Wonderful location with built in historic Abbey and surrounded by fantastic scenery. Facilities included a great butchers and supermarket. It even has a bar (not he annoying club house sort) and pub style restaurant with very good food and local draft Wrexham lager - made my day!
Great camping fields and friendly campers.
Reluctantly our only criticism, maybe I should call it area for improvement is the toilet / shower facilities. These need an upgrade. Shower was hit and miss for water and loos could have been cleaner. Please please owners take note. You've a gem - but it needs a a polish! Hope it's improved for 2015 season.

What a stunning place to camp. Just spent two nights at this beautiful campsite, site was very clean stunning views, can't wait to go back the shop on site is well stocked didn't use the bar or cafe but the food did look lush and I will try it out on our next visit!
Toilets on site are old but clean stocked with loo roll hand soap and paper towels, lady's showers were hot small but did the job however the men's showers were cold and again small. The park and river were a great hit with the kids.
Can't wait to go back.

Just got back after staying the weekend with family, very basic site, toilets were a bit dirty and the showers were very basic but that didn't ruin our stay, pitched on a lovely big field, weather was boiling hot and was no shelter from the sun as where we pitched was a sun trapped! overall had a fantastic stay and prices were pretty cheap, kids enjoyed them selves as there was a park and they enjoyed a paddle in the river where there was a few rope swings, hoping to come back with the family in a few weeks

After having read reviews was worried that when booking via email I was told I could pay in full on arrival and no need for a deposit. My fears were unfounded, arrived to find very friendly staff that knew we were due. Paid the £10 deposit for our barrier card and it didn't work, but was soon replaced and sorted out.
The staff we meet over the weekend where helpful and very cheerful and friendly.
We were told that the big field to the right of the drive had more room and was our best bet, and that was correct, but all the spaces where near the main road, although the traffic noise wasn't to bad at night. The two other fields have electric hook up with the smallest field being home to the camping pods.
Toilet block consisted of three cubicles and three showers, but was kept clean and well stocked with toilet roll. My only small gripe would be that only two sinks available for washing up meant there was often a que, so ended up putting the kettle on and doing it next to the tent, not a big issue really.
The on site shop and butchers had some interesting deli supplies and made finding a bite to eat an adventure, my kids had never had pate before.
The play area near the river was a big hit although not used by my two as we went out and about.
There is a pub within walking distance, handy for a pint or two, food was ok but very expensive.
The site is very handy for visiting Llangollen, the long stay car park on the road into the town is only £3. 50 for the day, and only a short walk. Would have walked the mile and a half but there are no pavements so didn't fancy it with the kids and dog.
Llangollen had plenty of choice for eating and we found most places happy to allow our border terrier in if she sat under the table. Also the steam train is a great experience as well as the horse drawn narrow boat on the canal.
I would stay here again as a base for exploring the area especially at this time of year, when my two got invited to feed the lambs before we left this morning.

Booked in over the phone but reception had no record of the booking, luckily they had spaces. Was able to chose any vacant pitch. The site is in a beautiful location right next to Valle Crucis Abbey, stunning backdrop, three fields with a mix of statics, tourers, camping and pods. Flat hardstandings, easy to pitch up. Kids loved the playground down by the river (swings and rope/tyre swings) they could have stayed there messing about in the river all afternoon if it wasn't for the rain! This is a working farm, little bit untidy and the toilets by the tourers had no lights working so we all had to walk to the camping field in pitch black (no lighting around site at night either) to use those instead which was annoying! Toilets/showers basic but clean. Overall a great base for exploring Llangollen just make sure you take a torch to the toilets!

Had mixed feelings about coming here as I had read the reviews.
When we first arrived my initial thought was oh no what have we done. After a quick look around before checking in we decided to stay and just make the most of it. First impressions was not great.
The campsite setting is gorgeous, a lovely location and within 5 minute drive of Llangollen.
The Abbey is nothing to do with the site and there is a additional charge to visit it, but it adds to the charm and appeal of the site.
The staff are lovely and very helpful and go out of their way to be pleasant and accommodating.
However when first getting here I see large refuse bins, old battered telephone boxes and a very dated toilet block. They make this site upon arrival look like a junk yard. The refuse bins really smell. Further on its does get better and the second lot of toilet blocks are considerably better. They are also in a far better location but still very basic. Depending on which bit your staying on the waste disposal point is a bit of a walk.
I'm not sure if I would stay here again. I felt like I was roughing it a bit. I would like to see bit of a face lift, better toilet and shower facilities. More of them. A site this size should have more. Also refuse bins in more discreet area with lids on. Better water and waste disposal points. Shame really because I think this site could be brilliant.

