July 2004 This site is on a working farm but that did not disturb us too much. The site is split into two fields, one for caravans and the other for tents, trailer tents and motorhomes. Both fields had some electric hook-ups.
On the caravan field there are plenty of statics that circle the perimeter but there is a huge open grassy area in the middle for the kids to ride their bikes, play football etc.
There is a small play park on site that is suitable for most ages and there is a stream which runs alongside the caravan, not deep so happy for my youngest to play by it and there were a couple of rope swings which went down an absolute storm.
The faclities on the caravan field were old but everything worked well and did the job it was supposed to. Showers, toilets etc all ok, not the newest I will add but adequate. The facilities on the tent field, although I didn't go in them, were a porta-cabin!
The tent field sits alongside the stream so if you can live without the hookup then these would be a great spot to camp. I only walked through this field but it did look nice and if I come again will definately be in the campervan or the tent.
The main feature of the site is the ruined Abbey on the grounds, very cheap for the four of us to get into and well presented. The Abbey is light up at night and can be quite spooky, camp in the tent field for best views of the Abbey.
There is a shop on site selling the basics plus there is a lovely pub about a five minute walk up the road offering good home-cooked meals at a pretty reasonable price and child friemdly too.
The local town is down the road about a mile of so that you can get money, horse drawn canal trips, extra shopping etc.
All in all a great site with good security, CCTV on site watching you! and if I were to come back to the area I would definately not take the caravan again but take the campervan or tent and enjoy the joys of the tent field.

June bank holiday weekend 2004 We camped here, 3 adults and 5 kids aged from 1 -12 - it was a beautiful location with a fantastic shallow stream full of minnows that the kids fished for - the stream was a fence away from the tents so the 1 yr old was safe and we could watch the others play.
It was our first time as a family and I agree with the last review - the toilets were basic on the tent field - the ones in the caravan field were OK, but not brilliant, at least sort of clean. They've put a portacabin shower block in tent field which has luke warm water but otherwise fine.
It was absolutely packed so we had a lot of noise at night too - most people went home on Monday and Monday night was so quiet it was lovely.
It was a lovely location and great for the kids but maybe best for midweek or quiet weekends, avoid at bank holidays!
Upgrading the tent field toilets would make a huge difference.

March 2004 This site appears to have it all, mountains, streams good pubs nearby and the old abbey......... Unfortunately, the toilets and showers (not much more than a shed,) were cold and filthy, the bins in there overflowing with rubbish. The only place to put it seemed to be in an open skip in the driveway which was also full to brimming. To be fair they did empty this while we were there and clean the loos but they were not up to scratch. Everywhere looked littered and unkept. There was no lighting around the site and a trench was dug accross the only solid road to our caravan and there it stayed for the length of our stay, (the grass being water-logged, they did tow us off with the tractor.) In my opinion this is a working farm first and a caravan/camping site second (not the impression given on the web site). I found the charges were a lot for this time of year and thought if they were up and running for visitors, standards should have been better.
If you want to be next to nature and don't mind roughing it then this is the place to be but if you expect a certain standard I would give it a miss.

August 2001 Location Set in a slight valley off the main road which runs from the village upto the horse shoe pass. The camping field is next to the old abbey monestry and has a stream running alongside the field which is shallow enough to paddle in!! The village is about 2 miles away and is easily reached via the canal paths. A truly beautiful location!!
Facilities There are toilets and a shower block in the camping field with sinks and water taps etc. There is also electric hook up points for the larger tents (in my experience, these need to be booked early during peak weeks!!) There is also a farm shop which sells the essentials. The site is also within easy reach of both the abbey pub and the chainbridge hotel, which both have a nice bar and restaurant.
My opinion I love this site!! It is set in the most lovely suroundings!! I have stayed many times over the years with groups of friends and my partner and have found it to be perfect for our needs. The toilets and shower facilities are very basic so dont expect the ritz, but thats what camping is all about!! I would (and have!!) recommended the abbey camp site to anyone looking for peace and quiet!!

July 2003 We pitched our tent for a couple of nights over the weekend. The site is in a beautiful location and offers some magnificent views and pleasant walks. Llangollen town centre can be reached by walking along a very peaceful canal for about 2 miles.
The facilities are clean, although only cold water is available in the tenting field's block. However, there are hot showers in the block located 3 or 4 minutes away in the caravan field.
There are some excellent meals available in the nearby pub which is about 10 minutes walk up the road. It can get quite busy though, so don't expect 'fast food' - especially if there is a coach party in!
Overall, we found Abbey Farm to be a great place to camp, but the weekend was marred slightly by one or two late night / early morning (5:00am!) revellers.
