Just returned from a long bank holiday weekend. The site was lovely and clean and surrounded by lovely woodland. Lots for the kids to do with plenty of play areas and bike rides for them. There was also a train that took you round the park which smaller children would enjoy. The zip wire, quad bikes and donkey rides are a great idea but sadly at a £1 a go, it does get expensive when you have more than one child wanting to go on these!
The toilet/shower blocks were excellent although with only four cubicles it does get busy and queues form. We did find that we had very little space around our pitch as they seemed to cram a lot of tents into one area. We had nowhere to sit outside our awning with all the tents around us.
We also think that maybe general provisions being available on the site may be a good idea, ie milk and bread.

We stopped here the last bank holiday and enjoyed every second of it. The toilet blocks, showers and pot washing facilities were very clean.
The kids activities were excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food in the cafe was also very reasonably priced and very tasty and also you got a good beer.
There was a lot to do on and off the campsite, will be coming back

After just getting back from a long weekend we are totally relaxed. The setting is beautiful its grassed mostly, you get the feeling like your in the middle of a wood. Plenty of walks in and around the site.
The site is kept immaculate toilets and showers are also immaculate, the play areas are fantastic for all ages up to I would say 12, our 2 and 1/2 year old loved all 3 play areas, and the amount of space to run around in.
Lots of facilities on site there's no need to leave the site if you just want to relax. Super market only 5mins down the road. Really enjoyed our stay cant believe we didn't find this little gem sooner. All staff work really hard and are very accommodating. Only change I would make is to visit more often.

We have just arrived back from a two night stay in our caravan. We were with friends who were in their campervan and the site organised us two pitches together. However the pitches were hardstanding on shale which was not great for the kids and would have been nice to have some grass nearby, so make sure you ask for a pitch near grass if you wish that.
The showers and facilities are excellent. Very clean and well equipped.
Loads to do on site and really nice walks nearby from the site. Great for kids, as there are several play areas.
We will definitely be going back again.

Just been here for a weekend and loved it, they were very accommodating with our group and kept us all together in an area slightly out of the way
The facilities are really good for kids, excellent play area, quad bikes for a £1 a ride and the zip wire, beautiful area with some lovely walks.
It had a gated entry for added security. The club house was good, toilets good and clean although only 4 showers so best to get showered later on in the day when queue has gone.
The tractor which rides around all day is good fun too for the kids and adults. There is a few rules to follow but this is only to ensure everyone enjoys their stay so no probs following these.
The only small thing that I can find to complain about is the cockerels that woke us early every morning, but not such as a bad thing as we got up and enjoyed our days. Thanks very much for an enjoyable stay

Absolutely fantastic site! There is so much here for the kids to do, adventure forts, bike trails, nature walks, zipwire, go carts, face painting, train rides, disco, games room, donkey rides and lots of freedom to roam around safely.
All the facilities were excellent, inc. the cafe, the bar, the showers, laundry room, food prep rooms, jacuzzi and log cabins. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. At one point we thought we had lost our little boy and they helped look, offered us a buggy cart to ride round in and radioed to other staff immediately, he was found safe and sound in his little friends tent but the parents had not realised he was in there when we asked! Good to know the security is there if needed.
We will be returning in summer for a week and can see this site becoming a favourite for years to come. Find the Mundy Arms in nearby Heanor for a really good family pub and the Poet and Castle in Codnor do an excellent sunday carvery.

We have just returned from a visit to Golden Valley, and had a lovely weekend. The great British weather did let us down a bit, but we still had a fab time.
Due to the size of it, our tent was pitched a little walk away from the main site. This was good because it was quiet, private and in a lovely spot over looking a horse paddock and the zip wire that is on site (which children and adults can use, we all thought it was great!). The down side was that is was quite a long walk to the toilets / shop / cafe and play areas. The facilities on site are excellent!
Kids play areas cater for all age groups and abilities, my 10, 7, 5 and 3 year olds all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The toilet and washing up facilities were always clean and tidy.
The only small complaint was in the toilets, the hand dryers are those long towel things rather than air dryers and the towels were sometimes not replaced quickly enough. I'd prefer air dryers for hygiene reasons, but this is personal preference.
The on site bar and cafe are great, well priced and the staff are friendly. The only minor downside is that the shop does not sell basic foodstuffs, so you will have to make a trip out to the supermarket (10 mins away) for anything you've forgotten to take with you. As we visited at a bank holiday, there was plenty of entertainment on site, which was well organised and great fun for the kids.
The only slight let down to our weekend was a minor misunderstanding with the site owner regarding us having some friends visit for a bbq. A minor misunderstanding was, on his part turned into a disagreement which could have easily been avoided had his public relation skills been a little better, but that could just be a personal opinion. It was sorted in the end though and all parties were happy, and on the whole all of the site staff were fine, they tend to just let people get on with things.
In all, Golden Valley is a fab site, our children enjoyed their weekend very much and as it is only a 45 minute drive from home for us, I am sure that we will return.

Been here several times and love it, Laid back relaxing. The bar is a good size, the staff are friendly enough and they leave you alone. The owners (he does not smile a lot but he's ok) mum Eileen who serves food is a really nice lady and remembered us on our second visit.
Our family used the jacuzzi and this was really nice. We stay on site and we never get bored, our son and my nephew love the space they have to run around to play war.
As you drive up you think where are we as the drive you is not so great. But as soon as you arrive you know it will be good.
