zip wire and little train rides round the site. There's a small, bar, cafe and games room with pool table.
The Midland Railway Centre is worth a visit, and you get half price tickets if you're staying at the site. There's a good pub (TableTable) about 20 minutes walk away.
