At first sight this site appears sheltered by trees and surrounding hills. Be warned, it isn't! The wind can be a swine and off season with no other units to shelter you prepare for a good buffeting if the wind gets up.
That said the site is pretty level and sits in the grounds of a ruined monastery so the views are great and the river (shallow) is ideal for kids young and old.
The facilities were adequate for the dozen or so units present in the 5 days we were there but in peak season they will be seriously overcrowded. They weren't cleaned in the 5 days we were there. The camp shop is not a camp shop so much as a farm shop but there is a good camping shop in the town if you've forgotten any camping related items.
The bacon and sausage in the shop is very good however.
The town is a short 20-30 minute walk away and flat, nice to walk by the canal when you can find it (worth seeking out) easier to find the route walking back from town rather than trying to find the canal from the campsite.
Had a great stay and would certainly go back

We stayed overnight on a Saturday and the campsite was full. It was lucky we had booked.
The site is great for groups as you could pitch up anywhere. Even though it had been raining heavily for a few days prior to the visit, the ground was very dry. The ground was quite hard and as I didn't have a mallet, I bent a number of pegs pushing them in with my foot.
The site is well located with a 30 minute or so leisurely walk into Llangollen (5-10 minutes on the road and then 20 minutes on the footpath along the canal where we saw a horse drawn canal boat.
Behind the site where the Pods are located, there is a path that you can take which takes you up to the top of the hill which overlooks the site and is approximately an hours walk.
Toilets and showers were not great but adequate. Needed cleaning more often.
Site is good for groups and families and plenty of room between pitches.
Price was relatively cheap for the 2 of us in a 4 man tent as they charged per person plus vehicle.
Would definitely visit again and do the walks up the hills.

Stayed at abbey farm with my family, booked online & rec'd a confirmation & paid on arrival. Nice welcome from the staff who allowed us to choose a pitch where we liked, the office checked the cctv & advised us where was available before we drove down to the field.
We pitched by the stream close to the camping pods & found that it was a great spot, easy accessible for the toilets & showers and quite enough to enjoy the surroundings -
Toilets & showers were adequate, although could be updated and cleaned more regular, pot wash was basic and became flooded at one point but this soon got sorted.
Great for the kids, climbing and paddling in the stream, there are rope swings and lots of outdoor exploring to be done.
Site is strict on noise after 10pm which is good and they have security patrolling & cctv -
The site is peaceful at night & we all enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere -
Site has a shop & a butchers also a cafe ( did not use)
would certainly use this site again

Spent two nights at this campsite, it is in a very pleasant location. There is a very friendly pub about 200 yards along the main road, cannot recommend the food because we did not eat there.
The mens toilets were unpleasant, the floors were constantly wet because the toilets leaked every time they were flushed. The showers had old and tatty shower curtains which allowed water to flood the toilet floor.
I tried to use the shop on site. I arrived at the shop at 9. 15am, which was due to be open at 9. 00am, but it was closed. So I waited around 15 minutes, nobody turned up, so I went back to reception and was told the owner would be there in about half an hour.

I stayed at this campsite during a trip through Wales last summer. I'd agree with the comments about the toilets/showers; they were truly awful however we couldn't complain too much as despite trying to pay at reception on 5 different occasions we ended up staying for free as there was never anyone there to pay! Great! The site was in a lovely location with the Abbey and river close by and we found a lovely flat spot to camp up near a tree. Site was really quiet and peaceful. Will be returning next summer!

Recently spent 4 nights camping at Abbey Farm Llangollen and Valle Crucis Abbey is a fantastic view to pitch a tent.
Toilet & shower facilities are adequate, clean and well maintained if somewhat oversubscribed during busy periods.
Plenty to do for kids with a modest park situated by the river and handy little shop for those last minute items (recommend the home produced sausages).
There is limited provision for touring caravans and the usual electrical hook up points. The only thing that spoiled our visit was the staff, at times they were standoffish. A smile doesn’t cost anything.
Well worth a visit if you can get onto the site but would recommend booking online or via telephone
The camp site is well situated just outside the town of historic town of Llangollen with great attraction such as the steam railway, motor museum, miniature golf, parks and of course the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. In addition there are some great shops, excellent places to eat, convenience stores and Banks close by.
A few miles from Llangollen is The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct at Trevor which is now recognized as a World Heritage site and well worth a visit. If you enjoy horse drawn or motor driven canal boats the Aqueduct is a must and stands 127 feet above the River Dee with fantastic views for miles around, however not recommended if you don’t like heights.

