 August 2005
We have just returned from a visit to Broadway House. We were a little apprehensive after reading previous reviews, but took a deep breath and hoped for the best. The staff were helpful, although not overly happy! The pitch was snug, we were unable to get down one side of our TT, without pushing past the bushes, but the length was comfortable for our 7 metre TT with space to put windbreaks in front. There did not seem to be the regulated space between each unit, it was too tight! Each of the electrical posts between our pitches in our row had a permanent light, (not invasive) and water tap!.

There were two shower blocks, I preferred the smaller block as the showers were in cubicles with the dressing area. BAD POINTS, push button operation and no thermostat control!! The water was very hot, most of the time I found it bearable, but only just. I was concerned that people could have been scalded.

My three boys loved the park, and my two eldest really enjoyed the BMX track, to hire the bikes for an hour was £3 each. The swimming pool was clean and compact, we went once, and although the weather was good for us they did not ask to go again. I thought the clubhouse was good, with areas for adults and a small indoor play area for young children, with windows in so you could see what they were up to. The restaurant prices seemed reasonable although we did not get round to eating in there.

We had a lovely couple of days in Cheddar Gorge, which was only 5 minutes down the road. We also managed to visit Longleat a couple of times and we went to Weston Super Mare beach a couple of times. We had a very busy, but enjoyable holiday and would possibly consider returning, although I am not convinced that I would return to Broadway House. My husband said the pitch fee was reasonable as we had a 16 amp electric supply, we paid £32 per night (3 adults and 3 children) electric hook up was the only extra we had.

we have just returned from a visit at Broadway park and we thought the location was very good. It was really easy to get into cheddar and we really enjoyed our visit to the gorge and caves. The children really enjoyed the park and the bmx track. The seperate bar area for adults only is a good idea in the club house, and was very comfortable, but the other seating areas where very uncomfortable and a bit tacky.

We found the pitch sises here very good. Reception was mayhem all of the time and we did get tired of waiting for half hour every time we wanted something eg -bmx hire

In all the years we have been camping (thirty odd) we have never encountered such rude and unco-operative service as we received from this owner and some staff. Each trip to the shop/reception elicited a whinge about something. We even got tantamount to a telling off for not having been issued with an entrance barrier receipt on arrival !

On the plus side we found the location great, the facilites clean, large well-stocked shop (selling both groceries and camping equipment) good washing up areas etc. The pitches were a tad snug but quite private and in good condition. Excellent activites for children.

We have visited this site often over the years. Great for visiting Cheddar gorge & caves.
Its beautifully situated, with scenic views and steep woodland walks (also a fenced off dog walking field with its own lamppost!). For the energetic there are sporting activities available such as abseiling, climbing, canoeing, archery etc.
Facilities are excellent, good pitches most with hedges around them, and showers and toilets kept spotless by the live in 24hr cleaners.
This site is excellent for young people, the adventure playground is great and has bbq's for family use. They have a skateboard ramp, bike hire and an amazing BMX track.
The clubhouse is fun, games and disco's, keeps younger ones entertained, and there is a seperate quiet bar room for adults only.
This site is a hive of activity, and often noisy during the day, but it is kept quiet at night.
Bad points
When their really busy you can end up a long way from the toilets. The outdoor pool is nice but the strict rules and rudeness of staff is off-putting.
The café food is good and very reasonably priced, but waiting times are slow, be prepared to wait an hour or so after ordering. There are some good food outlets in Cheddar Gorge.
Oh and be warned, the booking in and shop staff are not always very people friendly.

First visited this site when children were small and we had campervan. 20years ago! Wife and I returned this year with a tent on a pilgrimage. Lovely site, not one moan although maybe tad expensive. On site shop and staff really good....perhaps you reap what you sow? Roll on summer

Just returned from this site. Found the toilet and shower facilities to be excellent with plenty of them. Never had to queue once and they were always clean.

Not really our type of site, but it was ok. Bar / Club on site which as you can imagine attracted all the teenagers etc., so it could get quite rowdy down there.

