What a gem of a site. We went with 3 kids and they loved it. The facilities are basic as already explained in earlier reviews. The owner is very laid back and very helpful. If you need anything he can and will provide it.He even provided electric hook up, although these are limited,so book in advance. The approach to the site proved a little tricky, but when we entered the site our first impressions were "wow". We would recommend this site to anyone, unfortunately we have bought a new caravan that's much to big to take to this site. We will use a tent on our next visit. A+++++++++++++++++++

Just had an amazing weekend here, a few reviews said the toilets were not up to scratch but we found they were fine for 1 nights camping. The owner was a character and very helpful. The walk into Malham near the waterfall was fantastic, the pubs friendly, although slightly further than a mile but a great walk and my children didn't moan one bit. The walk up to the waterfall on the campsite was out of this world, my 8 year old daughter named it angel falls as it was so beautiful, we saw toads and rabbits on the way back. The weather let us down a bit but we still had our BBQ and an amazing time and will be going back here soon.

Just got back from a fantastic week camping in beautiful hot weather. We thought the location was amazing and the facilities were adequate for our needs - prefect for those that like a basic campsite without all the laid on entertainment etc.
Malham is a about 20 minutes walk away along Janet's Foss (don't go the road way!) - good after pub, end of day walk, particularly if like us you have a dog. Campsite owner was really helpful and keeps an eye on things. Only one bad thing to say and that was the unthoughtful behaviour of an DofE group leader who let his group of young people camp all around our tent when the whole of the rest of the campsite was free (mid week) - I'm sure the guy wouldn't have wanted it if on his holiday! Check with campsite owner - if and where they will be camping before you pitch!

Beautiful position. Nice steady walk into Malham for a great selection of beers. We went when the dinosaur hunt was on so the kids loved it. Site facilities remind me of my younger camping days like when camping really was camping but for 3 nights it was suffice. The scenery really is breathtaking and the local walks are magnificent. Site owner/keeper is a great conscientious guy. We will definitely visit again. Might even try the shower next time.

Just returned from spending Easter Bank Holidays at Gordale and what a marvellous site it is. What everyone else has said about the facilities are correct, they are very basic but this did not detract at all from an excellent weekends camping. The site has to be one of the most awe-inspiring sites to be found in Yorkshire. Gordale Scar seems to have come straight out of Lord Of The Rings, it's so dramatic. All the walks you can take from the site are marvellous, especially the walk that starts by climbing up the waterfall, exhilarating. Do remember to take your food as there is none to bought at nearby Malham, although the 7 mile drive into Settle is worth it. A fantastic site which I highly recommend. It was £12 a night for tent, two adults, two kids and car.

September 2005 This was my first experience of camping and it won't be my last - in fact we are going back to the same campsite this weekend! It was very child friendly with a lovely little stream that our daughter splashed around in for ages.
I don't agree with peoples comments about the toilets and shower facilities, you are staying on a farm and part of camping is to rough it a bit. The toilets are well lit up so midnight dashes are easy!
Waking up to find a sheep looking through the tent at us added to the fun of the camping trip also!
The location is beautiful as the site is 5 minutes away from Gordale Scar and not very far away from Malham which has a lovely pub for Summer evenings!
Malcolm polices the site very well and is very helpful. We left feeling very relaxed and looking forward to our next visit!

August 2005 Our second visit to this campsite. The location is one of the best in the country, you will not find a better view when opening up the tent door in the morning. The downside to this is the huge mound of rubbish that Malcolm appears to be hoarding right next door to the toilet block, which results in flies and more flies. The facilities are very basic and not the cleanest, previous reviewers have commented that this is made up for by the location, however I tend to disagree and would prefer to pay £2 more for cleaner facilities. The site does tend to attract groups of young people, many of whom seem to think they have a free rein when it comes to noise late at night, this has been our experience on both occasions. Site is worth visiting at least once for the location, you can then make your own mind up regarding the facilities.

August 2005 I went to this site in a group (couples & singles in their mid / late 20s) & we all had a great weekend. The site was good with few slopes but the facilities were pretty basic. Another couple of showers would've been better (less queue time) & the toilets were ok (fairly clean & toilet-roll regularly replaced), minus flies during the day & the smell. The surrounding area was v. scenic & there were loads of walks, etc. Climbing the waterfall was pretty scary but definitely worth the effort & I'd recommend a visit to Janet's Foss too (a hidden place straight out of 'The Goonies') as the cave & bats were pretty amazing at midnight. Although a mini-trek to Malham, the pub in the centre of the village was friendly & ideal as it had a large grassy area out-front for drinking in the sun. Malcolm didn't like much noise after about 10, & patrolled the site quite sternly, with strict restrictions at 12 (in bed & silent). However, he did provide BBQ stands, which saved room in cars for tents, etc. Although we had a good weekend & would probably go back, I'd say that the site is more suited to families & couples than groups.

July 2005 First time camping for about 15 years, and couldn't have picked a nicer site!
The scenery on this site is stunning, we were camped just next to the stream that runs through it, and awoke to find that the local sheep had eaten the bread that we must have left poking out of the tent (well I'm hoping it was sheep!!?)
Malcolm, the campsite owner, is a little eccentric, but friendly. The friends we'd gone with thought the tent they'd borrowed didn't have any tent pegs (rather essential when putting a tent up) and luckily Malcolm didn't mind lending them some.
He also tries to keep familes towards one end of the campsite, and couples and groups of adults away from families etc, which seems an excellent idea, so there aren't any problems with parents complaining if you stay up late, and avoids kids waking you up early if you've overdone it a little the night before!!
There has been some negative mention of the toilet and shower facilities, and although I can see what people mean, it should be noted that this campsite seems to be basically on a farm, and although very basic, I think they added to to charm of the place. Camping should be about roughing it a bit, and if I wanted 5 star facilities I'd stay in a hotel!!
There's some stunning scenery on and around the campsite, and Gorsdale Scar is a few minutes walk away.
Also, check out the walk through Janets Fosse. I'd recommend walking into Malham via the road (brace yourself for the initial steep hill!) and then walk back through the fields and woods towards the waterfall. It's a magical place, and seemed very quiet despite it being a Saturday afternoon.
Make sure you take plenty of food though, unless your planning on eating out at the local pub, or driving further afield. Malham seems to only have 4 outdoor pursuits type shops, a couple of pubs, and a very small shop, that foodwise seemed to only sell sweets and crisps.
Overall a fantastic place to stay, very cheap, (worked out at £4 a night each for 4 of us with two tents and a car) and magnificent scenery. If you want to see what it looks like if you type 'UK 360' into google, click on the first result, Gorsdale scar should be 6th down on the first list, then go to Picture 9. for a fantastic 360 degree view of the campsite
Would recommend it to anyone, and can't wait to go again!!

July 2005 I agree that the site is lovely, as far a scenery is concerned ... BUT !!
The toilet facilities are very poor. Small and dirty is all I can say. It's a pity the owner couldn't spend a few bucks on a new toilet. Even he had to charge £2 more per night to cover this work ... I'm sure nobody would mind.
No doubt walkers would like a good shower after all that climbing ... what is there now is anything but inviting.
The road there is also a little narrow, but as long as you are careful there should be no problem.
Enjoy your stay
