There were good facilities (several showers and even a hairdryer) which were kept clean. There was a shop and butchers on site which was very useful. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Just a short walk from the town, but in a quiet area which is great for walkers.

We have just enjoyed at 2 night stay at this campsite and I would highly recommend it. The surroundings were idyllic, we were situated between the river and the abbey ruins and the nature in the area was amazing, we woke to birdsong each morning and the squirrels were very friendly! The site owners were very friendly and even gave us a voucher for money off food and drink at the local pub, which was a 5 minute walk down the road.
I thought it was a very competitively priced campsite. The shower and toilet facilities were adequate, they more than met our needs and were free unlike some other sites. As stated in other reviews, they did sometimes lose water pressure when all 3 were in use but they were still OK. The shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. The site is also only a 5 minute drive outside of Llangollen which has plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

Just returned from a two night stay over the bank holiday. This site enjoys a beautiful situation at the foot of the Horse Shoe pass with impressive views in all directions. Having the ruins of the abbey on site only adds to the drama of the location, although should you wish a closer inspection a fee is required as it is not part of the camp site but is in care of Cadw.
As we requested a hook up we ended up cheek and jowl in a plot near the toilet block-which is a porta cabin style box clad with tongue and groove to blend in better.
The main gripe I have was being stuck next to three groups who chatted long and loud into the night and onto into the the next morning-3 am in fact before they shut up!
The toilet block is bit of let down-a push button in the shower which delivered tepid water at a trickle isn't really good enough for a site of this size. Thousands have been spent on other areas of the business-holiday flats shop sophisticated cctv etc so why not spend a little more on the basics-like hot water?
As mentioned by a previous reviewer the cold water tap was next to the chemical disposal point-a big no no in my book. The washing up sinks (2) had only cold taps which involved having to lug a kettle of hot water to the sinks to wash up the greasy pots; I found it easier to wash up out side the tent in the end.
I appreciate its not the most expensive site to stay on ( £ 22 for 2 with hook up for 2 nights) but feel the owners have compromised on the basics.

We visited this site last year and more recently visited it last week. We found the facilities to be functional, not exactly plush but adequate. In a previous review someone mentioned it was perfect for people who like to "rough it" and I couldn't agree with that more. The road running along side the camp field can be noisy but if you don't mind hearing quiet traffic it's fine. Good points: The owner/site manager is very friendly and accomodating. The site is dog friendly (if you like dogs) The Abbey is pretty (if you like that kind of thing) Bad points: Can be noisy at night with drunken people (not us.hic) Kids play by the river (if you don't like kids camp away from it!)

What can I say? Carling don't make campsites, if they did this would be the best campsite in the world.Probably.
Can't understand other reviews concerning facilities and noise. It was our second time camping here and it has everything and nothing, that is what camping is all about. I would recommend this camping site to Jesus himself only I haven't met him personally.
The valley is outstandingly beautiful in it's views. The abbey gives it a sense of history and has withstood numerous attacks, I'm sure a few teenage kids won't endanger it any further.
Our congratulations to the keepers of this fine campsite. My children will not allow me to go anywhere else.See you soon.

We arrived on the Saturday of August Bank Holiday weekend without booking and they were able to fit us in, directing us to a field with plenty of space & cow pats! We were close to the newer toilet blocks which were closed from 8.30pm til 7am! This meant we had to use the older toilet block at night which seemed to be the local hangout for the camp teenagers! There was a man trying to keep both toilet blocks clean but as it was a rather wet weekend and people were putting their filthy trainers on the sink whilst waiting for a shower he was fighting a loosing battle! There were only 3 showers in the new block and they worked fine until someone went into one of the other showers then the water trickled out! I had trouble showering my 3 year old also as the cubicles were so small but he was not strong enough to hold the shower on himself. There was also no hot water for washing up. The only fresh water tap was next to the toilet disposal which we thought was not very hygenic.
I understand that we were there at one of the most busy weekends and other peoples actions have nothing to do with the owners-like the crowd of teenagers who woke us up at 2am shouting while their parents jeered them on! But we had to read and sign a list of rules on arrival so think these rules should have been adhered to,
They outlook of this sight was lovely with the abbey ruins in the background and a 25 minute walk along the canal took you to the town.

I have stayed there several times over the last couple of years and have enjoyed a peaceful site which is very attractive with the ruined abbey in the middle of it which is very majestic looking when the sun is setting. The local pub is very friendly, but take a torch no lights on the way home.
They have new shower/toilet facilities this year on site for the campers in tents so it has improved greatly and the meat there in the shop is local and very tasty. There is a play area for the children but they seem to love the little stream that runs at the bottom of the site ideal for paddling and jumping in and near to the tents so you can keep an eye on your children. The wildlife and birds are abundant and the surrounding area is great for walking and climbing. They have a separate caravan park so not mixed with the tents, and electrical hook ups although we don't use them as the countryside round there is too wonderful to miss at any time of the day or night.

We thought this would be a nice site to camp on.The first night was very enjoyable as was the next day, visited the local country fair in the next field. Then it all started to go downhill at 11:30pm. Lots of shouting in lane behind the field and then by the camping electric hook up field. This was definitely not the family site that we where lead to believe.

The field was nice and very cheap. The picturesque view of the abbey was lovely and also has a nice stream running by. The people were very nice but the facilities could do with being a bit better. Cold water in the showers and they wasn't very clean, hair in the bottom of the showers and 1 toilet wasn't working. There was a rubbish skip by the toilets and it was overflowing when we got there on the friday and even worse when we left on the monday. Could do with being emptied more regular and could do with a bit more care and attention.
I will visit again hope its better next time. If it was better I would go there all the time.

Went back again for a weekend, can't fault it at all. Me and my girlfriend are 20 and 21 and had plenty to do. Great stream and everything is there you need. Showers are fine and cheap enough at only £18 for both of us for 2 nights. All in all excellent highly reccomended looking to go back this weekend.