Some of the pitches are very small and we could not fit our Diablo 600 on the first one we were allocated so we had to move to another.

Some nice nature walks to go on - we only did one and that was supposed to be for Pixies - I was shattered.

Lots of kids on this site, flying round on bikes and scooters. Pool was freezing - but I could imagine it to be lovely on a hot day.

Probably wouldn't visit again - but if you like a camp with lots going on in it this is the place for you.

Best part of holiday was hearing an owl at 4 am on two mornings - first time ever.

My husband, out two teenage children and myself have just returned from a three week camping holiday in Devon and Somerset. We stayed two nights in this campsite but we won't be returning here again unfortunatly.

As we were in a tent and had not booked, we were sent to the causal area. Very close to the main road and the volume of traffic was heavy, which made sleeping at night a noisy affair. There wasn't much room between tents and the toilet block was a fair walk away. Although the site has plenty of amenities for families there was by far too many rules (eg. no unaccompanied children under the age of 14 allowed in pool area and must always show pass).

Clubhouse was busy but more like a butlins night out.

A busy site with plenty to do but rather too commercialized for me. Can be a bit noisy (depends where you pitch). Perhaps its a bit quieter out of season. Pitches vary considerably in size, so let them know clearly what your requirements are - some pitches are very small.

Toilets are adequate but with some shower overflow on the toilet block floor. The site do their best to keep it clean, but with unsupervised children allowed in the toilet block, cleanliness is unreliable. No seperate wash cubicles in the mens (don't know about ladies!).

I think the site is rather expensive. We only had a short time here. A caravan + gazebo (no awning) + electric, for 2 adults and 1 child (age 6) = £21.50. One night we had 2 extra adults - that night cost £30.50

Some tight bends if you have a large van, and if other cars are parked slightly off pitch.

I could see it would suit some very well, but generally we were not that keen. David

Been to this site before in a tent, this was our first time with the campervan and 2 small children. If you are looking for a site with just about everything to make camping life easy, this is it. A free outdoor swimming pool, 2 good play areas for children, a pub with entertainment (mouse racing on a Monday), a takeaway, good size shop, activities etc etc etc.

If you are looking to 'get away from it all', have a quiet time, bird watching or whatever, and like roughing it a bit, this may not be the site for you. It is a bit like a holiday camp, there are LOADS of children running about, and it's quite noisy. Older children will have a brilliant time if they can be left to roam around unsupervised, there are plenty of walks and places to cycle. For very little ones, there isn't a swing suitable for them, and the pool can be crowded.

Good points: Plenty to do on site, not everything costs money - pool, pixie walk, just walking in the woods, cycling, looking at the animals, and a nearby reservoir to walk/cycle round. Everything is here, the toilets and showers are clean, plenty of taps, hot water to wash up. The sites with electricity have hedges around for privacy, seemed big enough to me. They now do a 'passport' system if you book in advance (phone is far quicker) which means you can arrive after midnight of your first day, and can go onto your pitch in the morning if its free (instead of waiting till midday).

Bad points: Staff can be grumpy..don't know why. Takeaway is reasonable prices but is usual burger n' chips, lasagne n'chips, shepherd's pie n'chips and the wait was 70 minutes when I went..The shop seems very expensive, and it's almost impossible to get fresh fruit and veg (try budgens in Cheddar). They also sell many toy guns and knives, not everyone's cup of tea, but they have got rid of their 'amusement' arcade (oh I hate them so much...).

Overall I think good value, but definately for families. Shop at Budgens and get your takeaway from the pizza place advertised in the information centre. Oh, and visiting Cheddar gorge is very expensive, but Longleat is a really good day out.

Large site, with excellent facilities for all the family.

Clean toilets and hot showers. Excellent adventure play area and bmx/skateboard areas.

Lovely walks in woods and really clean swimming pool.

If going in a tent - pay extra for electric hook up pitch - pitches are nicely boardered by hedges - if don't have elec hook up pitch, then field near entrance would be very noisy by the main road.