Beautiful site in wonderful location - the Abbey makes an impressive backdrop and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. Llangollen itself is a great little town with lots for families to do. As a result, I was excited for this trip (which my brother had organised) until I read the reviews below.
It seems obvious that the owners have responded constructively to a lot of the criticisms below and we had a great weekend. Staff were very friendly; the shop was well stocked with tasty cuts from the butchers; the bistro was super. The river and the swings were a big hit with the kids. We were also given a long list of rules, obviously designed to curb some of the behaviour discussed below.
The two main concerns were these: firstly, the facilities were clean enough, but there weren't very many of them and the water pressure in the showers was poor; secondly, despite the long list of rules, CCTV, barrier etc we had two sleepless nights thanks to selfish campers blasting out music (bad dad-rock, including Deacon Blue) and turning in the air blue until the wee, small hours. Unfortunately, I feel the location of Llangollen being so close to two large cities means that the campsite attracts a wide demographic. In fairness, our neighbours were kicked off after the second night, but if the owners are serious about being a family site, they need to find ways to discourage large groups like this and be more robust dealing with antisocial behaviour.
Anyhow, a lovely weekend overall. I'd consider returning to the site in the future, perhaps during a quiet weekend rather than the August Bank Holiday. Certainly, it has bags of potential as a site but some tweaking still needed.

Stayed for 1 night thinking it would be a good stop-over, what a big let down to say the least!
The site is very dirty and the toilets and shower block in a terrible condition, making us only go in for the necessary. Next morning no shower-didn't want to get caught under cold water. The overall look and cleanliness of the whole place was awful. Staff friendly enough but for this site to get at least a 3 star rating there is an awful lot of work to be done. Three very large bins where placed by the toilet block, which where leaking all over the ground and the smell was worst than a sewer. Would definitely not visit this site again. Shame really because it is situated in a lovely part of the country.

This was our first time camping at Abbey Farm, a two night weekend stay with a group of friends and their children (also in tents). Upon arrival the member of staff was very polite, although we were not provided with any information about the site or given any directions to our pitch. Luckily some friends had already pitched up and we managed to find them. The site is in a very beautiful part of Wales and is in a great location for visiting the town of Llangollen and the scenic Horseshoe Pass. Having the Abbey in grounds is lovely and makes it different from other sites we've stayed in. The children loved the play areas and various tree swings located around the site and although we didn't use the shop or cafe, both looked great.
The only negative point I have about Abbey Farm, apart from what felt like a very unorganised arrival and pitching process (no allocated pitches) is that the shower block is very basic and definitely not as clean as other sites we've stayed on. Having said that, it hasn't put us off and we will be visiting again!

Just came back from Abbey Farm Caravan Park, and I can honestly say I had a very good time. I read the reviews before I went and was a little put off to say the least, but our travel companions had booked for us so we went with a 'lets see' attitude. What a pleasant surprise!
The site is in the most beautiful countryside, with an abbey ruins within the park (there is a nominal fee to gain access to the abbey, which helps pay for its upkeep - its not owned by the campsite).
Check in was efficient and the young lady behind the counter was very helpful. Directions to our pitch were a little vague but, if we were in the wrong spot, nobody moved us. There was a long list of rules provided on check in but, to be quite honest, they were common sense and nothing out of the ordinary.
The toilet/shower block, although in need of a little updating, was clean and serviceable. The café and shop were nice and we had a lovely lunch in the café before we left. Everyone that we met were polite and friendly and we will definitely be going back again.
Whilst out and about in the area, I would definitely recommend a visit to the sun inn at Rhewl, which is a short drive away but well worth the visit. It has just re-opened in April and has some exciting changes planned. Lovely little pub.