This is a nice large site with very friendly staff in a great location. I also found it very cheap - £5 a night for a single person backpacking in a tent is a steal for such a site.
I was backpacking and somehow managed to forget my spork that I normally use for cutlery. I was at a loss for how I was going to eat my evening meal but when I mentioned this to the receptionist she opened up the cafe that is on site and handed me one of their spoons, telling me not to worry about returning it!
Right in the centre of the site is Valley Crucis Abbey which looked like it was worth a look, but unfortunately I wasn't able to wait for it to open. There are lots of walking opportunities nearby as the site is close to parts of both Offa's Dyke Path and the Clwydian Way along with many smaller walks. Llangollen is only 30 minutes walk down the road and has a steam railway, plenty of shops and horse drawn canal boats to name some of its major attractions.
I think the only problem might have been that the toilet/shower block seemed a little small considering the size of the site but that's a minor quibble and would not stop me recommending the site to others.

We have just got back from a lovely weekend break. The location of this campsite is fantastic. It's wonderful to open your tent in the morning and see the ruins of the picturesque Valle Crucis Abbey right on your doorstep! The abbey is well worth a visit for the small fee of £2. 80 per visit which helps support historic sites like this in Wales.
Short drive to Llangollen town with many activities, food, steam railway, horse-drawn barges and it's definitely worth the steep climb to the ruins of Dinas Bran Castle set up high on a hill-top. You have breathtaking 360 degree views out all over the surrounding area.
Abbey Farm campsite is very family orientated. As a result you do get a lot of noisy children having fun also many school/scouts etc groups.
The washing block was small for the size of the campsite and there were queues for toilet, shower and wash basins. There were only three showers and three toilets in each male and female wash rooms. The drains were blocked in the men's showers and the floor was very wet and dirty. The showers operated on a push button which you had to keep pushing to turn it on. The pressure wasn't great if the shower next door was being used and the temperature fluctuated.
We think the site would be best visited during off-peak periods/mid-week trips when there are less campers staying.

Just got back from this amazing site, very quiet and got gorgeous views. I would definitely recommend to others and will be visiting again, wardens are lovely and always checking if everything is ok.
I had access to the disabled toilet, it was kept very clean and plenty of space for wheelchair access, I'm not in a wheelchair but found it lovely to be able to get changed etc. Only problem is there is NO shower and hair dryer in there as of yet, but I was told that there is hopefully going to be one fitted in the future. They do give you, your own key so you can go in as you please.
There are some fantastic views and is a stream running through the camp site, where most of the children play and have a lot of FUN.
The town is in driving distance and has many things you can do, there are plenty of pubs, cafe's and places to eat, and also plenty of cash points and banks available.
There are plenty of photo opportunities, so make sure you take your CAMERA!

Would I go again - yes.
This is a good site and with a little work could be a great site.
Areas for improvement:
A. Too much litter around the site in hedge bottoms etc B. No re-cycling facilities (I had to take my paper, glass etc home) C. The waste skip was sat in the middle of the camping field (very convenient, but not pleasant to look at)
Basically I think their waste management needs sorting out.
Strengths:
A. Amazing location & views B. Friendly reception staff always willing to help C. Access controlled by barrier keeping the car movements to a minimum D. Plenty of space and a stream for kids to play in E. Good access to 'things to do' like walking and cycling. F. Plenty of choice of pitches (basically pitch where you like if you are not having electric) G. Nice simple set of rules concerning dogs on leads, quiet time, driving on site etc (not always obeyed unfortunately, particularly by a couple of dog owners)
